If I'm in a bar or brew pub, I usually already know what I'm going to drink before walking in the door; if their tap list sucks, I will be somewhere else. At least that's one good thing technology/social networking is good for.

If I am confronted with a number of unknown offerings, I've gotten to the point where I'll get something I know is decent, or is acceptable and cheap, rather than go out on a limb for something I have no idea about. Being a frequenter of this site, I have a very good idea of what words (breweries, specific beers) are likely to be indicative of a good beer. I like exploring new beers and all of that, but at a bar, when I will be spending $5 on a pint of unknown beer, I'd rather get something where I know what I'm getting, rather than some random crap that has a pretty good chance of not being very good.

All that said, I usually don't encounter this situation. I go to places that serve good stuff.

    Local beer I know
New release from a local brewery
    Beer I've never heard of
This is how I go but I usually only gotoo two local bars and both have their tap list online so I know what I'm getting into

Bartender cuts you off, because there's no way you're serious.

I Go with a standard to sip on while decisions are contemplated and finally made. That standard really depends on where I'm at.

Whatever's on the tap list that I haven't had. If I've had everything, bartender's choice.

I tend to "tick" at home and drink what I know at the bar, unless its something I've wanted to try. If i'm spending $7 on a beer, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Bottles at home it's fun to get a variety and try some new brews

Fuck it, I'll have a Pliny - if no Pliny on hand, I'll settle for a Racer 5.

I don't have a regular. Usually it's picking the one in a tap lineup that's least disappointing. Often here in the southeast it means a Sweetwater 420. It's never what I want, but it's always better than the macro and fake macro offerings and I can be basically content with it for a session. Sometimes Yuengling is the only thing between me and the macro macros, and I'm thankful for it.

When I'm at an awesome place with lots of great taps, I want to try ones I've heard of but have never tried. It could be any style or brewery. I don't care about ticks, I just want to explore and try new things.
