I'm getting married in a couple months. I'm having an open bar. I don't know of many people coming that drink "craft" beer. So I'll mostly be getting bud light and pabst. But I feel I should have some higher quality options for those who prefer it.

We're planning for 80-100 people to show, but I assume less than 10 will want any fancy beer. Should I just grab IPAs? Sixer of a few styles? What particular popular beers would you all recommend?

If I went to a wedding and they had something as simple as Guinness and Sierra Nevada pale ale than I would be thrilled.

If I went to a wedding and they had any kind of ipa I would be pretty stoked. I'd saying easy to get ipa like stone, lagunita's, or Sierra Nevada would be good.

Have you already planned your venue? I had a very similar sized wedding and the same issue, I knew a few would want craft beer, but most would go for Bud Light or cocktails. We had our reception at a restaurant, so it was all of their alcohol selection, and they had some local options on tap. If it's only like 10 people you know would want craft beer, maybe just ask them what they'd want.

I would make sure having craft beer would be an option first. My wedding was this past June and I posted on here for some ideas, but the place we had it at only had 2 taps. I had to go with Miller Lite and Yuengling since many of my guests were from NEPA. I did, however, stock the limo up with different IPAs from Tröegs and the little we had left over were taken into the reception with us.

A good craft beer that might appeal even to BMC AAL aficionados would be Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier. It's great and shouldn't be offensive to BMC fans.

I usually recommend something like Fat Tire or Bells Amber, maybe Guinness, or a local (good) Pale Ale...mazel tov on the nuptials!

Bell's Wedding Ale, of course! Just kidding, might be hard to get. Although, I once attended a wedding that had a keg of it and it was wonderful. You're in MI, just get some Founders Solid Gold, even non-craft people can enjoy that.

See if you can get a keg of SNPA

If you're footing the bill, buy whatever you want. If someone complains, tell them that they don't need to drink the free beer/booze that you're providing and are welcome to go out and buy their own.

As a direct response, a nice craft helles lager would be awesome and very inclusive.

I would get some local stuff in a keg, roll with something middle of the road like a pale ale or lager style beer to appeal to more of the non-craft people. This way you offer something other than Bud and its still not over the top of a style that people will try it. Overall I would not worry, people always have a blast at weddings and just focus on having a great day for yourselves.
    Cheers and Congrats... :sunglasses:

I'm grateful around here because I'm guaranteed to at least have Spotted cow or Moon Man from New Glarus. I wouldn't be offended though if all they had was BMC stuff. Go with the flow and enjoy the festivities.

First of all congratulations, I wish you both the best. I've been to a number of weddings over the years and my thoughts, as a craft beer drinker, is the wedding is the thing and refreshment details don't really matter. With that large a guest list presumably a dozen or so might like a craft beer and I would accommodate them with the freshest choice available in can or bottle in addition to a couple of taps for Coors Light and Yuengling Traditional.

    First, early Congrats!

Second, if you have 10 craft beer lovers they're guaranteed to like Bell's Two Hearted. In fact, I'd buy double the amount that you think you'll need. You can always fill your fridge with any left-overs.

+1 one for the pro-tip. I almost posted the same thing, but thought it would be more prudent to recommend a lager.

A little pricey at nearly $4 a bottle to mail order, but these'll class things up to the nth degree.

@Mothergoose03 is spot on. I am never disappointed with limited craft options is one of them is Two Hearted.

I'm having a wedding at the brewery I work at, and the only beer being served will be of the craft variety. It should be fun seeing as both my fiances family and my own are for the most part Busch light fans.

I served only craft at my wedding. I figure, with a full open bar including wine and booze, if anyone is that intent on never drinking craft they have tons of other drink options.

If you stick with local stuff that people are familiar with, you might find more craft drinkers than you realize. Craft beer isn't something AAL drinkers are willing to pay extra for, but at a wedding where it all costs the same? Serve what you like.

In 2013 we hade lite, summer shandy and I bought 6 cases of Hopalicious brewed by Ale Asylum. End of the night there was still 5 cases left. So buy something you like, I was drinking hopalicious for a long time. Worked out great. I assume today the hopalicious would move faster.
