And roll of drums please, Newport is on it! Yea Bier One. http://www.wweek.com/bars/beer/2018/03/02/the-10-best-and-most-iconic-beer-bars-in-oregon/
Now if they could just get their website up and running again. It's an interesting top 10 list, and I had a hard time figuring out just what the author's criteria is for making the list. Sound like vibe and personality play a big part, as well as longevity and a good bottle selection. Haven't been to Bier One in some years (though it's hard to imagine not stopping in if one happens to be driving through Newport). Really need to get back out that way to see how the place is doing.
I suspect the article was built more around being catchy than it was a rigorous assessment of beer bars in the state against defined criteria. The editor used content from 5 authors for the 10 spots (including multiple from Martin Cizmar, who left WW months ago, though this could have been a current freelance assignment) to assemble a list of noteworthy beer bars in Oregon that would interest WW's audience. He gave it a headline that makes it easy for each of the bars' social media accounts to share, saying "Hey look, we were included on a prestigious sounding list!" It works; I felt similarly to @mudbug when I saw Broken Top included, which led me to be more interested in the others I haven't visited yet, much like you. I don't want to call it clickbait, because I find the content worthwhile, but it's not on the level of Paste's beer rankings (still imperfect, but at least they have a method and criteria and acknowledge their limitations).
