Chugging Craft Beer: Why?

I'm cool with it. If its good enough to have a laugh and feel better about myself, count me in.

 

Waiting in line for the one-off is a function of FOMO.

Posting a clip of yourself chugging that one-off online is a function of YOLO.

Basically the modern haze bro has a bad acronym problem.

 

Attention...Trolling...Bragging...Narcissism...Machismo...Immaturity...Everything the internet is known for.

I'm on Facebook beer group that has several thousand members and a couple years ago they had a civil war over chug videos. There was a small handful of members who constantly posted videos of them chugging sought after beers. Some people were upset/opposed to the chug videos; some people didn't care; some people thought it was fun/funny; some people just liked to watch the bickering that always ensued.* In the videos and ensuing comments the chuggers usually egged on the fights. Chug videos ended up getting banned because every chug post was a predictable shit-show, people were leaving the group, and the chuggers weren't contributing anything else. After chug videos were banned the chuggers kept posting, so the individuals were banned soon after, which proves they were just trolling for attention and had no other interest in the group.

*- Personally, I don't care if people chug a beer, but I also don't care to see it. My Facebook ban list grew considerably to keep chugging posts out of my feed, which mostly worked well.

 

Bros will be bros. But think of the views it gets them!

In reply to the OP people are doing this because they desire attention. People today need likes and praise to feel good. So you now have silly stunts like chugging high ABV beers etc. The best decision I made was to not have one social media account etc. its all crap. I love Ba because of my love of beer and the community, but outside of this social media etc. is a joke.

Yeah I'm firmly not in the "chugging" camp either. I do find it pretty funny though when it's expensive beer meant to be savored and what I find even more funny is how offended some people get about it. It's all quite fascinating to me lol

At this point in my life I don't get chugging either. When I was in college Chugging beer was normal.

 

One criteria was that it had to be really cheap beer, Mickeys comes to mind.

 

What's to be confused out, America has an endless population of morons.

 

One of the beer IG people I follow posted a video of herself chugging a glass of KBS. I just felt like it was very show-off-y and a waste of a great beer to sip and enjoy. It felt like "oh I have so much access to great beer that I don't mind essentially wasting one of these." Just my opinion.

 

I shotgunned a bud light on a perceived dare at a party a few years back. It was late in the evening and i guess i did ok but probably made a fool of myself.

I saw lots of good German beer chugged and even chugged a few big mugs back when I was invincible. Funniest episode was when several guys in my unit got involved in a chugging contest with some German guys. My buddy chugged a big mug. Sat there for a second or two and promptly puked it back into the mug. The German guys damn near puked they were laughing so hard.

 

More like zero to shitfaced.

 

It's pretty much the same thing as someone making a post just to talk down upon people who chug beers and then acting like you don't understand why they do it, just so you can point out the fact that you don't chug beer because you've learned to cherish the subtlety and flavor. You are so awesome because you don't chug.

 

Well, my baby used to sleep in a crib. We got rid of it because he's a toddler now.

 

Not that I didn't get a giggle out of your post, but chugging highly touted craft beers is the pinnacle of internet attention whoring. No YouTube, no chugging Loons or KBS. Pretty simple.

 

I've seen locals who have been into craft beer for a while post crazy chug vids. My theory is that they value likes >>> respect, or equate likes with respect...

 

I have not actually seen any videos but I'm sure it's just for show. There are videos of me on YouTube wearing goggles making it rain with champagne at a wedding reception. I don't even drink champagne.
