Yessss, made it thru Friday 13th unless I do something stupid in the next 2 hours....and look at me, finally beer correct glass on the 13th.....

 

Got off work a little early and ready to have a couple brews. Starting with this Super Collider by Brouwerij West. Very nice NEIPA, recommended. Cheers!

 

I've been wanting to do this experiment since last week. I don't even remember the thread, but there was some talk about weizen yeast in non-hefeweizens, and I remembered a house beer I used to make in the 90s. It was actually a doppelbock recipe, except fermented with hefeweizen yeast- so it had elements of both styles, but no wheat in the grist at all, and much more malty than banana/clove. Pretty unique, and I really liked it enough to make it my house 'special' beer.

Anyway, I was wondering if a lager/weizen blend would get me close enough to that character:

and the answer is, yeah! Not a dead ringer, but pretty damn close to declare success .

Had a very busy day of walking around 2nd and Charles and seeing Rampage. I believe I should make the Chicago beer trip sooner now lol. I think the dumb rock movie trend should continue. Only have 3 beers left I think I'll finish em and lay off the beer until I can see Super Troopers 2 after going to the bar with 50 craft beers on draft because I'm too broke to afford more right now.

 

They're perfectly cooked, but they were very fresh. I appreciate the tip, and I'll try to be more patient next time. BTW, here's what they look like after half an hour in the smoke (Jack Daniel's barrel chips):
