Stopped into my local supermarket last night on the way hime from work in the mood for a 6 of Bklyn EIPA - which they were out of - Bklyn Summer Ale was in it's slot (no thanks) -but on an end display of Metro shelving were 2- 4pks of this! - in a store where one would not likely find this - and at a regular price - I swore I would not go out of my way (by time or $$ spent) for it this year, and there it was! .....Serendipity ....
and getting up early as usual, I could hardy wait til first light to crack one - Cheers !

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Supposed to rain for 4 days, but at least it won't be too cold. Apparently there is a massive blizzard happening up north.

2015 is tasting amazing as usual. Flavors of big caramel, raisin, cherry, fig, date, apricot, apple, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, bourbon, and toasted oak; with some lighter notes of molasses, vanilla, and coconut. Light balancing bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish against the sweetness. Minimal warming ABV or barrel booziness. Very smooth sipping; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and lightly slick/syrupy full body mouthfeel. Touch of drying bourbon/oak tannins. Love this the most after at least 1 year of age to smooth out the boozy barrel notes. Perfectly balanced. Got 1 more 2015 left, but got 2 packs of 2016 off the shelf recently. Glad that this just sits on the shelf all year, one of my favorite cellar beers ever. English barleywines are my favorite style, and this is my go-to for the style basically. Price and availability are hard to beat.

2016 bottle from the cellar. This is mind blowing stuff! Flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, dark fudge, almond nuttiness, marshmallow, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, bourbon, and toasted oak; with light notes of coconut, smoke, dark fruits, tobacco, and herbal hops. Very mild herbal/roast bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is insane. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Mildly warming alcohol, zero barrel booziness. Dangerously smooth. This and the maple barrel version are both equal(to me), some of the absolute best beers I've ever had. Perfectly balanced decadent malts, flavorings, and bourbon barrel integration. Never cloying. Just had Double Barrel Biscotti for my 6600th review 3 days ago, and it was in the same tier of amazing.

Craft beer has officially become pretentious when it is trying to taste like German Chocolate cake. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to spend my morning jumping sharks. (Later today I’ll drink normal IPAs that actually taste like beer)

A Pale Ale brewed with Polaris and Cascade hops, but the Polaris hops really seem to take center stage, giving this a strong herbal character that is reminiscent of alpine herbs. Quite nice, actually.

    Good Morning BA

I’ve been waiting for the perfect morning to sit down outside with this one. Well, today is the day. The perfect spring morning with sun shining and birds chirping.

    Cheers!

Clear light gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of bready malt and floral spicy hops.

Flavor is richer than the scent with bready malt leading and hops in full support. A subtle interplay between the two with both in balance. There's a touch of ripe fruit which I'll call peach though it's not quite that and is very light, just enough there to be there. I didn't catch all the nuances at first but deeper into the glass the flavors build to a complex whole that remains consistent into the aftertaste.

    Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

This one's a winner for any purpose I have for a well crafted Helles Lager

The weather outside is frightful. This is the worst April weather that I recall, in my life. I was awakened by snowblowers, as well as the sound of wind seemingly trying to blow my house down. Drinking this brown ale from @DoctorZombies, with my brown dog, is a good way to make the best of the situation.
