That was my first thought. If he has 130 people taking a case or 65 people taking 2 cases off of him in his beer group I would have done the same in a second.

I just don’t get the thought process of this Facebook group. There is no doubt if people would have been patient Perrin would have been forced to distribute. No Rules is usually cheaper in the stores. I bought 2 bottles last year for $12.99 a bottle at Meijer weeks after the release. Why do people in this group like to pay more for beer? Or is this more of a hoarder thing? Just trying to get why almost $26,000 worth of beer had to be bought at one time.

Don't forget Chicago saw a decent amount. AND I found bottle in Denver last year. Just turding it up.

The guy posted on FB that he'd been sitting at the brewery since 8pm the night before, and his order accounted for 22% of the entire 2018 supply. I struggle with that math, but whatever.

    2. If I can pay more for something and someone will bring it to me with no lines, no hassle, and no chance of missing out? I would consider it.

It doesn't sound bad in a vacuum from a rewards perspective, but if you account for then renting a U-Haul to drive over to GR and sit in line for about 15 hours before they open, that's when it starts to sound pretty crazy.

The other thing that blows my mind is that there could be 130 people that want a full case of this stuff.

Yea. I suppose I didn't consider the 15 hours in line. IDK though. I get double points at places like that so....a couple of free flights might be worth it. Plus. I have to imagine he is marking it up somewhat to cover his expenses and time.

Why would you put yourself at risk of getting busted for distributing/transporting without a license?

Neckbeards don't work. It's not stout season. Ergo, his time is almost valueless!

You have to be pretty damn trusting to front $26k for a bunch of randoms on FB. My balls aren't that large.

As just a casual observer from the outside of all this, I'm enjoying this very much. Even more so knowing there's the same setup here in Minnesota with a Facebook group with an ironic name (as it relates to this). I don't know if they've pulled off a haul as big as this one though.

Getting double points certainly would add on to the appeal, and you have to think that is playing into his thinking. It would basically work out to $510 in cash back, assuming he gets 51K points for a $25,500 purchase. I don't think that amount would still be worth it when taking into account the rental of the van, all the hours in line and then perhaps worst of all - allocating out the beer afterwards and the process of collecting money (no idea if he had everyone pre-pay or not). Considering I know what it's like to collect money from 11 other guys in a fantasy football league and do things like allocate out Girl Scout cookies for my daughter's troop...no thanks.

Your last point is especially interesting about whether he marked it up somewhat to cover expenses...which would make me question those who put in orders for him even more. Meaning, there has been a ton of this beer last year, and available at a cheaper price than the brewery...yet people would actually pay this guy a buck or so more to get it. I understand the value of not having to stand in that awful weather, but going to Meijer to pick this up (as was done for the past year) is certainly not a lot of effort.

Such a strange scenario this is.

    $500 in rewards points.
Dont forget about the extra $1 off per beer for mug club members. That's $1250.
Subtract a few hundred for expenses.
Add in the extra money people gave and/or thank you beers, and he could potentially be pocketing $1500 to $3000 worth.

It's hard to put a price on his time, but that seems like a pretty good deal if you ask me.

He doesn't front it. He takes payment beforehand to lock in your bottles.

I feel like the whole muling thing just hit an exponential increase and there was no way to stop it.

Year 1 - i'll pick some bottles up for people.
Year 2 - i'll ask the facebook group who wants bottles and we'll get 27 cases. wow that's a lot.
Year 3 - oh shit what have I done.

in the end, credit card points ands thank you beers alone he is obviously coming out ahead. Last year the guy had a car full of thank you beers. I think he eventually had a party and basically had a lot of beers out and said take what you want to go.

But when you start bringing in the legal part of it. I don't know. If people gave you money beforehand, so you are just picking it up for them... I honestly don't know.

Now he has to meet up with people all over the place to try to get rid of them all.

I don't know that I would say "obviously" coming out ahead. I still say that the 15 hours sitting in line and then having to organize it all with payment and delivering, I don't think I see the value. The thank you beers are nice, but still...if it's too many beers to drink, then they really didn't add as much value as thought.

Perhaps one aspect we aren't addressing is that those credit card points can then lead to free flights to other "top" beer releases where he can get some whales and then sell those or trade them off for even higher value things. The value just keeps on coming for this guy!

I do have to wonder what Perrin's distributors think about this, assuming they are aware some random dude essentially became a competitor who swooped in and took the most valuable product that their client could offer them.
