We're going on vacation with the in-laws this year and it seems the consensus was to rent a place in Conway, New Hampshire. Anyone have any recommendations for the area? We're coming up from Mass and anything else worth checking out along the way would also be welcome. Not sure if we're taking I-93 or going the 16/125 route yet.

Half-hour south of Conway is Hobbs Brewery/Restaurant right on Rte 16. Good beer & ambitious (hits & misses) food.

Tuckerman’s Tavern in Conway is decent - beer is so-so & food OK. ( yeah a ringing endorsement!).

Moat Mountain has good beer, good but not great BBQ, but more importantly is a fun spot with good servers & a good crowd, especially at the bar . Would recommend this the most.

But, if you’re just looking for a really fun spot to accommodate many people & still get some local decent craft - the Muddy Moose is the pick. Diverse menu of pub stuff.

I went to Tuckerman's brewery there, its kinda industrial but has a nice sized bar, with more beers on tap that see distro to MA. Plus cornhole and the staff was super friendly

If you go the 16 Route, lots of good spots in the NH Seacoast. Stoneface would be at the top of my list for beers and food.

Stoneface is great stop. If you happen to choose the other route (I93), Kettlehead in Tilton is a good spot for a quick pit stop for food and beers. They usually have some cans to go and the food is quite good.

We've got a crew of folks that ski/hike, and a few have recently recommended a new spot https://www.barleyandsalt.com.

And a second to Moat! Brisket nachos, need I say more...

Glen Beverage is a good spot to grab some craft for consumption at home.

Sound like we've got some options to eat too. Thanks all! Will definitely check out Moat Mountain. I have no idea what else we're doing up there but, for me, vacation is entirely about finding good beer and putting on a few pounds.

I'd be careful of what you buy at Glen Beverage. You need to look at can/bottle dates thoroughly, they keep too much "aged" stuff on hand for the unaware to purchase. IMO go to Vista Country Store, they always have the nicest staff working there and and pretty deep/good selection. Flatbread usually has a descent selection on tap. I also agree with MOAT Mountain as being a must, they have growlers and cans to go.

Sounds, based on the relative endorsements that you should pretty much bring beer with you unless you are looking for atmosphere. It still strikes me that there are parts of NE that either can't get decent distribution or choose not to up the beer game. We have spent a bunch of time in Manchester VT (admittedly it has been a year) where maybe you could score some Fiddlehead or get Foley for takehome, but otherwise was pretty lean for craft choices. It sounds as though Conway has a similar profile. Bummer.

There is also a Seadog Brewing pub in North Conway. It is fairly new (2-3 years?) Seadog beer is Seadog beer. But the place itself is pretty nice and the food is decent pub fare.

Also mentioned above was Flatbreads. They have one of the better local tap lists.

I'll second the barley and salt. Went skiing in February and they had the best food and tap list.

I'm in North Conway often. Can't believe no one has mentioned this place but I always stop in at Vista Country Store. Doesn't look like much but it's the best bottle shop in the area that I have found.

I'll second Moat Mountain, I stop there every time I'm in the area.

Also I've been up there since I was a kid and never knew about Vista County Store, thanks @Jcorn

Last year was the first summer in about 10 years that I didn't make it up to Moat Mountain, and I missed it. The beer and food are always good, if not necessarily mind-blowing, and it's always a fun experience. They also rent out a few nice, comfortable rooms upstairs--probably the best deal in the valley. Plus, if you let them know that you're staying upstairs, you usually get bumped to the front of the line for a table.

Smoked brisket nachos and a rack of ribs from Moat Mountain... heaven!
Wash it down with a few solid beers from across the beer spectrum, although they don't do the currently trending styles well.

It's very easy to miss if you didn't realize what it was. He has a small sign outside I believe that just says "craft beer". Haha. It looks like, well, a little country store.
