    Sigh - another NEIPA <yawn>.

Unless it’s on level of Trill/TH or a decent price, this could be a failure. Is there any attempt at marketing this despite the IG post? Like tastings or other events?

Wow, reading through the thread to catch up on Spencer (Spencer Peach was BTW IMHO disgusting) I was thinking that the only sign left that they were circling the toilet ready to go down was if they released an IPA in 4 pack 16 oz cans. Swirling confirmed. (Had to double check that the can release announcement was not on April Fools Day.) Problem is, if they want to sell beer 1) the Trappist thing is not going to influence IPA sales, 2) to make an impact on the market audience it needs to be 9.5% ABV not 6.3%, and 3) now they have the problem that at the liquor store people may buy a six month old, dusty bottle of Trappist ale but not so much a six month old, dusty four pack of IPA cans. Hope they can convert the excess capacity to a lucrative contract brewing facility, but for the Spencer beers...Whoosh.

The NE IPA is a brewery only release for their open house in June. I'm not sure if that makes this better or worse... Whether they are succeeding or failing this is just odd. I have been planning to go to their open house but not for a NE IPA. I would think that most of the people planning on going are like me, interested in the whole concept of a Trappist brewery and the type of beers traditional Trappist breweries brew. That's kind of the appeal of a US Trappist brewery. I can go anywhere for a NE IPA. It doesn't seem like something that's going to draw people in.

Now if they really wanted to make a mark and draw in a large crowd they could have done a collaboration with Westvleteren. That would give them some credibility as well as being able to sell out on site beer sales. Who knows maybe they'll surprise us and make an incredible NE IPA. I'm pretty doubtful to be honest.

    From Spencer's website:

Note that the importance of preserving the stylistic traditions of Trappist brewing isn't mentioned. That's just not the point, nor should it be IMO. It's not a beer museum, it's a working brewery.
