    If I still lived in NYC I would hire them.

    Seriously, people don't value their own time enough.

    Unless the OH guy handing out the wristbands put them on everyone's wrists super tight and had a policy that tampered wristbands aren't valid, I don't see a problem with swapping with a line sitter.

    I wanted to scribble some missive about how line sitters are stupid but your observation is spot on, especially for salaried people who tend not to think of their time in terms of earnings per hour. I've never hired one and probably wouldn't for beer (for something else, maybe?), but in principle it really does make sense.

    Here is a crazy idea, show up a week when all the ridiculous hype isn’t present and don’t pay anyone to wait in line.

    Einstein's Daydream is awesome, Bad Hair Day is...ok, it's overly hot n' boozy right now. Haven't tried Outerspace yet.

    Anyway, while there are definitely douche idiots that degrade beer culture (e.g. Teku-kicking Daniel-san, or LOOK AT ME ATTENTION SEEKING YELLING AT 7:30AM FUCKHEAD), I personally had a pretty dope time on line, shooting the shit with some nice guys who had some awesome beer that they poured around. Got to try some really amazing beer. I think the closer you go to the front, the worse it is (generally speaking), like an EDM concert, or a Cincinnati Reds game.

    Line dudes website say they charge $45 for the first 2 hours and then $20 an hour afterwards. Wouldnt it be cheaper to just have someone mule the beer? It's usually $10 a 4 pack, no?

    Depends on how much you're buying. Just do the math, it makes sense if you are buying a lot (ie, splitting with friends). Quick example:
    • Assume 5 hours for Line Sitter + $25 Delivery = $125
    • Assume Avg $20 cost per 4pack
    • @6 4packs purchased ==> net cost per 4pack = $40.83
    • @12 4packs purchased ==> net cost per 4pack = $30.42
    • @18 4packs purchased ==> net cost per 4pack = $26.94
    • @24 4pack purchased ==> net cost per 4pack = $25.21
    The economics work out if you're buying bulk, otherwise most definitely not. Obviously if you only need the line sitter for a shorter period, the numbers look even better.

    It becomes cheaper to have a line dude after four 4-packs based on $20 four packs
    Mule - Line dude
    $30x = $45 + $20x
    x = 4.5

    I only ever buy a couple four packs at a time, so buying big allotments didn't occur to me. It makes a lot more sense to hire a line guy when you're buying multiple cases as you mathed out. If they actually deliver it to you, that in itself is probably worth it rather than lugging several cases of beer back home.

    I once used the service with two friends for a big release. Made way too much sense. Not a big uptick in the cost per 4pck when you break it down and I was able to knock out all of my errands in the morning

    That's been my experience with these big releases, have met some cool people who were very generous with pouring some awesome stuff while we waited.

    It’s not really the same though. All the stuff above is pretty conventional. 1+1=2 type stuff. Dhaakon math is more 1+1=3,762 calories and 4.3 cases of beer and a 9 hour line

    If you pay a line guy to hold your spot for 9 hours, does he get to keep the brisket allotment or is that included as part of the beer delivery?

    You'd need another linedude for the brisket line.

    I have to say Simcoe + Idaho 7 might low key be one of the best beers OH has put out, probably my second favorite of the 2 hop DIPAs, just behind Citra + Galaxy.

    Have the releases, besides yesterday, been pretty mellow? I'm assuming that it will be more chill after everyone loaded up yesterday. Heading to the brewery this coming weekend and after getting in line at 7 am for the 4th anni and only getting one kind of beer (regardless of it being the best beer I've ever had), I'm pretty soured on the OH line.

    Also what is the best way to do IP trades on the line? IG comments? I'll be bringing some TH and Trill down to try and trade for yesterday's EQ collab among other EQ offerings.
