Create a top 250 Breweries ranking?

    I see this on Untappd and like it. Thought it would be a good resource to add for Beer Advocate as we only have the rankings by state or country.

    I don’t necessarily need it. I feel the same way about the top 250 beers list as well. I’m not at all trying to say that it’s a bad idea or that I’m against a list like that, I just see it less as a resource or tool and more as a popularity contest.

    Well there obviously would have to be some basic parameters. Just some ideas like:
    1) must be in existence for 1 year to be ranked
    2) all the beers they brew count towards the weighted avg. of the brewery ranking.
    3) goal in rankings would be to showcase the breweries with the best portfolio of beers offered by rating/reviews be ranked higher. One great beer and 10 avg. beers wouldn't put the brewery that high up per say.

    Honestly, I really don't know but I'm sure the Bros. and their geek squad of programmers could figure something out credible. If Untappd could do it, BA sure could and the ratings/reviews on BA are more credible so I'd be more inclined to rely on BA to know which breweries are making the best portfolio of beers.

    I don't believe it needs to be in existence a year, but beer rating should only count for those with 5 or more ratings. Should also factor in the place rating if there are 5 or more ratings.

    We've been pulling top breweries for internal purposes for a couple of decades. The data and core code exists. We'd just need to review the criteria and add it to the site.

    If I recall correctly, the current brewery ratings include the rating of the place itself and averages of their beer ratings.

    It would be cool to see who's ranking best, although I could see it being dominated by breweries with a handful or beers already in the top 250. It would be cool to see and make this site a little extra helpful as a resource for all things beer.
