are there any recommendations for breweries (Uber distance) and or craft beer bars near More and Mikerphone?
Number 1, they aren’t that close. Depending on when you travel between the 2, you’re looking at an hour at minimum. They aren’t far, but traffic just sucks. And IMO, I really don’t think More is worth a special trip. You’re much better off spending the time in the city. The beers are fine, but I would never go, if I didn’t have family near by.
Skip Mike and hit Lunar, MoRE and Noon Whistle. All are good for different reasons and virtually no traffic issues between them.
Thanks. The plan is to hit that area on Thursday and go near the city on Friday. Any recomendations in the city? Do you think GI Fulton will have anything special during Illinois Beer Week?
Probably. They’re usually pretty good about having something special during that time. My rec for that Friday would be Goose Forbidden Root Bangers and Lace Revolution (check the website to see if taproom or brewpub has better draft list) Forbidden Root and Goose are less than half a mile away from each other. IMO, Forbidden Root does the best NE IPAs in the state (along with Corridor), and always has cool guest raps as well. Bangers and Lace is one of the 3 or 4 best beer bars in the city, snd Revolution is just all around great. They have a taproom at the production facility, and a brewpub, and the drafts change pretty regularly, so I’d just go to the website and see which one looks better on that day.
Head into the city. I would do the following. Forbidden Root Map Room or Links - Bar Corridor Half Acre on Lincoln Hop Leaf - Bar
More has hype stouts that are never on tap. Hazy IPAs some of which are great, and others that are just ok. All of the other beer styles they attempt are average and feel like an afterthought. The food is good though. In my experience there will be one or two NEIPAs on tap to try and everything else should be skipped. Just don't expect to try all their crazy hype stuff if you go there.
Lots of great suggestions here, and definitely check out the Visiting Chicagoland thread - I tagged you on it to bring it up to the front of this forum. And don't be deterred by the drive from More to Mikerphone - I did it not too long ago and it wasn't bad (25 minutes). Traffic can certainly turn on a dime and be awful around here, but it shouldn't be too bad.
