Now that the weather is heating up for us northerners its time to talk about this. Are there any good ones or are they all mediocre or average ? I only had 3 or 4 btw and I wasnt a fan. Ones I havent had that I probably am able to get are Ballast Point Watermelon Dorado (if its still sold) and Hell or High Watermelon (21st Amendment Brewery)

I've only tried a handful of watermelon beers and almost all of them are disgusting to me, BUT the only one that I really enjoy is Terrapin Watermelon Gose. It has just the right combination of salt and watermelon flavor to make it one of my go-to beers on a hot summer day.

Founders Green Zebra is good, in my opinion.

Anderson Valley Briney Melon Gose - I like it because it has more salt than it probably needs, but I put salt on watermelon anyway and the wife thinks it's a little too salty. She used to like Hell or High Watermelon...until Green Zebra came along. Watermelon Dorado and New Belgium's watermelon - neither of us liked as they tasted totally artificial like Jolly Rancher candies.

I agree that it is the watermelon plus salt that makes it work for me in the ones we have tried. The salt balances the sweetness.

We found the ones we've tried in RI/SEMass - Nikki's, Yankee, High Spirits. First Amendment Hell or High - watch for OLD inventory and I mean like last year's cans still being sold...those are NOT good.

Watermelon and sours can go very well together. Jester King had a 2015 Dichotomous with all sorts of melons that was excellent--there's a solid cohort pulling for that to be re-released. Hoppin Frog put their Gose through an an infusion tower with watermelon and it was magnificent.

Thanks for the heads up. I am obviously very familiar with Nikki's and Yankee Spirits.

I've had Founders Green Zebra (good), Mikkeller's Berliner Weisse watermelon (okay) and New Belgium's Heavy Melon (nope). Watermelon's an interesting adjunct, but I think it makes the most sense in a Gose.

Thinking that water melon beer fans don't like beer. Would suggest bud light lime 'ritas.

16 Mile out of Delaware does a Blond Ale named Seed-Free and Joy (with a tiger on the label, get it?) It's a nice summer quencher without the Jolly Rancher sweetness. Worth a try, IMHO.

Haven't had one I've liked but if I brewed one I would call it 'Nice Melons'...

Watermelon Gose by Terrapin is quality stuff. Quenching and not overly sweet. I'd suggest checking it out.

    Why?
But seriously, you are in RI, Hooker Brewing in CT had a good watermelon beer but I don't know if its out yet or planned for this year. I would guess it would be available in your area if its out.

BTW, Thomas Hooker is the founder of Hartford, not a prostitute, but I am sure its asked a lot at the brewery.

Hard to imagine that one could taste strongly enough to be interesting, since watermelon is a pretty watered down fruit.

Rivertown beat you to it. Watermelon BW. Rocks the jolly rancher and has a good tartness. Extremely drinkable on the beach, but they aren't making it this year

21st amendment hell or high watermelon. Even tho it's not my style It was better than I expected. It's a lighter wheat beer. I could drink one every once in a while but it's not going to replace Abita purple haze for me.

I liked Thomas Hooker Watermelon Ale & Founders Green Zebra, but New Belgium's was too sweet for me. Had a couple others along the way, but I don't remember them other than I didn't like them .
