This Sunday is Sly Fox's annual Bockfest and Goat Race in Pottstown, PA. German food, live oom-pah music, bock beers, and goat race. http://slyfoxbeer.com/bockfest

Wow, what a weekend! Star Wars day, Cinco de Mayo, Kentucky Derby Day, Sly Fox Goat Races - unbelievable! Unfortunately I will once again miss the Goat Races as I have to take care of my elderly father (which means he bosses me around as I do his house and yard work!). If you can make it to the Goat Races it's a great event with great beer.

The travel writer Rick Steves asked for a half liter at Oktoberfest. The beer maid told him to come back when he was thirsty.

Liters are so easy to drink. Try drinking from a yard glass or even a half yard glass. But that's more of a Brit thing.

No idea. I found it in my boss's fridge.

The German boot equates to the Brittish yard -- both "novelty" vessels designed for the prankster to get one over on the unaware.

Many years ago I had a pint from a local brewer which, although excellent beer, was not what I expected. I phoned the brewery and the next thing was that the whole batch had been withdrawn and replaced. The problem was an accidental recipe change but this was enough to justify removal.

And now you'll never get the chance to drink that beer again? Or have they repackaged it under another label?

I enjoy Maibocks - and I sorely miss Victory St. Boisterous. Haven't really found a replacement since. Troegs had one which was OK, and I have access to Hofbrau's, which is OK too, but neither really pumped my nads

Picked up Von Trapp Bock Bier and a bottle of Celebrator this weekend, had the Von Trapp last night, definitely a slow drinking beer. Interested to see how it compares to Celebrator.

Sly Fox makes a very good Helles Bock - I had a pint at the brewpub this past weekend. Unfortunately it is a draft only product.

    Cheers!

I opened a Feldschlösschen Maibock that I got from our local ALDI yesterday and really enjoyed it.

Big pale malt flavor with a bracing bitterness to stand up to it.

Slyfox doesn't really make its way to NY anymore. You would have to special request it

it's time for a trip to my Aldi. Maibock is my favorite style, and I'm having trouble finding any maibock, let alone a good one. Thanks for the heads-up.

I'm reminiscing. It will be exactly 10 years ago next week that I arrived to Dortmund, Germany to start my internship. A couple of days after I arrived I encountered my first Maibock. It was at Wenkers am Markt. It was delicious, almost honeylike maltiness that dried out quickly to drink again and again.

I wish you luck. I bought 3 4-packs a week or so ago and there were not many left in my store. I don't think they get many in.

I enjoyed it two years ago but last year somehow I missed out even though I went every week.

That I do not know. But I do remember that it was the landlady who noticed it first. She said it didn't smell right.Yet she didn't drink beer, she just served it.

I looked for the Aldi Feldschlößchen earlier in the season, but didn't find it. Wonder if it's available now?

I don't know if it will be now. It showed up two weeks or so ago in North Texas but I think it sold out right away at least in my store.
