Today's new beer is Wild Classic Saison from Blackberry Farm. The bottle pour is hazy to cloudy white-yellow with a very fluffy foam cap ~5cm+! The aroma is big, Brett-like with light lemon citrus and slightly floral. The flavor matches the nose. The flavor is funky overall, but delicately so. A bit of tartness, with lemon and a spicy white-pepper, follows and there is a mellow base that seems oak-y (although I do not think there was barrel-aging). The finish is dry and clean and includes a floral aspect. This is a superb and immensely enjoyable beverage.

Ha. You are making me feel like I'm doing something right because CBC Working Class Hero was my favorite canned saison (or at least I would have said that a week ago). That beer doesn't come around here no more though. Any sixers lingering are years old. Cheers.

    Hey what's going on!?

Awesome playoff NHL hockey that's what! I am cheering for a Caps vs. Jets final, and baby... I say it's going happen! Best of both worlds.

Until then... I got plenty of beer.. lets get this rolling..

What's new for our hero today?

Poured from the can into a snifter glass.

Creamy forming to light foam dark tan head, that dissolves to a faint top and a good collar. Dark walnut brown boddy color opaque, with a center punch of carbonation, leaving a nice tiny oasis of tan head in the centre.

Varied and expressive aroma. Dark roasted malts that flirt with char. There's a bisucity component to this also much like a good baked cookie. Chili notes and thick hazelnut abound. Whole enchilada is in there with lots to explore. This dark molasses cookie sweetness seems to dominate with the chili following afterwards.

Palate is very unexpected. Fruity tang ester, like a sweet plum on first sip. That large purple grape taste continues throughout, which really comes out of nowhere. Light bodied, with a touch of more biscuity dark cookie that was hinted on the nose. Finishes with a real tangy fruitness also. Chili and nutty quality not so apparent on the palate.

It's a tasty beer, but tastes nothing like the aromas or the cans description. Has this giant what I can only guess is estery fruit quality that is actually nice but doesn't seem to make the beer as it is described.

Sounds worth looking for even if not ideal as a Saison. Hope you'll do the listing.

    Howdy howdy howdy, NBS!

I just got back from 5 days on my usual northern France favorite spot close to the sea and only 1h30 from my town. The weather has been incredibly warm and sunny and close to 90F, a very pleasant short vacay.

Today is...New English Pale Ale Sunday, and from Scotland, Querkus produced by Belhaven.

500ml bottle poured into a wine glass. No head at all as per many in the style.

Aroma is vanilla, oak and a hint of whisky warmth on the finish.

According to the label. It’s brewed from 100% Scottish barley malt and water from their ancient brewery then matured on oak.

Overall, Quarkus is a smooth, sort of complex beer sophisticated yet approachable. This is Scotland and they have a thing for whisky.

    Cheers peers!

    Saranac s'more stout
    Pours a very dark mahogany
..above average carbonation with a little bit of a thin body
..aroma is marshmallow,Graham cracker and vanilla
..taste is mostly marshmallow with a cola like taste also
..Overall it was a bit thin but basically delivered on the taste promised and was fairly enjoyable

New Beer Sunday: A New IPA

    Afternoon NBSers,

Well, with a pretty full morning of some heavy-duty yard work finished off (and after a quick shower and some lunch), it’s time to take a break for a bit with another new beer before starting the next round of chores.

This afternoon’s new beer is the Captain Lawrence Orbital Tilt — Galaxy. The beer is both new to me and newly listed on the site.

As usual, my review, subject to revision until I finish the beer, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/12959/341198/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors of this beer include some citrus, some tropical fruit, some stone fruit (e.g., peaches) against a background of light malt sweetness and some earthy bitterness. This is a well balanced beer so all the aromas and flavors get a chance to play without being overwhelmed by the others but the fruitiness from the hops is the star of the show while the rest are the supporting cast.

    Cheers. all!

Having one that my stepdaughter dropped off on her from Tampa to Charlotte. She knows I love some Angry Chair so usually brings me some when she visits.

Pours a hazy yellow. Very active carbonation but doesn't form a head.
Smells citrusy, blood orange and lemon. A little tart too.
Taste follows, very lemony, tart, with some blood orange.
Light to medium bodied, prickly carbonation.
Overall not my favorite AC brew. It seems to be an odd mix between a Berliner and an IPA.

Reorganizing the cellar and typing up an inventory spreadsheet, something that should (hopefully) help curb future excessive purchases and help me keep track of what's in the cellar and for how long. Taking a pause to review a new-to-me coffee beer, something I can't just idly pass by in the store. I'm typing this up an arms reach from my cellar shelves. I've considered putting a table and chair down here to make this a more friendly drinking environment, but haven't bitten that bullet yet. Perhaps for the best since this reorganizing and inventory session is the prequel to a possible move in the next 6 months.

    Dugges's Coffee Vanilla Black.

Pours black with a finger of khaki foam. Head retention is fair with no lacing left behind. Aroma is a smattering of medium-roast coffee, roasty chocolate, vanilla bean, and roasty and charred malts. Flavor profile is medium-roast coffee that carries heavy chocolate, butter, and light citrus notes. Milk chocolate and vanilla bean spice up the flavor profile even further. Roasted and toasted malts form a firm foundation. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a smooth, nigh on creamy texture. Overall, a label that forshadows this beer well. Lovely coffee presence.

Was inspired by @Squire who I believe reviewed this last week and compared it to westmalle
    New belgium Dubbel
..pours a semi clear amber /brown
..medium carbonation and around a medium body
..aroma is plums, dried dark fruit, brown sugar, yeast and what seems like cherries
..taste is similar, a bit dry and more bitter than westmalle which I think squire mentioned. Definitely dry dark fruit but not nearly as pronounced as westmalle
..Overall it was really very good.where as westmalle is denser, heavier, and much more full of dark fruit flavor tho was a refreshing lighter version. Thank you to -squire- for the inspiration to try this[IMG]

    Time for another beer.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass. Packaged, something indecipherable on the bottom of the can.

Thick rich and forming cascading doubling over head. Of tan in color, almost khaki but tinges darker. Fistfull with big swiss cheese appearances and a thick foamy cap. Aggressive and in control, under a tight dark nearly black body, a touch of red under the lip of the head with some suprising clarity. Excellent looking porter.

Creamy sensing aromas, touches light vanilla and classic crackling roast. Faint touch of estery fruit almost strawberry, but the malts dominate as they should and nicely. Simple, not too large and pretty straight forward. Solid nose.

Palate kind of sticks to ordinary. A bit of wet mouthfeel doesn't help, as first initial flavors are kind of absent. Finishes with a bit of light but paper malt flavors, there's a very strong but light textured black licorice on this which is very impressive if it weren't so much for the lacking body. Candy store licorice even coats and lingers.

An unfortunate porter with a unique flavor that isn't getting it's right justice.

Happy Sunday NBS players. A very grey and overcast spring day here on the island. Keeping my at home consumption to a minimum to appease the fiancé. Luckily, there are plenty of good craft beer bars in the area. Hitting up Brewology here players.

My first new beer today is Eugene, a porter, from Revolution brewing. The brew checks in at 6.8% abv.

A black pour with a fast off-white head. The nose is nicely floral with chocholate malts. The rich chocholate malt carries right over from the nose on the first few sips. A rather rich and smooth flow with a semi bitter finish. Rich, and robust with a slight cola flavor but nothing to off-putting. The mouth feel is really spot on. Not too heavy but not watery at all. Have i mentioned rich and robust yet?

Overall, I haven’t been to impressed with revolution but this one is solid example of the style. I’m right around a 4 here players.

Good morning for me, afternoon for most, and either way a happy New Black Sunday. Didn't get a chance to go out and about exploring this weekend as I had to load and offload two truck beds full of brick by myself. If you've never seen a "Shit ton of bricks", here is some imagery for you:

Later on, we got some free tickets to see the Portland Thorns FC game, and despite their loss to the big rival, we have a new fanatic in our 4 year old daughter to join the insanity of this cities obsession and undying loyalty to its soccer teams. The reward after the punishment, I'd say.

And now it's time for another new beer. I'm exhausted, but luckily for me, a generous and long time sharer of brews with me has delivered quite the array of refreshing, rustic biers. It's a cool morning, so I'm taking advantage and hitting one of my favorite styles courtesy of @WesMantooth . Thanks again Corey!

    Wooly Pig
    Schwarzbier
    (Black Lager)

Wooly Pig Schwarzbier is dark. Extremely dark actually, giving support to the phrase "Schwarz", where many other black lagers might not. It is difficult to determine its clarity other than the bright crimson and cola brown highlights that shimmer when light stricken at the base of the glass. The lightly tanned head is impressive, persistent, and stubborn. When it finally descends, streaks like dripping paint along with rings of spider webs stay plastered to the glass. This is a fine looking Schwarzbier.

As I've seen with the two previous Wooly Pig offerings I've had, this smells raw in a wonderful way. Very earthy like freshly turned soil. As advertised on the label, notes of dark chocolate and spent coffee grains are present, along with a deeply rooted floral hoppiness and some cola spice.

It mentions wood smoke. I can see that, especially the wood part, but I percieve that 'smoke' more as toasted bread just before reaching burnt. A sweet chocolate and caramel balances out that char very well. Above all, from start to finish, this is earthy and roasty without being specific.

Symbiotic with the aroma and flavor, this is balanced. Sweet then bitter, but brought together by its roast characters. Although it has a crisp, dry, foamy finish, the body is actually kind of meat or chewy. A quality that I welcome in low abv beers.

A very solid Schwarzbier in my opinion. An all day sipper in fact. It's nice to see this style get more attention as of late, and I enjoy being the benefactor, especially to well made ones like this. Another example that a beer can be simple, driven by roots and tradition, and still have wonderful complexities while most importantly being delicious and fulfilling. Thanks again Corey.

After my official review, I gave Wooly Pig Schwarzbier a rating of 4.24 with an rDev of +1.2%.

Cheers everyone, and I will see you all soon. Perhaps after a little nap.

Well, I made it to the store and grabbed a six pack of Tropicalia from Creature Comforts for my first NBS thread! I usually prefer Double IPA's to singles but I wanted to switch it up a bit and try something local but that kind of limits your options when in Georgia. Canned on 4/19 best drank by 7/18 according to the bottom of the can, so this beer is about 2.5 weeks old. About one finger of head. Nose is definitely tropical, picking out scents of pineapple, mango, grapefruit, and orange. Taste follows the nose to an extent but is mostly grapefruit. Slightly bitter finish but not bitter at all relative to most other IPA's. About the perfect level of carbonation. This is definitely an enjoyable beer especially on a perfect day like today (sunny in the 80s with a nice breeze). Extremely drinkable and very smooth mouthfeel. I generally don't like buying six packs of beers I have never tried but I am glad I did in this case because I definitely don't want to stop after just one. I may come back and add some additional thoughts later but I definitely don't think I have had a better IPA from a Georgia brewery. I would definitely recommend this one.
