Good evening, NBS. Mixed weekend here in the kingdom. Yesterday was very nice if a bit warm, so we did get some outside work done. Amazingly (unfortunately?) the lawnmower started on the first pull... Today was uncomfortable. Somewhere between warm and cold, but quite humid. Just call it crappy. Got a couple varieties of kale planted and cauliflower...never grown it before, but why not? We picked up the annual haul of culinary herbs and started on filling in perrenials. Tomato plants should be next on the agenda.

Anyhow...the beah. The missus had this one a couple of weeks ago, but with my own can I can get into it and talk about it. Springdale Barrel Room Pearly Wit.

A country style witbier. Pours dirty pale yellow with a massive foamy head that devolves into soap bubbles and eventually goes away. Steady stream of bubbles, just no head to replenish. The aroma tracks to style, wheaty, herbal, slightly peppery, lemon, coriander. Fruity...pears or sweet apples?

Taste is nice, but maybe slightly less bold than the aroma. Yeasty, bready, slight tang from wheat. Spicy and peppery. Lemon amps up wiyh each swallow. Slight tartness, maybe a hint of saltiness or mineral tang. A bit of fruit, coriander, and the pepper gets pretty assertive. Light bodied, a bit thin, moderate carbonation.

This is a nice beer, brewed with the style in mind, seems to me. This will land a bit north of 4.0, not sure how much. Worthy.

Belated edit to thank our gracious host for today's festivities. @cjgiant - another great kickoff.

I have sent that to a great BA and he dug it. Very nice, but a very unique stout, woody, coffee, dark chocolate with huge oaked vanilla finish. Pretty darn complex stout, a must try if you get the chance.

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

I'll be honest, work just totally drained me this weekend. I don't know why. All I do know is that I get 2 days off in a row for the first time since I was on my North Carolina vacation back in March. In honor of that, I've decided to work on some of the beers I brought back to Minnesota from there.

    First up tonight.
Riverkeeper's Wit from Neuse River Brewing.

I remember driving from Raleigh to New Bern, I kept seeing signs on 70 about rivers being part of the Neuse River system. I also passed over it driving around New Bern. Seeing a beer with this brewery name was something I had to get. I think I picked this up at the Glass Jug in Durham, and I'm glad I did.

It is a solid Belgian Witbier. Really delicious flavor. Easy drinking, but also full bodied at the same time. So good, and this can is going in my hall of fame.

This beer pours a fairly clear, lighter golden color. The head was white, 1 finger, but not long lasting at all. There is some carbonation bubbles rising in the glass.
The nose is a malty biscuit aroma. Slightly sweet smelling.
Taste - Quite good. Up front there's almost a fruity flavor, that, on the backside turns slightly tart. Malty.
Feel Quite full bodied, in my book. There's some carbonation bubbles that dance on my palate.
Delicious, and fun to drink. Sold Belgian Wit. Recommended.

There will be at least one more beer tonight. I don't want to go too crazy on this "Friday" for me, because I'll be smoking and grilling like crazy tomorrow.

See you all on the next North Carolina beer.

    .cloudy brown appearance
..thick creamy body with above carbonation
    ..aroma is raisins,plums, yeast,brown sugar
..taste is similar, raisins stand out and it has a slight bitter spice taste that shows up mid sip and lingers.
..Overall it's a nice take on the style, not as sweet as some are and the spice bite makes it interesting[IMG]upload images free

Shared a couple more with my neighbor while the kids played, had to get them fed and ready for bed so I'll review them now.

This one courtesy of @Vidblain as well.
Pours an opaque orange with a thick white head.
Smells of pineapple, vanilla, and coconut.
Taste is the same with the pineapple and coconut. Loads of vanilla and lactose really make this one taste like a milkshake.
    Full bodied, thick feeling beer.
Overall a great experience. I don't think I could drink multiple ones of these in a session because of the sweetness but it was a good beer.

Saw this for the first time, on Friday, while in search of more Alpenflo. $6.99/bottle, so figured worst-case scenario was an Italy tick. *shrug*:sunglasses:
Thought it was a brown ale, but turns out it's a dubbel. At first, it does smell like a dubbel, with a (moist) dried stone fruit aroma + dry red wine smell. Reminds me of Captain Lawrence's Red Barrel Select, in that regard. After a couple minutes, that fades, & it smells of nuts & generic cola (RC COLA?) . It has me (vainly) wishing for carrot cake, for some reason. It'd probably be a good accompaniment for such desserts . By itself though, that big bottle is too much. It's not bad, but it's nothing special either. It'd be better shared. It's too tall to recap , & put back in the refrigerator, upright, so I guess I'll have to finish it.:slight_smile:

    Another Nashville brew from @Buck89

This one was a colab with my favorite local brewery, Creature Comforts so i had to seek it out.
Pours a hazy orange with a finger of bright white head
Smells of pineapple and citrus dominate.
Taste followed, pineapple and sweet citrus. It finishes with a bit of dankness.
    Medium bodied good carb level.
Overall a great beer that I can see both brewer's influence on.

Hey, all. I hope to get to two new ones today, both sent to me by @falloutsnow. First up is a nice one, Krankshaft Kolsch from Metropolitan Brewing-

    Here’s my BA review:

    3.95/5 rDev +3.9%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Look- pours a slightly clloudy pale golden straw color with a dense white head and spotty lacing

Aroma- very subtle crackery malt, honey-like sweetness and floral hops

Taste- crackery malt with a mild slightly sweet honey note, floral and earthy hops, along with slightly tangy note that sort of morphs into a mild bitterness

Feel- medium light bodied with prickyly carbonation; finishes a bit dry and with a little bitterness

Overall- very enjoyable kolsch with subtle malt and hop notes that are nicely balanced

Thanks to @cjgiant for getting us started this morning, and to everyone else for the new beers. Cheers!

Burial Beer Co. Tin Cup Camp Stout.

This is the final one for tonight, though it could be a "breakfast" beer. Really rich in coffee flavor, and just a touch of lactose. Really good.

Pours a dark brown color, with a 2 finger tan head. The retention was so,so, and there's no lacing on the glass.
The nose is very rich with coffee. There's not too much else, because the coffee really is strong.
Taste - Up front it's more of lactose, but on the backside its all coffee. The coffee flavor really lingers on the palate.
Feel - moderate body, and the feel of the coffee in my throat really lingers.
One of the better coffee stouts I've had.

Yet another sample from the Weyerbacher rep who paid a visit on Wednesday. Still a couple others to try...

    Packaged 03/16/18.
Moderate pour yields a light tan head over a mahogany-brown body with scant lacing. Nose of dark fruit and lemon. Taste of sour cherry with a bit of chocolate noticed 2/3 of the way through. Good feel and overall, a bit strange and certainly not sexy, but very puckering. Cheers!

Aroma: roasted coffee and burnt chocolate

Taste: started off with slightly sweet coffee/chocolate taste, it moved towards a more bittersweet chocolate, and finished the palate with more of a charred/burnt flavor with a hint of tobacco and whiskey barrel. I didn't really get too much of a barrel presence but it started to show a little more as it warmed up.

Mouthfeel: medium carb with a pretty good level of viscosity

I thought it was a pretty good beer but its not one that I'd want to solo by myself again. A split with 2-3 friends would be perfect for me. Hope that helped some @drtth
Maybe @jhavs has had this before and could lend some information to this too

Happy New 4 x 12 Stable Street Dock Hands Beer Sunday (Week 689), CANtinued!

Well done to @Premo88 for correctly guessing that today's misadventures will be brought to you in part by The CANQuest (tm), a proud advocate of recycling, as well as the letters "A" & "P" & the number "7" and the color "Yellow".

Man, Dock Street is really bringing their CANs to us here in Lancaster, PA! I underCANd, through the grapevine, that Scott "The Dude" Morrison has moved on from his gig with Rosemary Certo, but no matter. I am digging what I am drinking!

I CANtinued my exCANsion into Dock Street with:

It has certainly been an interesting afternoon with Vivaldi's, I mean, Dock Street's "Four Seasons", I mean, three seasons, but I am feeling a pronounced hop jones. Maybe they CAN help me ...

    New Belgium Sour Saison

Following in the footsteps of others here in picking a New Belgium beer, but also totally in line with my theme today, here’s New Belgium’s Sour Saison. I can appreciate the directness in advertising. The yeast is a hybrid "Belgian/French saison yeast" along with their house mixed culture. I feel like this one promises more than it delivers. It is sour, but in a very rounded way. Taste is of apples. I enjoy and admire integrated beers, and subtlety is something I really like, but everything feels too smoothed out with this one. More personality would go a long way.

Many thanks to @cjgiant for getting this recurring thread off and running. Due to limited time (on travel) I'm going to opt for the truncated submission, so please forgive for lack of imagery or prose.

I've had the pleasure of sampling some delicious offerings in the Chicago area/distro today...and they've been GREAT! Listing them in order of BA score, but they were all greatly enjoyed.

    1. Pipeworks Ninja v. Unicorn, DIPA: My BA score = 4.55, this is what I LOVE in a West Coast DIPA, approachable, bitter, enamel dissolving astringency/acidity. LOVED it:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28178/77708/?ba=jakecattleco#review

    2. 3 Floyds Gumballhead, Wheat APA: My BA score = 4.29, never thought I'd find a sessionable wheat pale I'd like more than Modern Times Fortunate Island...and then I had this beer. Nose doesn't 'set the table' quite as much as I'd like, but the taste crushes it!

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/9478/?ba=jakecattleco#review

    3. 3 Floyds $600 Lizard Shoes, IPA: My BA score = 4.24, felt the juicy aspects from the nose became lost in the taste. A delicious beer, that I'd like to revisit packaged.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/221305/?ba=jakecattleco#review

    4. Revolution Fist City Pale Ale, APA: My BA score = 4.21, LOTS of flavor in this pale. Very tropical for my palate and preferences, would gladly grab again.

Hope to get one more, truer to style and expectations, submission in yet tonight. But LOVED what I sampled today in the Chicago area today!

    Crooked Stave Biere de Garde

This is my final saison of the day - and it's not labeled a saison, so I'm lying. The brewer calls this their biere de garde. The label makes me feel like this is a heavy metal album that you'd have to be hip to actually know the name of the band.

This beer is the opposite of the New Belgium one that preceded it. Where that one was rounded, this one is sharp city... but I don't like it much more though. It's mahogany brown. There's a lot of acid here. Reminds me of stomach acid. The acidity makes this a sipper rather than inviting me to take a gulp. There's a decent amount of dark fruit flavor. The whole thing makes me think of an earthy sour raspberry jam without any sweetener added.

Not a beer that I can click with.
