I love this paragraph. This man Gets It.

Looking forward to trying your beers.

This may be the single best thing a brewer has ever posted on BA, and also why the PNW beer culture is the best beer culture.

It's a sentiment I thought about yesterday at the Farmhouse Ale event at Saraveza. I got there a bit before 1:30, expecting and hoping to grab a few bottles of the dG nectar cuvee (this year's festival cuvee). The manager mentioned that there was a huge line waiting at the door when the doors opened (at noon), just to buy up as much of that beer as possible. He indicated that it sold out quickly, but that the crowd waiting to get bottles also caused a considerable mess for folks who were there just to attend the festival.

I didn't see one person with a bottle at the event, so I'm assuming that most everyone who came to grab as much of the cuvee as possible, bought their festival ticket (if they hadn't already purchased it online), bought as many bottles as possible, and then went home.

The "rotten piece of psychic meat" comment seemed particularly appropriate, as I know the experience at Saraveza yesterday definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

I think this is the thing about this region. We talk like this 'rotten psychic meat' doesn't exist around here. It absolutely does. Just like the rest of the country. The big difference is that the broader we don't value nor encourage it, and there is a strong push back AGAINST that type of mentality that seems to be more lacking in other regions. We can get pretty circle-jerkish about our lack of hype, even though there seems to be evidence to the contrary, but the fact that we actively value something perpendicular to that hypebeast/line-culture/max-valuation mess that our dear hobby seems to have devolved into, and specifically the level of pushback that culture receives seems to be unique to the region (and yet another reason I love living out here and am proud to claim it as home). Other regions have those who are less enamoured of this pyschic meat, and we have our fair share of psychic-meat enablement, but at least we're trying, dammit!

Cracked my Field Blend - Blackberry tonight and damn, what a phenomenal beer. While I'm not sure how much the heaven hill barrels actually added, the balance of acidity and berry sharpness was masterful. I could slowly drink gallons of this beer on a warm summer evening.

It's funny because before going on fruit I worried the blend was too bourbon-forward. The fruit really masked the bourbon, but I still get a lot of vanilla, coconut, and toffee from it. The goal was to keep it integrated, so if it doesn't seem overpowering then that's what I was aiming for.

Does Floodland have a tap room? I'll be in town next weekend and would love to try some of their stuff.

Negative, and I don't believe there are plans to establish a taproom anytime soon. However, if there's any chance you can be in town on Mon, May 14th at 5pm, there's a Floodland event at The Masonry's Fremont location:

Thanks guys. I get into town on the 18th and may have to see if I can locate them anywhere. Any must hit spots for an NC guy besides Fremont and Holy Mountain? Sticking around til Tuesday

Check out the visiting Seattle thread.

Those two events will be the only chances you’ll have at Floodland unless you can arrange a trade with someone with bottles. No hyperbole.

Yeah, I saw the email pop up on my phone and by the time I got home to follow up (I hate using mobile for most things) it was sold out. C'est la vie. The few offerings of his I've had on tap have been really good, and I was looking forward to being able to explore them a little better out of the bottle, but there are worse things in the world than missing out on a beer release. Just have to try again next time.

I was on a plane when the email came; saw it on the tarmac, it came during the brief 15 minutes I didn't have service.

Checked out on my phone as we were taxiing lol
