Two brewpubs that come to mind that do a great job of integrating outside beers are Piece in Chicago and Trinity in Colorado Springs.

I never really saw it in VA (outside of special events) until I went to New Orleans (Courtyard brewing). I think it's a great idea. And Courtyard rules.

I like having guest taps offered at a brewpub. Would hope they would be rotating guests of friends or the brewpub's brewers' favorite or something. Prefer local or hard to get as others have mentioned.

I get people want the pub to make them all but you can only do so many that quality doesn't start to suffer. So a good number of in house offerings, say 8-12 including seasonals, and maybe 3-5 guest beers/ciders to offer some variety or showcase a new brewery the brewpub employees are liking.

    I like variety of course.

If it's a quality brewing place, and they have more than 12 taps, I can do without.
If the above is not true, then guest taps are much appreciated when certain beer types (that one might prefer) are not in the offing from the house.

In Michigan only Brewpubs, i.e. food establishments that also brew beer, can have guest taps. Microbrewers can have taprooms, but only sell their beers. Brewers ( Founders and Bells) can only sell their beer at their taprooms.

In some brewpubs you can see guest taps, others fill the taps with their own beers.

I know some brewpubs that should have nothing but guest beers on tap.....

I'm okay with guest taps at brewpubs, but 99.99% of the time I'll order in-house beers because those beers are usually my reason for visiting the place. I've visited over 500 breweries, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times that I ordered a guest beer.

Dang, you get around. I have some catching up to do. I've only been to a handful of breweries and no big ones. This june I'll be stopping by a few though:slight_smile:

I have no problem with it at all. I love going to the CBC Restaurant / Brewpub in Columbus and getting a flight that includes beers from several top-notch Ohio breweries.

Love it. There are some that I wouldn’t go to if they didn’t. Not because their beer is bad, but it’s average and it’s nice to have an outstanding option.

They are good. Sometimes near needed for allergy reasons (assuming you want inclusivity)

Well, I've seen it work both ways, and understand the reasons why a brewery might choose to have guest beers.

I however, don't like it. I go to a brewery to drink their brews, not somebody else's. I could just go to a bar and drink other beers. Do you go to a restaurant to eat a different chefs food?
