I have worked in Antarctica, didn't have access to any. The captain of the research vessel I was on brought on some Scotch from our departing point in Punta Arenas, Chili that he would share every once in a while, but that was it.

it was a joke about those that say their location is Antarctica, and talk about all the beers.

I got it, its also a thread talking about where people have traveled and their experiences with the beer selection.

I would imagine the middle east is probably the worst place in the world for beer. Judging by the OP's experience I would think I'm probably correct. Interesting that they still have beer despite their theocratic laws against it.

Although it certainly is not possibly the worst, and is improving to great degrees, I am still disappointed by the state of beer in New Hampshire. While VT, Maine, and Massachusetts have great craft beer scenes, my state is lagging behind if we are talking about selection variety at restaurants, bars, and stores. As said beside, though, that is improving, however. I wonder if the slow growth has something to do with InBev’s hold on the state because of their Merrimack plant...

According to John Denver it's almost heaven. I've been all over West Virginia and it's a cool place if you're paying attention.

When I went to Uganda I was shocked to find no NEIPAs. Only shitty lager. That must be an anomaly right? I imagine most countries have their neck beard / craft beer scene.

The worst has to be Bamberg Germany, all of the Smoked beer.

Another joke and some travel included. I will be back in Bamberg in August.

Russia's pretty bleak. Not much good beer, but they drink this strong clear stuff that makes them kinda crazy quite often.

I remember being in a supermarket in Ukraine with my friends dad about 20 years ago, buying some vodka to take back home

“You can either buy the cheap stuff” [points to bottles that translated to around 30-50 cents a bottle]

“Or the good stuff” [$3-4 a bottle]

My best friend spent two years in Siberia building scientific laboratories. His tales of the Russian mob, profligate imbibation, and beautiful landscape and women are unforgettable.

A buddy told me that during the first Gulf war his squad ran into a group of bedouins in the desert. No one in his squad spoke Arabic and none of the bedouins were any good with English. But as desert travelers have done for centuries they quickly figured out they each had stuff to trade. My buddy traded a MRE for a bottle of homemade moonshine. We have no idea what they made it from. They drank it and apparently everyone survived.

I personally think the worst beer scene is every brewery that still has a line for a can/bottle release every week.

I was thinking of posting the same thing. We had our honeymoon in Jamaica back in '05, and the only beer at the resort was Red Stripe. And Red Stripe is not a very good beer.

I remember being in Abu Dhabi last year and craving an IPA when I got home. All they had was lager!

I plan on visiting Jamaica hopefully in next few months, and I plan on seeking out Dragon Stout, just for a change of pace. Unsure if I'll be able to find it.
