As a fellow hip hop head I really enjoy the names of Monkish beers. Many are obscure references and you can tell whoever is doing the naming truly loves hip hop as well (especially the golden age).

If it's a dumb pun along the lines of "I love it when you call me Big Hoppa" then I totally agree with you though.

    *facepalm* delete this nephew...

On reviewing a new style to you like, say neipa, just how many times do you need to drink it to become an expert? 200? Just like riding a big bad rollercoaster, is a few times enough to know that it`s scary as he'll, or do you have to ride it a few hundred times ?. When is a noob not a noob?

As the late Robin Williams once said i think "biff, tad! BMW and a NEIPA quickly!"

I won't name names, and not sure how controversial this is, but it drives me up the wall that one certain BA writes almost every single review of an IPA with almost the exact same words in the exact same repetitive way. It's almost as though to this person every fucking IPA tastes exactly the same, and he tries to write it in such a way as it is as repetitive and useless a review as possible.

In this same vein, I find that the more descriptive a beer review is, the less helpful it is. Reviews that give in-depth descriptions of things like color and head retention and then use a bunch of other-food descriptors for aroma and taste are completely useless and tell me nothing. I don't need a literary approximation of drinking the beer (which is impossible, at least as attempted in most of the reviews on this site), I want to know if the person liked it, why or why not, and if there is anything in particular that stands out about it.

Pretty sure I know who you're talking about. And it's not just IPAs, it's every style. I scroll quickly past his loooong WBAYDN posts whenever encountered. He must cut and paste from a library of descriptors into all his new reviews. If not, and he's typing that stuff from scratch for every new review, he's got OCD issues.

Real talk. Not controversial, but true enough.

Rollercoaster experts, if there is such a thing, don't just ride one coaster and call it a life. To be an expert at anything you need to do it a lot and be good at it. Pretty simple, IMO.

When you stop asking this question, you won't be a noob any more.

Whew, it's not me!:sunglasses: I rarely WBAYDN, but otherwise, it coulda been me. I do tend to use a lot of the same words and phrases, but part of that is that I find so many beers to be so similar.

You? Dude, your reviews, and my also slightly repetitive reviews, are like the finest reviews known to man in comparison. I can tell you that I did a trade with this guy, and it was for all IPAs, and I think he left the same exact review for each one.

Haha, had the same thought. There are so many similar beers. You could read me a review of two hearted and jai alai from the same person and I imagine the two reviews would be quite similar. I do understand cavedaves point though, sometimes it's a little too repetitive.

It's the review equivalent of that guy who does ratings and rates every beer the same number. One day you will read a few of his reviews and you will remember these posts.

Rock Art Bohemian Pilsner. If I were to go to VT and only be allowed to drink two beers while there, that would be one of them.

I can't stand those types of reviews.. And I pretty much know who you're talking about as well. But I guess everybody has to have some type of fun with this hobby in their own way.

This Crisp is not a pilsner. It;s a good beer, but you really shouldn't put it against Pivo or Prima. It's far too American
