It's late morning in Europe, I'm still awake, and nobody had opened today's thread yet. So I'll go with something strong enough for a Saturday morning.

Cheers to the folks venturing to northern Indiana today. This song may not be what you'll hear, but it's what you'll feel like after a couple bands today.

    Cheers.

From late last night/early morning. It was a half-drainpour. Just too much alcohol flavor-wise. The nose is amazing but I just couldn't handle more than just a few sips.

Decent raspberry Sour. Could have done with just a little more sweetness to balance out the strong, acidic sourness, but still enjoyable.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Supposed to get some storms out there, so not much to do today. Will probably make another beer store run like last week.

Fantastic pale ale! Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate honey, toasted biscuit, light nutty/caramel malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Some resins and increasing dryness, no hop astringency. Refreshingly drinkable, never overly aggressive, 5.5%. Wow, such a killer APA. Outstandingly vibrant, juicy, and dank Citra hop complexity; nice solid bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. Will be keeping this around a lot. I'd say I'd prefer it over Jai Alai, but love both.

Had another one of these hiding in the cellar from 2016. This is tasting great, but still a bit too bitter. Flavors of big nutty dark roasted coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, cream, cool mint, toasted dark bread, light char, and herbal hop/mint earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char and mint/herbal hop bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied creamy/silky; some chalky roast and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter hop/char dryness. Mild acrid/astringency. Zero warming 10%. None of the variations seem to measure up to the base beer, but are still delicious. Have yet to try peanut butter, but will do it soon. I always like to age them first, they all seem to be too bitter fresh(including the base beer).

Fantastic DIPA! Amazing head retention and thick lasting lacing on the glass. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and pine hops; with moderate honey, bread dough, biscuity malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced bready/grainy creaminess and sticky/resinous/rind hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin/rind dryness, minimal hop astringency. Minimal warming 8%. Classic as hell West Coast DIPA. Very bright and dank Columbus, Centennial, Simcoe hops; with a solid bready malt backbone. Aggressive, yet easy drinking. The C/Simcoe hop combo continues to be one of the best. Glad these are in cans now. Hope they stay freshly available.

Been a while since I last had this. This is a great doppel schwarz. Flavors of big chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with light notes of coffee, dark fruit, smoke, and herbal hops. Light herbal/roast bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; creamy/bready malts; slight chalky roast and oak tannins. Light bitter roast and oak tannin dryness. Very drinkable, zero warming 8.5% or barrel booze. Very clean lagering. Not quite as impressive as I remember, but a spot on style example. A bit lighter bodied, but otherwise delicious.

A great way to stat the day . . .

Deep red brown color leaning toward dark garnet with slightly off white cap and lacing.

Rich scent of dark malt, ripe black figs, something like cola and dark yeasty bread.

Flavor is a complex mixture of the scents with all combining into a seamless whole. I do not really notice alcohol or hops except a slight hoppy bite in the finish and aftertaste. A touch of roasted chestnuts as well.

Last year around this time I was on my way to Dark Lord Day. This year, I am at home and hoping my friend picking up my allotment gets a good variant. This one is in your honor, Pat.

I am trying Black Imperial Stout from Mikkeler, brewing outsourced to a Belgian brewery, ABV 15.10%. The flavor is roasted malts, licorice, a lot of licorice, it's very sweet and there's bitter dark chocolate, alcohol, it's a bit medicinal, and then comes an overpowering bitter coffee flavor. It is full and thick like oil. The flavor is rich and complex, it could have been really great if it wasn't for the very strong and very long lasting coffee bitterness. It is by far the most bitter stout I've ever tasted and also by far the most bitter beer I've ever had. The mix of flavors is great and unique, but it is just too much and it ends up not tasting good.

Good morning North America-inhabiting BAs and Good Afternoon to our Euro-inhabiting BAs! It's starting out as an overcast morning here in NW PA (as usual). I've been watching my turtles engage in their morning sumo wrestling for control of their dock - today the underdog won the first three matches. Currently no one is on the dock so no dominance/submission contests among the reptilian brothers - they're all from the same clutch of eggs. Today's New Breakfast Beer was a pleasant surprise from Southern Tier:

Checking in early. The race I was supposed to support and photograph my team at got cancelled, so I slept in, which is rare. All that's on the agenda today is to book a couple more flights and pack for work travel next week. Figured it's time for a beer, and a beer that is largely responsible for getting me into craft beer.

Beautiful morning on Beaver Pond. Finished all my chores...time to kick back with a lite beer on the back porch:

Hope to do more exploring today, grab some more Maine beers to try, and maybe hit up a brewery or pub this afternoon before the rains set in...have a great Saturday y’all!

Very much needed right now. I slept until 9:15 this morning which is the latest I’ve slept in forever. I don’t know if it was the lack of sleep or the beer (or both) but I got pretty shitty last night. I didn’t even remember my WBAYDN post from last night, haha. I’m not hungover but this stout is perfect right now.
