Dark Lord (2018)

for sure. @eppie82 def had a review. I had a rating (along with 20 or so others). hopefully they get this sorted out because I had ratings for both 2017 & 2018 chemtrail. but what is the process now?

 

Just start choosing the most highly rated beers that aren’t dark lord, and give them one star reviews.

it's not about protecting trade value. I rate them how I drink them. if I think a beer is crap & I'm looking to trade it (BA vanilla caviar) I rate it as such. if I don't have a beer I think is great (Chemtrail) I rate it as such. even if I'm trying to get one (again, Chemtrail).

 

I love Chemtrailmix this year. Probably one of the best beers I’ve had, period. Blew away my expectations, and they were already quite high based on how good ‘17 version was. I didn’t have Handjee this year yet (got that as the variant bottle), but I did have Handjee ‘17 the night before DLD and I’m not sure that I wouldn’t pick Chemtrailmix over it. Congrats to people that got Chemtrailmix this year.

 

Don’t know if anyone else had this experience but we wanted BA Vanilla Moloko, and after about 15 minutes of waiting and not moving it turned out people in front of us were waiting for the next DL variant tapping instead...we walked down the line asking if people wanted Moloko and only a few people did so we mostly walked to the front. A second time was getting Crack the Skye - long line, no one buying anything because everyone wanted the next DL variant so the lady pouring said we could walk right up!

 

Same for Brotilla and Hung Drawn towards the end of their tap times, walk right up because everyone in line was their for a future tap release.

 

Hell the very first tapping of Chem at Alpha hung on for too long, holding up Cavaleiro, while people were lined up the entire circumference of the staging area for the second tapping of Chem at Gumball. We had to beg people to go buy Chem to kick that keg at Alpha.

Anyway, I think people need to go in and report Other on some of the variants that they erroneously deleted this year and last year variants and hopefully they can restore them without us having to re-add and re-review them (the latter of which would likely be impossible at this point). I've already done this.

That reminds me. Those bags were super shitty. I watched one guys handles break and lose a couple DL bottles. When I was walking out I heard threads start to rip and I instantly sat down the bag to moved the bottles to my back pack. Tragedy avoided, but be ware the Dark Lord may come for you in many ways. Hope to see you guys next year.

Chemtrail was really nice but I ended up trading mine away for Hung Drawn N Quartered. Had them both on draft and Chemtrail had so much cinnamon this year it felt like I was drinking sand paper. Dont get me wrong it's fantastic but I tried '17 as well and thought '17 was much better.

Also my roommate who has been my DLD buddy the last two years but didnt come this year. I'm gonna open my variant with him in a few weeks for his birthday and he's had chemtrail so I wanted him to try HDNQ. Neither of us have ever even had BADL and to me it doesnt get much better than a straight up stout + barrel so HDNQ it had to be

 

All about those different palates and that's all good. I'm not the biggest cinnamon fan but I really like Chemtrailmix '18. I ended up going to FFF this past Monday and had 4 more pours of it! I also had the Hung Drawn N Quartered at DLD and liked that one a good bit as well. Nothing wrong with well done straight up BA imperial stouts. I just remember it being a bit sweeter than I expected (go figure, especially with how much I like Chemtrailmix). But both were really good and I wouldn't have been disappointed with getting either really.

 

I remember seeing your posts on untappd.. More jealous I could not be.. I'm over here trying to trade my car for a Chem

 

I heard it is the best variant, and that someone is quietly trading/buying all of it, so that the secret never gets out. If you have it, drink it soon or keep it well-hidden.

Mine is under my mattress, with all of my money.

Haha, yeah, I couldn't stop myself. Ended up getting pours until it kicked and then I switched to FVM '18 (which I will say I liked a lot more than FVM '17... never had the FVM 16 though. I thought that FVM 18 had a good bit of coffee forward nose and flavor, and a nice vanilla coming in at the end.)

They merged the two into one Chemtrailmix beer. I'd reviewed the 2018 version and it's in the overall chemtrailmix beer.

FWIW, that to me is how I'd prefer it, the untappd comment summarizes my thoughts; basically, I like the lists. Reasonable minds can differ, I see reasons why the other way could be preferable. Note the FVM's are all still different.

Did this exactly. We were waiting for 5PM Handjee tapping, and one of us went up and got a few pours of the BBAV Moloko. Alot of vanilla was consumed in about 45 minutes.

This general thing also happened a couple other times throughout the festival. We got through the entry gate at about 9:50AM, and there was a huge line for the 10AM Chemtrailmix. We were hoping to hit that, but aborted (dragon-style) and went to go wait for the Cavaleiro. At 10, the line didn't start moving, and someone got on a megaphone and said "we can't tap this until the Chemtrail is kicked". So while there was a giant line waiting for Chemtrail at the other line, they couldn't kick the keg of the same beer 100 yards away. You have to love Dark Lord Day!

I didn't love Chemtrail. It was good but was also a complete cinnamon bomb to me, and I don't particularly like cinnamon in beer. I traded mine at DLD for the BA Henna rainbow. With a few days hindsight, looks like I could have gotten more, but I got a beer I didn't have and want to try.

Edit: apparently I could have traded it for a new car. Crap!

I very often report duplicate beers that need to be merged, but these were not duplicate beers. I had reviewed 2017 Chem last year, and as such, my 2018 review is not gone because you can't merge two unique reviews without deleting one. They are different beers due to being aged in a completely different barrel.

Your noting that the FVMs still exist appears to be an anomaly with the way they deleted things yesterday. It's the norm historically on BA where the recipe or barrel changes significantly that a new entry is made.

They deleted multiple beers yesterday, some accurately because some noob went through and added a whole bunch of unnecessary duplicates, but the 2018 Chem and 2017 Ronaldo should have remained since they are unique variations on the original entries. I've created a thread on the website forum so hopefully that gets some eyeballs.

 

Not a chance! haha... At least you traded me that BAA, so I don't feel so bad about not having my own Chem.
