    On to another new beer.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass. Ghost cookies!

Pale tan to a khaki colored head, of a solid three fingers, and a good forming cascading action into the glass. Quite dark, almost looking more Oatmeal stout in character than brown, with a nearly black and opaque body. Quite a nice looking brew.

Aroma is just gang busters on the money. Smells exactly like an oatmeal raisin cookie. More touches of winter warmer like spices on the nose, but with a good cherry to raisin fruit quality. Touches a little chewy roast and touches of vanilla as well. Real impressive smelling brew.

Impression just keeps getting better. Definitely feeling on the palate more brown ale than oatmeal, but touches both with some impressive other character. Creamy but milky almost lactose sensing body and flavors. Spicy winter warmer like qualities and chewy malt mixing in with raisins and cinnamon. Finishes creamy vanilla with a cookie softness, and a light malt richness somewhere between porter and creamy English yeast qualities.

Ah ha, definitely lactose added, making for a real rich and crafted brewing pleasure. They hit it real nicely on this one.

G' afternoon NBS-ers! A pretty dreary day here today, but thankfully we aren't getting the amount of rain we were supposed to.
Today I'm drinking a beer sent to me by @foundersasap in the last NBA BIF round.
    Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere
    [IMG]

Poured from a 375ml bottle into a Brew Hub Belgian snifter.

Appearance: Pale golden body with a soap bubble head.

Aroma: Apple, lemon some funk and greatness on the nose.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Tart crisp green apple, lemon and funk. Light and dry mouthfeel with an easy drinkability.

Overall: A light and refreshing farmhouse ale. Would definitely give this one another try in the future.

    Cheers!

My next beer is from local Ale Asylum, The Hopalicious Continuum: Mosaic.

It pours a deep, dark golden color with a 2 finger white head and some nice lacing on the glass. Definitely Mosaic hops with a heavy does of ripe pineapple, passionfruit, and tropical, dank notes. Taste follows the aromas and offers a bounty of tropical flavors along with some sweet malt notes. Nice and clean with moderate carbonation and a dry finish. The Mosaic hops worked very well in the Hopalicious APA.

Apologies for not being here since February. My computer crashed and I had to replace the hard drive, only got that fixed about a week ago. Then I needed to reset my password on here, soooooooo....well, all's well now, finally.

With that in mind, 60 degree temps here in Northern VT, well, I figured I could go at something that is new to me and with the ooooooooomph I'm looking for.

The summary: Aromas of sweet and smoky malts spicy oak barrel, smooth caramel malts, earthiness, burnt coffee beans, light floral character meld together to thresh upon a nurtured sweet and smooth flavor then add some dark chocolate for some bitterness. Really nice caramel to earthy and woody aftertaste. To me, I thought the carbonation was a touch bit more than expected, but I wasn't bothered by that too much. Just when most people thought Backwoods Bastard was the end all and be all of barrel aged Wee Heavies, just wait til you grab a bottle of this.

Man Hands, a collaboration between Sand City and Barrage. Pours a hazy dark yellow with a one inch fluffy white head that was well retained and left lots of lacing. Smells of citrus fruits, pine and some tropical notes. Tastes of bitter oranges, orange peel, pine, grapefruit and a bit of under ripe pineapple. Medium bodied and carbonated, slightly bitter and lingering dry finish. All in all an excellent brew.

Cheers you all ! I'm back with my original dish and pairing for New Beer Sunday. I am calling this my Additional Chili. I used my own home made chili powder, cumin, caraway, celery seed and a pinch of cloves. Then to top the chili instead of picante or cheddar cheese I used creme fraiche and some sage leaves that I fried in cumin scented oil drizzled with honey and lime juice, salt and pepper. This was a terrific pairing with crooked staves colorado wild sage saison with brett. Trust me . It really was.

Checking in with something I brought back from some work travel. This is the first of the bunch.

    Modern Time's Orderville.

Pours an opaque, glowing orange with a finger of white head that bubbles up well. Good retention. Aroma hits tropical fruits up front with papaya and mango. Orange zest is present as well. Biscuit and doughy malts firm up the aroma a bit. Flavor profile is deep rooted in tropical fruits, with papaya and mango. Orange and lemon zest spice things up a bit. Biscuit malts give a doughy background. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a velvety, chalky feel. Overall, huge notes of tropical fruits which absolutely run the show. It's a bit one dimensional, but well done otherwise.

So glad I finally got to capitalize on some work travel and bring home some beer! Got much more to share too!

I work for a Swedish company and over the past few months we have had some Swedes installing/training us on some new machines. They are craft beers fans so I have been sharing some American beers with them. They were in town for a few days last week and brought a few beers my way. Today will mostly be a New Beer from Sweden day for me.
First up is an oat stout

Pours black with khaki head, lots of lacing left behind.
Smell is dark roasted malts and some coffee.
Taste is dark roast, some coffee, dark chocolate, and a bit of bitter citrus.
Full bodied smooth feel. A bit of prickle on the tongue.
Overall a pretty tasty brew. If I ever make to Sweden I'll have to look for more.

L - 3-finger offwhite fizzy head atop a translucent orange body.

S - candied citrus, pine, a bit of herbal, gym socks.

T - strange. Oranges that have been stuffed inside a sweaty sock and hung on the mantle to appease an elderly fat man that never comes. Piney middle, with some cheese and herb. Mild bitterness, no sweetness, mild booziness.

F - medium body and carb.

O - dig the can art, but I’m 0/2 now on these KCBC IPAs. They have a strange (off) cheesy taste to them that leave you not wanting another.

Good afternoon all! It's a steamy weekend here in the Great Beer State, so I was up early this morning working in the yard. After spreading 100 bags of mulch and trimming some trees, I was ready to be rewarded.

This fruited Berliner that @Yabey sent me in the Can Can BIF was perfect for the occasion:

Drone Thugs-N-Harmony from Hidden Springs Ale Works in Tampa, FL.

It poured clear (that's condensation on the glass), with a thin fluffy white head. The nose is all fruit (passionfruit and hibiscus are the adjuncts here). This Berliner is on point: tart and clean. The perfect pick me up to my sweaty mess of a self.

I had never heard of this brewery before Alejandro sent me a couple of their Berliners, but they were both very good!

    Other Half DDH Mylar Daydream

Another new beer from @CanConPhilly. Mylar Daydream pours a cloudy light orange with two fingers of somewhat airy, yellow-tinted head. It leaves spotty, soapy lacing.

Light green herbs -- maybe cilantro and others -- are layered with some fresh-cut grass and lime on top of a muted base of tropical fruit and orange juice in the nose.

Like the DDH Broccoli, it's a little more delicate tasting than expected, but the depth of flavors grew as it warmed. The herbs, grass and citrus again stand out the most. Whatever other fruit is behind those, as well as a a touch of malty nuttiness. There's no bitterness to speak of, but it's in no way overly sweet either. An herbal pepperiness lingers with some orange in the aftertaste.

It has a nice, creamy-slick feel with some great carbonation cutting through.

This is really tasty stuff, and a real pleasure to try. Thanks again, Matt. I definitely owe you some beer.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, New Beer Samplers and commentators. Let me first honor those who have lost loved ones defending our country. We're all blessed for their service and sacrifice!

Mrs. Mac and I are down the Shore this weekend so I'm drinking lots of South Jersey beers. It's often said that, considering its small size, New Jersey is really two distinct states. And in many ways that is true. The local breweries down here don't distro much to North Jersey so it's always fun to sample the local wares, which is now much easier because many brewers are canning. Cape May Brewing is one of the flagships in this part of the state. They are well known for brewing Wild Ales and barrel-aged sours, along with several well-crafted IPAs and DIPAs. Corrosion is a "kettle-soured IPA," and drinks like a cross between a Berliner Weiss and an IPA. The smell is a little disappointing but there's lots of flavor and it's really a pleasure to drink. Here's my review:

    4.1/5 rDev +1.5%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Poured from an undated 16 oz. can into Cape May pint glass. The can release was in mid-March so it's getting close to two months old. It pours a hazy, golden-orange with a thin, ecru-colored head that dissipated almost immediately leaving a thin sheen of creamy lacing. The nose is rather subdued with lemon peel, light tangerine, a touch of caramel malt, and subtle floral hops. The taste is quite unusual: it opens with sour lemon and lime but with a dose of fairly bitter hops. Unfortunately, Cape May hasn't listed the hop bill on the can or its website. Then, there is an unexpected cracker taste. It finishes with the sour citrus and bitter hops battling for supremacy. It features a surprisingly full, creamy mouth feel with pleasant carbonation, and the 6.5% ABV gives it substance without distracting. A second pour is not a problem. Overall, this brew is something between a Berliner Weiss and an IPA. I was a bit skeptical at first - particularly with the subdued nose - but it really works. This would make an excellent summer beach beer and would accompany a burger or grilled sausage nicely.

I hope you're all enjoying your new beers today. The reviews are great! I'll be back soon with another local new beer.

Hello NBS! Thanks to @lordofthewiens for starting us off. Hope this weekend is going well for everyone. I have a bunch of new beers to drink and discuss today, and I should be able to fit them all in because I have tomorrow off...

First up is another new IPA from the small yet pretty-impressive Bunker Brewing Co. I reviewed their Terrarium IPA last weekend, and now I have a can of their double IPA, Don't Look Back, in my glass!

Pours kind of a medium-orange color with a rather unimpressive head. It starts out at a few fingers but thins out pretty quickly and leaves behind a smallish, retentive ring of bone-white foam. Drippy lace patterns form as I sip at this beer. Decent legs from what I can tell. Very lightly hazed surface.

The nose is candied citrus, light notes of guava and mango along with some melon-like fruit and semi-prominent yeasty esters. A bit of pineapple and maybe some passion fruit as well with a hint of ethanol to let you know this is 8%. Some honeyed maltiness, but not much in the way of actual "crystal malt" to my senses. This doesn't really jump out of my glass, but it's pretty well-balanced and pleasant smelling.

I did a little bit of research and found that this uses Mosaic, Idaho 7 and Citra hops along with Mosaic lupulin powder for dry-hopping in the fermenter. That explains why this kind of reminds me of a less-intense version of Castle Island's Hi-Def. I like this newer breed of DIPA that doesn't really fit into the NEIPA mold (while still being both new-school in hop varietals/hop techniques and made in New England proper), so I'm excited to see where this goes on the tongue. I get a little bit of the weird, lemony black tea-like flavor that I7 hops can provide, but I also pick up a bunch of tangerine and orange marmalade, floral/honey-like flavors and tropical fruit salad. Mango, papaya and passion fruit are pretty pronounced here. A somewhat prickly and forward alcohol note crowds the palate toward the finish, though luckily the feel is more effervescent and less syrupy than I expected from the nose. Probably a good thing this wasn't pushed any further than 8%. Firm bitterness with lingering aspects of pine, spruce and white pepper on the back of the tongue, with more grapefruit, tangerine and oily grassiness following up. Tasty stuff. I think it might need to be a little more dialed-in to give it more aroma. Not sure I'm huge on the Mosaic here, but I7 does its weird little thing and Citra provides some nice counterbalance in keeping this firmly lodged in the realm of relative normalcy.

A bunch more where that came from. A large format flavored stout, two different fruit Berliners from the same brewery (along with a likely blending experiment for funsies), and two new and dissimilar beers from a new, local brewery that has been pretty good to me so far. This Bunker DIPA is the strongest beer I'll have today, luckily. :stuck_out_tongue:

Very nice English porter. Great head retention and dense foamy lacing on the glass. Flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of dark fruit, smoke, herbal/grassy hops, and yeast earthiness. Similar/muted aromas, a bit more fruity/yeasty but not overwhelming. Light herbal/grassy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; very creamy/bready malt mouthfeel; light sticky hops and chalky roast. Lightly increasing lingering hop/roast bitter dryness. No acrid/astringent flavors. Very smooth, no warmth of 6%. Very flavorful for the ABV. Really spot on stuff. Nicely rich English dark/roast/bready malt complexity; light earthy hop balance, and restrained yeast fruitiness. Really delicious. 3.88
    [IMG]

#10.1 batch - simcoe edition. This was amazing! Awesome lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of huge tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate honey, wheat, white bread dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very minimal pine, herbal, grassy, zesty bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; creamy/silky/bready wheat/oat mouthfeel, with light hop stickiness. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. Insanely drinkable for 7%. Wellll holy crap! I have never even heard of Roughtail, got this as a gift beer this week. Super juicy/light dank simcoe hops, with perfect wheat/oat malty balance. Not overly sweet/heavy for the style. This is one of the best NEIPAs I've had! The simcoe hop showcase is beautiful. Canned in September, which shocked me too. Held up exceptionally! 4.38

New beer number 2 comes from @CheChe and the rediculous Jester King box he sent me in the Rookies BIF:

Jester King's Biere de Blanc du Bois, blend 4 (September 2017).

It pours pale yellow and clear. It appears very effervescent, with a ton of bubbles forming all over the glass and a frothy white head rising. The beer calms pretty quickly, and the head dissipates. The nose is sour funk, maybe a hint of barn and wood. More of the same on the palate, good pucker without a ton of acidity. Almost drinks like a funk wild golden ale had a bastard baby with a dry white table wine. A delicious bastard baby. Finish is tart and dirty. Really fun beer.
