This is a style of IPA getting a little bit of hype out on the west coast, basically referred to as 'hop champagne', low bitterness, super hoppy, almost no body, really bubbly, extra dry.
I saw Maplewood out here did one called Mega Dry, has anyone had it?
Seen any other spots around town doing one of these?

i saw it was on tap at beer temple this past weekend. i just had a pour at beer cellar in the burbs. Pretty darn good, although im not sure the version maplewood just made is too much different from their regular hazy beers. Its hazy, aromatic, light and fluffy. No noticeable uptick in carb from a normal IPA.

Was told pollyanna also made one that comes out this week.

I love the concept of dry, carbonated beer. Its almost like its an IPA

Ah ok, thanks for the feedback on the Maplewood one. I had a west coast one from Green Cheek and it wasn't really like a regular west coast IPA, but definitely more in vein with a west coast IPA, but it was really BONE DRY, not fluffy at all, basically no body whatsoever, no malt detection, but also zero bitterness but ultra bubbly (as you can see in the pic below, just non stop bubbles going in the glass), hopped to hell with citra:

I am curious how the Pollyana one will be and if other local breweries will be doing some of these. I found it quite interesting.

Little out of your area, but close enough to note. Triptych had this listed on their coming soon board. Think it was called Attenuation. Heard about this style fairly recently, so I'm curious to try. I'll report back.

At what point do people stop calling beer IPA?

cool, so so far it looks like we've got:
    Maplewood Mega Dry
    Pollyanna Champagne Breakfast
    Triptych Attenuation

Excited to try some of these if I can come across them.

Thats what I was hoping for. The Maplewood was nice. But I’m calling BS on them calling it a brut. They’ve got a lot of work to do. It’s still a New England style ipa to me. A nice one. But certainly failed to enter a new and unseen style here in Chicago

Had the Maplewood one yesterday. Definitely dry, and a decent IPA, but didn't really hit the style in terms of what I was expecting.

The best part of that post is that Black Acre's Natural Liberty is in the city! That is an amazing beer if anyone hasn't had it (IPL).

I mean, this is obviously an offshoot of IPA, though, so obviously they should call it an IPA. At what point do you stop calling offshoots of metal music, metal? At what point do you stop calling offshoots of punk, punk? When does Mexican fusion food stop being Mexican? That's what you might as well be asking.

That's not to say that part of it isn't marketing, though.

I know you're joking, but they are still technically metal. Just because something is perceived as bad does not mean it is not part of a given category that one may have respect for.

I've had 2 Brut style IPAs now. Triptych Attenuation: Look It Up and yesterday had Maplewood Mega Dry. I'll put the caveat out there that I have no prior experience to go off of here. So I don't really know what I should be looking for in trying these.

My experience was similar in both. Really nice nose, finishes crisp and clean, but little in the way of flavor. I assume this is the intention of the style? Overall I liked them, especially in the haze overload world I've been living in. Not blown away, but enjoyable.
