The 10th annual Denver Rare Beer Tasting will feature more than 60 of America's leading craft brewers pouring rare, exotic and vintage brews.

VIP (12-4 p.m./$175) tickets and General Admission (1-4 p.m./$125) tickets go on sale Father's Day, June 17th at 10 a.m. (MT). Admission price includes beer samples, tasting glass, program, t-shirt, buffet lunch, silent auction and the chance to win an exciting beer trip for two.

The event takes place on the Friday afternoon of the Great American Beer Festival weekend in the Mile High City.

Participating breweries and information on ticket sales will be announced shortly.

Question for those who have attended before, do you find it to be worth the price tag? Especially compared to other events like Firestone Walker Invitational, Extreme Beer Fest, Modern Times Fests, etc., I am in no way knocking the event as it looks awesome and is for a good cause.

Without a doubt, yes. Like FWI with 80% less people, and it isn’t 95 degrees

Full disclosure I am a volunteer, but I feel it's among the best beer festival events anywhere. Even if I wasn't volunteering I'd be there at all costs. It's worth every penny and you'll find very few other events where the staff is so dedicated to making attendees have a blast.

It's the least crowded event versus a super crowded GABF, very well run and for a good cause. I've been the last 3 years and will be attending again. Jump on tickets early as they usually go quick.

    Hmmm...I suppose it depends.
    Pros:
    - Great cause
    - Rare beer
    - Great food
    - Great people
    - Free blood check thingy (do this first!)

    Cons:
    - Rare doesn't always mean good
    - Long entry line usually means enter at 1:15 (or later)
    - Run outs. Two years ago some were out by 1:45, about half by 2:15
    - If you live in CO, then some beers won't seem that rare

Caveat: I did not attend last year. I think they addressed some of the cons.

Thanks for the kind words. Just a couple of points of clarification on what you said in the Cons area...

We have processed all 600 General Admission guests in 13-16 minutes in each of the last 3 years. We do everything possible to check IDs and wristband people in advance to keep the line moving safely. My observation from last year was that about the last 50 people in the line were not in line before the doors opened at 1 p.m. -- so they were not really waiting and joined the line after 1 p.m. and it was already moving.

Regarding the runouts, we monitor this VERY closely. Two years ago we had around 10 brewers run out by 2 p.m., so last year we put in place a "Bullpen Brewery" system with 10 brewers in reserve to fill the open slots. We rotated that beer in as soon as a slot opened. Last year the final Bullpen Beer was tapped at 2:30 p.m. That means that 48 of the initial 58 breweries were still pouring 2.5 hours after VIP doors opened and 90 minutes after GAs. We are going to use this system again this year. And there is always great beer being poured on both floors of the event when last call takes place and we close the doors at 4 p.m.

Very interesting to see Werk Force on there. Do you know some of them personally? I’m from that area and just curious what the relationship is there.

Each year we invite new breweries to the event. Our attendees love to try beers from quality producers that they cannot find where they live, so we take recommendations each year on brewers that we should add to the event. Werk Force was recommended to us and they brew highly regarded beers that fit the profile of rare beers we know fans of the Denver Rare Beer Tasting have enjoyed over the years. It is difficult to sort through the 6,500+ breweries in the U.S. today to find the right mix of fan favorites and new breweries to introduce at our event.

Wood Boss who is brand new and I wouldn't say they are making anything "rare" (Good beer but nothing rare?) gets invited but no Wiley Roots?
They are making some of the best beer in the state and not including them is a crying shame.

That’s not the final list. He clearly stated in the post right above yours that “we expect to be adding additional breweries during the next several days.” Doesn’t mean that Wiley will be on the final list of breweries but it’s a little premature to be jumping all over them about it.

Some of the smaller/newer places have beers that they made just for the event, too. There's a shot Woods Boss (and similar places) made a DRBT exclusive.
It's true that a few places have tried to phone it in before, but they usually change their tune when people call them out on it. Cough cough, Odell
Sometimes the beers that carry big hype deliver (like BA Sump and the FW sours), but I find that most of the seriously rare beers are outperformed by stuff you might not know. There are only just so many big stouts I can give a damn about, too.

First of all BA Sump was seriously one of the best beers I’ve ever had... second- don’t forget NB when clearing your throat.
