    Good evening, NBS fam -

Regrettably, I am on a bit of a "break" from beer at the moment, so I have no new beer to share with you all - but I decided that it's Sunday, fuck it, I've been working hard all day, I deserve some kind of drink. And I was craving coconut, so...

At least it's in a beer glass, right? I found myself with only a bit of Jamaican rum, thus the slightly off color. I can assure you, it tastes just dandy!

So... why the "break" from beer? I'm finding myself where I'm sure lots of us have been before - I'm putting on a lot more weight than I'm comfortable with. Still feeling in decent shape, but the gut is getting embarrassing. And I still haven't given up hope on meeting a nice woman one of these days, so I should probably take care of that... I started running and lifting weights again about a week ago (and CHRIST are my shins and feet killing me), and I haven't had a beer since Tuesday (May 29th), so I'm feeling pretty decent. Already down significantly (6-7 lbs) with probably another 5 lbs or so that I'd like to drop. Goals, am I right?

On other personal items, I elected to skip a heavily hyped beer release yesterday (kicking myself now... said beer has traded 1:1 for Handjee several times already) and checked out a sort of local cave system with my sisters. Mystery Cave is in Forestville, Minnesota, and the tours are pretty excellent. I'll enclose some pictures below, and close here. Hope you all have had a great week, and enjoy next week as well!

NBS! I usually never drink on planes given the lack of selection and high prices. But when it’s a beer exclusive to the airline and a special release for the launch of the plane you’re on... I had to give this IPA (Icelandair Pale Ale) a try! Brewed for the Boeing 737 MAX and go figure 7.37%

Overall a solid IPA, brewed by Boyne in Ireland. West-coast style with orange/grapefruit, grass/herbs and caramel/malt. I’ve heard tastebuds are impaired at altitude so maybe not as descriptive as normal... I’ll get the beer added to the site and full review up when I’m not fighting autocorrect on my phone. Cheers!

Love those cave shots- especially that second one of the water- it's almost too clear...

Thanks for checking in, and best wishes on those goals!

    Hello fellow NBSrs!

I apologize for my recent lack of activity but life has gotten in the way BIG time and will continue on without mercy for some time.

Anywho I promised @2beerdogs tgat I’d be bac today and here I am.

I’m sipping on a Sour Note (18th st) peach gose. I will not officially review as I’ve been sucking on remodeling dust all day unfortunately.

Appearance is a slightly cloudy light Apple juice color.

Aroma is tart peaches and light salinity .

Taste follows nose to a tee.

Feel is crisp, slightly dry and refreshing af...especially today.

Overall a great gose that is hovering around the 4-4.25 rating in my book.

Cheers all! And hope you are enjoying your Sunday!

Now something for science!! Only Void Retrospective and Triple Milkshake IPA - Extra Vanilla Black and Tan!!
Awesome blend, the Only Void’s smokiness really stands out, the hops and the fruits work really together, the hops add a real nice touch and it has a great vanilla flavor.

I love your dialogue. It is a great voice and obviously you. My bet is that you share these gorgeous ruminations with other than us. You are a fun writer to read!

Randomly stumbled across that and needed to buy one. Was hoping to save it for when the new season comes on. When the fuck is that?

    Thank you, Michael!

I believe it's called the Turquoise Lake? It's so deceptive because apparently that water is 12 feet deep. 12 feet! Does it look that deep in the photo? - because it sure didn't in person!

All of the standing pools were amazingly clear and beautiful. It's one of several reasons that I really like caves. They're also distractingly quiet. I mean, you'll hear lots of water dripping... but that's it. Nothing else. I love that - who ever thought that silence could be distracting?

Why is Schlitz so hard to find? I went to a grocery store that has Milwaukee's best cases in the fridge ffs.

Good evening, NBS nation. What an awesome day here inthe kingdom. Low humidity and it actually feels cold now with the sundown. Actually while working the grill I donned a jacket. Lots of garden work done today, now just hope the deer leave thing alone or things at least grow faster than they eat.

The name of this beer seems appropriate given yesterday's theme in the daily thread:

Shaidzon Beer Company Return of the Sun, Belgian style quad, purchased at the brewery last Saturday, last if two, no bottle date. The color is almost aglow. Maybe a bit light for the style, but definitely has some reddish hues going on. The head is more like the leftmost glass in the real world. The smell is weak, no other way to say it. There isn't much inspiration to be found on the nose. Hmmm... The taste is mildly sweet, somewhat boozy, decent bitterness, but the only hint of fruitiness is a vaguely wine-like taste. Not getting the dark fruits experienced with other quads. There is a little banana and a bit of clove on the finish. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, although the beer clings like honey to the glass. I think this is a quad that doesn't have quite enough quadness. That said, I actually like it, but I am definitely going to have a huge negative deviation on this beer. I am thinking 3.75, maybe 3.8 tops.

If I have some bourbon around that would have been the perfect touch, still great without it!

    Now, here 'tis:

Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a slightly hazy, light golden body with some lacing. Nose of slight funk, grapefruit, and slight lemon and lime. Taste mirrors nose very nicely with a wonderful tartness that is near perfect. Nice feel for the style and overall, I think they need to make this again and ship to the states as this was a brewery only release. Cheers!

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @cjgiant for getting us underway this day.

Today I'm sunburned as hell after spending most of yesterday working the annual Neighbor Day event at Felts Field. It's a fly-in/air show put on at the older and smaller of Spokane's two airports. Each year a couple WW2ish era planes turn up. This year there were three: a DC-3, a P-51 and a TBF Avenger. It wasn't hugely hot (low-80s), but because in years past my bosses provided sun block I didn't bring any. This year they did not, and the spray-on stuff one of my co-workers brought was totally inadequate. I was wearing jeans, but my arms, face and neck are painfully red.

I didn't do much beer drinking during the week, so it's been a full 7 days since my last new beer. Today I think I'm polishing off the last beer from @beerloserLI that I received from him for the most recent NBS BIF.

Really, really liked this beer. One of my favorite hazy IPAs I've had. Just superbly balanced.

    Good evening NBS
Long day at work and now getting to try a new beer...
    The review:
16oz canned 4/20/2018 (44 days ago) poured into a willibecher glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on can. The beer pours bright golden straw yellow with a little off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and paper thin island with a trace of lacing. The aroma is mostly yeasty with a hint of pils malt. The taste is initially soft and pilsner like but the back end has AAL traits like a gentle tartness and suggestions of corn. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. There is a subtle butter character to the finish, more so in feel than taste. Overall, below average as a German Pilsner. This is a very nice, tasty and fairly clean American lager although I will score as a pilsner. Recommended as a food beer or session beer when you're more concerned with conversation than what is in your glass.

I stand by my review. I just looked at the Yuengling website and they don't mention the malt bill. They do list Saaz & Hallertau hops, which I did not detect without the hint. I would have scored this higher as an AAL, but those are just numbers. I find this beer more engaging than others I've had from Yuengling.

Cheers all and enjoy what's in your glass!

Hi everyone. Hope you’re all having a nice day. Got really cool here after the sun went down, supposed to be 50 and rainy for a few days.

Having a few new brews tonight provided by @WesMantooth . Thanks Corey!
    First one
    [IMG]
This one pours as a yellow straw haze, thin cap of foam settles into ring of bubbles circling the glass.

Aroma is juicy citrus, light, hint of toasty grains.

Flavor is soft, refreshing and smooth. Dry overall. Citrus and a light sweetness. Tropical fruits. Nice level of background grains keeps this balanced.

Light body, soft and crisp. Moderate carbonation.

Really nice brew, easy going for summer evenings.

[IMG] Canned 11/02/17 and poured near room temperature and weighing in at 14.8% ABV. Pours a very attractive slick black, with a 2 finger brown head, that leaves very little lace behind but beers this size sometimes struggle to cling to the glass, but it did have excellent retention. 4.5

Smell is expresso beans, deep dark chocolate, vanilla bean, toffee, pipe tobacco, and some alcohol is slightly noticeable. 4

Taste follows coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, a little smoked tobacco, and alcohol is definetly noticeable, but not overbearing. 4.25

Mouthfeel is bigger than most, moderate life as you would expect from a huge beer like this, definetly a tad dry, and at nearly 15% a sipper that goes down extremely easy. 4.25

Overall this is just a really special stout, I can’t thank @bstyle enough for this and so far the entire world class box. I would put this up against all the legends I have had.
