@bstyle doesn’t mess around with the boxes he sends. We have been trading beer for about 5 years now and he always hooks me!

Good evening NBSers! Tonight I'm having an imperial saison aged in red wine barrels with black currants, sent to me by @larryi86 in NBS BIF 7:

    Love Wishes by 2SP Brewing.

Pours the color of cranberry juice. A foamy pink head quickly forms and is retained for the duration of the glass. I got a strong burst of red wine upon cracking the bottle but the nose is dominated by the currants.

This is a fun beer. A big dirty saison is paired neatly with barrel, but they both fight with a delicate berry sweetness. Instead of meshing together, my palate is flipping back and forth between the beer's two personalities in a fun way. Interestingly, I'm not finding much of the red wine character.

Thank you Larry, I'm really enjoying working my way through this!

Glad you enjoyed. I really hope they brew it again since most of my bottles went out to other people!!

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

Here later than usual. I had my niece's birthday party earlier, her sweet 16, and my nephew's improv comedy graduation performance. Both were very fun events.

    Now on to the beer.

Lactose Panda from Hop & Barrel Brewing in Hudson, Wisconsin. It is a Milk Stout.

That being said, it isn't much of a Milk Stout, but more if an IPA. I really get a lot of hops in the beer, and very little lactose/chocolate. Not too impressive for the style.

    3.72/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

This beer pours a very dark brown color. The head is 2 finger, tan, and frothy. The retention is quite good, and there's some nice lacing on the glass.
The nose is rich with malts, and there's hints of chocolate and lactose.
The taste - is quite hoppy all around. There's just slight hints of chocolate.
The feel is moderate, and the hops do linger in the throat.
This is more of a IPA than a milk stout. For an IPA, it's good, but not very good as a milk stout.

I might have another beer after this, but I'll enjoy Redd Foxx some more first.

Good late evening, NBSers. Just getting to it . Busy day . (See below.)
Tonight's new beer is a collaboration* between Industrial Arts & Prison City.
Back before the Paste IPA win by Prison City, I saw one of their beers in the grocery store. :astonished:. Passed it by, as that wasn't the mission, and had never heard of them, but did take note. Plus I would be back that way later in the day, if the ol' monkey curiosity had to be satisfied. Later, when I got home, I checked them out on BA. Reviews were very positive, so I stopped at that store, a few hours later. GONE!, never to be seen again. Must have been a mistaken delivery. Since then , any tentative plans to stop at the brewery have been foiled by circumstance. Auburn is just not a convenient trip from here. Been hoping to try their offerings, and now it finally happens. :sunglasses:
    The beer :
This one gives a new-to-me beer flavor : bitter, unripe, apricot. Took some getting used to, but I'm warming to it.
It has most of the typical elements of a hazy NEIPA, except that the apricot/stone fruit element is more prominent than the citrus, & it is more bitter/less sweet. All-in-all, put another in the "win" column for both breweries. :beers:

That's the Susquehanna River in the background, & the northern reaches of the Keystone State beyond that.

Ok, since the last one tasted like an IPA, I thought an actual IPA would be in order.

    Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA.

Now this is an IPA. Nice citrus and pine. Works well together.

This beer pours a nice golden color with s 2 finger white head. The retention is average, and there's a bit of lacing on the glass as the head leaves.
The nose is quite nice in the hops department. Quite citrusy. Grapefruit, pineapple.
Taste - is an IPA. The hops really dominate with the citrus more up front and the pine taste on the backside.
Feel - Decent bodied, and the hops do linger in my throat.
Yes, this is a decent IPA.

Ok, I'm done for tonight. See you all next week in the next New Ber Sunday!!!

Welcome Back for the CANclusion of New CANned Beer Through Tavour Sunday (Week 693)!

It was a pretty successful day overall, IMHO. After I kicked things off with a pair of Odd13 BC beers, I wandered all over the place. I wanted to keep beers from the same brewery in CANsecutive reviews, but at the same time, I wanted to go in ascending order in terms of ABV. The latter CANsideration won the day, CANtinuing with:

before I took a break to go see a strange movie entitled "How to Talk to Girls at Parties".
I returned home to CANtinue with:

& after so many Ales, it just seemed somehow apropos to end with a Lager:

I ended the day on an up note, so it is with some sadness that I take my leave until next week. I am going to CANtinue winnowing my Tavour CANs over the course of this coming week, so keep an eye on WBAYDN for updates. I am as yet unsure of next week's theme, but you CAN bet that there will be one!

Hey! And I am popping in to say, "I'm reading, not drinking.":slight_frown:
But, thanks to Daniel @FFFjunkie , I did pop a solid bottle of Behemoth barleywine from 3F last night. So please consider this an early NBS contribution that's a little late.

Thanks to FFFjunkie for this Hoosier gem. 2017 release.
Pours a beautiful amber, holding a bit of golden sunset within. Frothy off-white head bounces 2+ fingers high before receding to a milky pond scum-(not in color)-like layer. Moderate lacing.
Smell begins with a complex waltz of caramel like sweetness and piney/citrusy/floral hops. A lot going on here. A bit of damp malt notes, reminds me of a cereal I liked as a kid, Buckwheats.
Tongue is working. Picking up an initial caramel meets bourbon sweetness that is instantly tamed by some floral citrus, earthy pine notes, and a hint of spice. Warming. Smooth date notes, rich and chewy. Medjool style. This seems to blur the line between a traditional English Barleywine and her 'Merican cousin. The hops really do tame the sweetness, and also add their own dimensions here. Smoothly and lightly boozy.
Mouthfeel is full enough for style. No shrinking violet here. Mild carbonation.
Overall, I like this a lot. Can't wait to try the BA version, (which he sent me also!!!)
That will be going down this summer. Thanks again, Dan!

A sentiment I can relate to. And one I likewise intended to work on. Same boat in that I t hasn't gotten completely out of hand, but I just don't like the feel of the stretch at this point. That is until #007 happened and between 'research' for Corey's boxes and the ridiculous amount of Michigan goodness that Brian sent along... let's just say the weather starting to turn nice, and thus being able (and willing) to ride my bike in to work has been my saving grace to this point. But I do need to get more proactive with it. Ironically the next step in my own plans involve getting a car again (so that I'm not reliant on planning hiking trips with other people and can just take off and spend a couple of days in the mountains whenever I have time off).
Anyway, cheers, and keep the momentum going! Willpower is your best friend, with support not too far behind. And as far as expanding the circle to another... if you can get yourself to a good point that's gonna be your best bet. Again, similar boats.

Thanks. This is one of the few venues where I have reached the point where I feel comfortable just kind of uncorking my lid and letting whatever runs out be. Where I feel I can really just be myself and not worry as much. One of the (many) reasons I love coming around. Normally I tend to overthink the hell out of everything and so don't give myself such free reign to babble. It's something I'm trying hard to work on (being ok with myself). I'm glad it's A: coherent enough at least, and B: enjoyable!
I feel like there are a number of fairly unique voices that tend to add their note to our collective choir, and it's another thing I love about this weekly gathering.
It's pretty much just here and at work, where I'm fortunate enough to work pediatrics so they mostly take my oddities the way kids do all things: in stride and with a certain amount of bemusement. I figure an eye roll from a 4 year old is about the best outcome I can imagine, so long as it ends up with a high five before I go. And if it helps them to deal with the scary realities of life and death, unpleasant procedures, and gross meds and their side effects... well that just seems like a perfect marriage of opportunity and outcome to me.

Just got to try the base Deth's Tar last night for the first time thanks to @FlintB and his NBS BIF#007 generosity that I may have made mention of once or twice. Quite tasty, and reasonably unique, but man oh man that 14.8% ends up dominating something fierce.
