Hi fellow BA'ers just curious if someone could give a quick explanation of the beer it forward premise and rules. I see a lot on here but usually it's rolling from the first post and seems no chance for a novice to jump in any help appreciated.
Basically just a bunch of folks sign up to be in a BIF together, all promising to send a certain amount of beer (usually there is a minimum, but for true newbie BIFs there might be a maximum), as well as (usually) a local food item and some swag from one of the breweries in the box. The idea for basically every BIF is to send local stuff that your receiver won't be able to get nearby. Of course not every beer in your box has to be from a hyped brewery, or even one that the receiver can't get (as an example, I sent with one of my boxes a bottle of Brooklyn Brewery's Black Chocolate Stout. Its pretty easy to get in most states, but it was an older bottle that I had been cellaring). beers from the receivers want list are of course always appreciated, local or not. Some BIFs have additional rules...a minimum number of ounces in cans, only beers rated above X, etc. Oh, and of course you won't be receiving your box from the same person you sent it to(like secret santa), though they might send you a revenge box depending on how good yours was (or if just ridiculously large). Everything has to be received by a date set at the beginning of the BIF Keep alerts on for the BIF forum, and you'll get an email anytime someone is opening up a new one. As a first timer, there are often a few extra rules. Good luck!!! P.S....this stuff gets crazy. you'll start getting whales and stuff you never knew existed but now wish you had way more of, as well as (sometimes) over 50 beers in one day.
The newbies thread has a ton of pages and that can look intimidating. However, we start new rounds of BIF’s all the time. We are currently in one right now, but the next one is not too far off. If you post in the thread you are interested, one of us will tag you when signups for the new round start.
I think I did that in the one thread guys seemed nice about it but thanks looking forward to trying it out
I found the Rookies BIF was a great introduction as it was pretty low volume and relaxed. Some of the other BIF's are pretty intimidating when looking through them. That said, everyone I've been in contact with through the BIF's has been nothing short of some of the nicest people I've met on the internet. The community is definitely a great reason to try one out.
This one. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/inaugural-rookie-bif-hints-and-hauls-thread.558197/
