Good morning North American BAs and good afternoon to our European-dwelling brethren! I haven't really looked outside yet but I suspect the day is starting off overcast and dingy - statistically most NW PA begin that way. Today's New Breakfast Beer, however, is one of the better entries into that catagory:

This is the base beer for yesterday's BBA abomination that became a drain pour. Of the three examples of Silver City Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy brews that have crossed my path, this one might be my favorite "drinking beer", based on enjoyment and price point.

Kelsen Brewing Co., Derry NH - Vendel Imperial Stout 9.4% and courtesy of @SawDog505 :

Big roast coffee and chocolate nose. Flavors follow with a dryish finish. Thin and drinks like an Imperial Porter. Nice roasty linger. Would definitely drink more of this beer...thanks again Tim for another great breakfast beer! Cheers and Happy Friday!

    It's not too late for a Maibock . . .

Hazy gold color of a deeper shade, white cap and lacing.

Deep, rich malty tones waif out of the glass. Hops are present but in a diminished form.

Taste is full. This is caramel malt in abundance. Very refreshing change from the herd of IPAs stamping around. Malt enters like a trumpet blast with hops from the string section joining in by mid palate and lasting through the finish. Hops bump up an octave in the finish leaving a lingering high note.

People usually make the morning "breakfast stout" in a mug joke, but I'm more of a Lunch for breakfast kind of guy. (I can't be the first to make that joke though) Cheers.

The weekend has arrived (at least here in Germany). This bottle is from 2014 - one that I brought with me from California. Incredible beer - probably my favorite non-BA stout. And it ages beautifully. Cheers!

Even better than the Maibock. All of these Spalter beers have been pretty nice, actually.

My wife had some foot surgery this morning, and I get to be her nurse. So far the patient is recovering nicely.

At fishin’ hole East, here on the farm, with a Tendril IPA from Proclamation Ale Company, Warwick, RI:

Beautiful sunny 70 degrees with a cool breeze. More bite in the IPA than in the pond, so far...Cheers from Marcellus NY!

RIP Anthony Bourdain. You grabbed life by the balls and still couldn't be happy. If you can count Joe Rogan and Barack Obama as friends and still not be happy what hope do the rest of us have? I think I overestimated how much food I can eat. Beer I found on clearance at the grocery store today for $2. I would never pay $5 for a 4% bomber. Probably why it's on clearance.
