It's so you can drink your milkshake and get sloshed at the same time.

"Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, it's a straw, you see? Watch it. Now my straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I... drink... your... milkshake. I drink it up!"

    Someone had to add this.

Still think that movie should have won the Oscar that year over No Country.

The OP was saying how great the Tree House anniversary party was while comparing it to a Beer Event like Green City (which was point 1 of my statement, that you can't compare a beer festival to a anniversary party) because you got a T Shirt and a Glass and a pour of Lights On for free. The second point I was making is that if we did compare it to another anniversary party (the Other Half one, which is the only one I have attended so it is the only thing I have to compare) that having free beer and food and raffles for 4-5 hours could be considered just as good.

And as far as the "selective crowd" each person got a plus 1 so you could bring someone else who may not have been selected. And if you weren't "selected" at all then you are in the same boat as not being "selected" by the Tree House party lottery.

Now I went to the party but even if I didn't i think objectively the overall parties themselves can be compared. That's all.

Then go to Friday's and order a Mudslide (with a 151 floater, natch). What's next, whipped cream on your Tired Hands? There's a line at noon at Trillium for their latest Lactose, Vanilla concoction (was just there). It's not that I don't think they should make them. It's that you ought to be embarrassed drinking it. Next time you have one, think of yourself on a pedal-start moped with a goofy helmet. That's you with a Lactose induced IPA.

I’m not sure that I totally get this? What’s wrong with lactose and/or vanilla in an IPA. Beside that they may be gimmicky and most of them aren’t even that good? How is it different than lactose/vanilla/adjuncts in a big stout? Everyone does those too. Should I feel like an idiot for drinking one of those? What about a fruited sour or a hazy IPA? Those are really popular and not always done well.

Agreed - this goes down a rabbit hole that is tough to turn around from. There are so many things done to beer now that aren't "traditional", so you just have to drink what you like. I haven't had many milkshake IPAs that I like (perhaps none), but that just means it's one less style of beer for me to go after...which is probably a good thing considering all the great beer out there.

Probably a dumb question - but is Treehouse ever open on sundays? I’m visiting in the fall from Ohio and my only opportunity to make it that way would be the early afternoon of 10/7 (Sunday).

Assuming the answer is no but it doesnt hurt to ask.
