I enjoy some ambers and bocks but prefer the non-hoppy/non-bitter variety.

Those that I can remember drinking & trying are Shiner Bock, Anita Amber, Newcastle, Samuel Smiths Nut Brown Ale, Negra Modelo.
I’ve also had Samuel Adams and Anvhor Steam but enjoy those less because of the bitter finish.

    Any new suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

Doppelbocks, as a style, might be up your alley. They tend towards the sweet side of amber, but might be a bit more sweet than you're looking. Paulaner Salvator is a solid choice.

Scottish style ales might similarly be something you'd enjoy. They can tend towards the darker side of amber, some of the Scotch ales even going fully brown and/or roasty. McEwans Scotch Ale is excellent if you can find it, Belhaven Scottish Ale is a staple of Scotland.

Red ales, a subset of Ambers, tend not to be hoppy, but often almost nutty instead. Lagerheads Bead Head Red is a lovely one.

Knowing where you are located would allow us to pinpoint available brands in your area.

As far as almost universally available non-hoppy Ambers, I generally go with Bell’s or Alaskan Amber.

Altbier is a definitely good place to start:

Where are you located? Don't need your address or anything but your state would help a lot.

Munich Dunkel lagers are malty and smooth with very little hop bitterness and are not as strong as bocks. Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel and Hofbräu Dunkel should be fairly easy to find.

English Milds are also great but should really be enjoyed on cask. I'm a big fan of Yards Brawler, which is along those lines.

Like others have said, it's tough to give you advice when we don't know where you are/what market you live in. Here are a few that are available in most states:

    Fat Tire (New Belgium)
    Boont Amber Ale (Anderson Valley)
    Full Sail Amber Ale
    Bell's Amber Ale

Most ambers are hoppy these days so if I were you I'd look for some Brown Ales or ESB(s)

I don't like most US versions of Ambers, but I love Weistephaners Dopple.

I'd go after anything labeled as an ESB. A lot of American breweries use the terms amber and ESB interchangeably for better or worse.

Brawlers a good beer, if it was here I’d buy it.

I dunno about that, at least if they're a 'proper' version. They're known for having a clean, Pale Ale level of bitterness which might not appeal to the op.

I am a fan of Yards ESA, but I wouldn't call it "non-hoppy". The OP noted that he/she wasn't a fan of the bitter finish of Boston Lager, which is only 30 IBU. Yards ESA is listed as 47 IBU.

Just a great beer that local places in my area keep on tap. Brawler is a great one, seek it out!

Thanks!! I appreciate the help from everyone.

Fully aware that I’m a complete weeny when it come to hoppy finishes.
    I’ve just never liked it:slight_smile:
I love a good beer but don’t care for the aftertaste of some of the hoppy variety. I’m living in the wrong age by the looks of the beer selection in the liquor store:slight_smile:

I wouldn’t call it non hoppy either, but it’s certinly not as hoppy as any PA.
