Well, it's around 5:30 in the morning on Father's Day, and my father used to do his first report on WGN 720AM radio about this time every day, so I thought I would check in. It's been four years since you left us, Larry, and plenty of people miss you, but nobody does as much as your sons. Cheers, and happy Father's Day to all the fathers not with us.

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Not much going on, another normal Sunday with bottle returns, laundry, and a grocery run later on. Maybe an oil change and a haircut are needed as well.

Amazing PB porter! Glad these are in cans now. Aromas and flavors of huge peanut butter, milk chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, toffee, vanilla, cream, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, dark fruit, and herbal hops. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finsh. Medium carbonation/body; very creamy/bready and fairly silky malt mouthfeel; light sticky hops and chalky roast. Lightly increasing lingering hop/roast bitter dryness. Very rich for 6.2%. Tons of PB and coffee flavor, with great balance of the base porter. Spot on style. Will be buying this a lot now for sure. Glad we get Hoppin' Frog in MI now. An old hometown favorite brewery for sure.

Rum Barrel edition. This was amazing! Awesome head retention and lacing for the ABV. Aromas and flavors of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, coconut, vanilla, cream, toffee, brown sugar, toasted oak, rum, maple, marshmallow, fudge, nuts, and brown bread; with light notes of coffee, raisin, fig, and herbal hops. Slight touch of booze in the aromas as it warmed. Light herbal/roast bitterness and rum/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carrbonation and full body; very creamy/silky malt mouthfeel; slight sticky hops, chalky roast, and oak tannins. Slightly increasing lingering bitter/tannin dryness. No cloying. Dangerously smooth sipping, mild warmth of 15%, zero barrel booze. Still think the base beer is best, but this was way better than the Scotch(which I still really enjoyed). Perfect integration of barrels, which complement the base beer perfectly. Extremely well balanced between rich malts, coconut/brown sugar, and barrels. Spot on porter style, and not overly roasty. Scotch BA edition was an onslaught of Laphroaig peat smoke/brine, that was a bit rough. This is way smoother. 4.38

Another bright sunny morning on the farm:

My Dad passed 10 years ago this month. I often think of him, especially when I’m in the woods or a country setting. He grew up in a very small town near Corning NY, and he was at greatest ease sitting on a hillside, quietly watching all there was to see and listening to all there was to hear...Happy Father’s Day BAs!

Amazing as always. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pepper/pine hops; with wheat, biscuit, white bread dough, light honey malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very mild pine, grassy, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; bready/grainy wheat/oat creaminess and light hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Slightly increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very dank and juicy hops, with perfect malt balance. Never overly sweet/heavy, awesome soft mouthfeel. Super easy drinking. Glad to have this as a year round available beer. This is one of my top most purchased beers ever at the moment. It just doesn't get any better for the style vs availability. Every Old Nation NEIPA is the better than most anything else I've had in the state.

2016 is tasting incredible. Flavors of huge caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, cherry, and date; with lighter notes of chocolate, leather, tobacco, smoke, and herbal hops. Light herbal bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness against sweetness on the finish. Very creamy/silky/velvety medium-full body mouthfeel. Lightly slick, sticky, chalky, and tannic. Lightly increasing bitter/tannic dryness. Very smooth, minimal warming ABV, no barrel booze. Amazing barrel balance, perfect integration. Really glad this is year round now, but I always love it more with age. Still have tons of this vintage left.

    What we were drinking yesterday.

Four year vertical blind taste, my friend and I both came to the conclusion 15 only slightly better than 16 which was much better than 17 which was only slightly better than 18. The odd thing is that last weekend we both had an 18 and we raved about how much we like this beer, which lead to yesterday's session.

Downing this most pleasant dram . . .

Marvelous aroma of rich caramel malt raised to the highest bar. Other qualities emerge in the form of floral tones that are more like citrus blooms than garden flowers yet carry a round richness that is not at all sharp. Honeysuckle perhaps though not as sweet. If I walked into a bakery shop and was met with this aroma I would immediately buy whatever they were cooking.

Taste on entry is memorable and to call it great is merely descriptive like saying a Heisman Trophy athlete is better than good. The malt richness surges forth then shimmers and dances like the colors of a Flemish painting from the Rembrandt era yet recede back heightening rather than obscuring the overall composition. I get some hop presence in the back of the palate and lingering hop touches in the aftertaste but just enough to notice in their supporting role.

Happy Father's Day, BA's! Cheers to my Dad and Father-in-Law who are no longer here. And a big cheers to my twin 3 yr old boys! They are what make this day so special to me. They are everything.

On another note, since being diagnosed with Celiac's a year ago I've adapted a strict gluten free diet. A few days a year I break the rules...and today is one of those days. I just had a big fat bagel sandwich and now I'm sipping on this bad boy....Slainte!

I am drinking Yellow Rose IPA (Lone Pint, Austin), ABV 6.80%, IBU 62. I've had it many times before. The flavor is clean, juicy and refreshing, grapefruit, some mango and pineapple, pine resin and perhaps blueberry. The aroma is piney and floral. This is a great Texas IPA, perhaps among the best.

I just looked the schedule.. wow, what an amazing lineup of talent and music styles. Did you catch Hot Rize yesterday ? And did they bring that "other band" onstage to play ? I am looking forward to seeing them at GreyFox next month.

We got into the oatmeal stouts as the sun was just starting to set, last night.
The remainder of the evening is a still a bit of a blur right now.
Maybe this will help ... found one last can in the fridge this morning, already open, half full, and a little bit flat. But fine enough for a Fathers Day morning hair-of-the-dog :
