Well its been way too long since Ive posted here. Used to be an every Sunday thing for me. But alas no excuses especially since Ive had many new beers recently. No just many new beers. Sitting by the pool and I thought I would jump in again- pun intended, with Foreign Objects Ritual Colors.
Pours a beautiful slightly hazy orange gold color with a tight white head that lingers for awhile then forming a thin ring. There are some particulates present that dont take away from the look.
Aroma is lots of sweet tangerine, mixed citrus, some blueberry and white grape and peach.
Taste is really nice with again sweet citrus fruits, grapefruit rind, gooseberry and rounds out with a crisp pleasant bitterness.
Feel is a dry, crisp and a nice tight carbonation which is one of the things I really dig about FO. Alot of their beers arent as "flat" even with their super hazy offerings.
Overall Im a fan myself and this is probably one of my favorites so far. Vic Secret and Mosaic. Whats not to like?
Will buy again if I find it. I would love to try one of their Lagers as well.
The food looks awesome today as well as the brews so I was pretty pleased with my take on a Carpetbagger Steak for my daughters send off to her new job. Soy and garlic marinated tenderloin grilled and napped with a Maine smoked mussel and thyme cream sauce with lobster stock poached potatoes and garlic braised broccolini. Cheers!![IMG] [IMG]

    New beer #4.

Every Day, Once a Day, Give Yourself an IPA - Evil Twin
    DDH IPA - 9% abv
Purchased for $4.89 at Beer Heaven
    Score: 3.72 (-8.4% rDev)

L - 2.5 finger bubbly bright white head atop a translucent yellow body.

S - herb, grapefruit, soil, brown sugar, cabbage?

T - bubblegum explosion. Citrus follows, along with some dankness and pine. Vanilla. High sweetness. No bitterness. Low booziness.

    F - medium-light body with medium carb.

O - too sweet for me. Hops are muted, especially for a ddh beer. If you enjoy the taste of bubblegum, though, you will love this to death.

    Brewmaster Jack's "The Little Brother"...

I wasn't impressed overall with this DIPA. It seemed a bit one-dimensional with the taste; rather subdued, almost stale. But, there was any dating information on the bottle, so I have no idea if this was bottled late last year or in April of this (the brewery's web site indicates an October/April release schedule). Still, it looked and smelled fine, and the mouthfeel seemed almost light (and refreshing) for the style. No, it was the flavor that just didn't quite sit right with me. No suitable complimentary malt sweetness to the rather intense, biting hop bitterness.

But seeing how my wife and I have been busting tale with yard work and house clean-up for a pending neighborhood yard sale, the beer makes for a fine post-work boost.

Moving on to another DIPA -- Hanger 24's "Iconic"...

Now, this DIPA is more to my liking. It has that bold hop bitterness but is rightly supported by the malt base. It is way more balanced and appealing compared to "The Little Brother" from Brewmaster Jack.

And the house/garage1/garage2 cleaning continues this afternoon. Amazing how much stuff one collects and "saves" over the years. Thank god for the fortitude to part with things eventually (e.g., many of my old Air Force awards and certificates of recognition that, despite appreciating the stories behind them, just sit in a box buried in an obscure corner of our home). Yeah, release the stuff and free up the space...

Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers, fur-fathers, mothers who act as fathers. Today is the day we celebrate our old man who probably gave us a taste of some yellow fizzy beer.

It’s a hot one in the Great Beer State, feels like 100 here. Thankfully we have a pop-up pool we’ll be enjoying all summer. My boys have turned into little fishies. Worth the investment.

My beer is courtesy of @2beerdogs. Found this in the back of the fridge from his amazing NBS BIF. Last of the cans.

Brouwerij West Thanks for 2 IPA

16 ounce can, poured into Lexan tulip for outdoor enjoyment. No date but kept cold since I received it. Pours pale orange with some pink highlights. Little head that leaves minimal ring around the interior of glass.
The nose reminds me of Hi-C orange drink, tangerine notes as well. Soft citrus, sweet tangerine, sweet citrus. Canned mandarin orange and its syrup. Note the theme here...
Soft and fulller Light carbonation. Highly drinkable. Don’t understand the low ratings here unless difference in batches. This is truly enjoyable. Thanks Derek

    Should be back later!

    Kros Strain's Supajuice.

Pours a hazy, foggy orange with a finger of off-white foam. Head retention is fair. Aroma is mango puree, tangerine and lemon and orange zest.. Flavor profile is mango, tangerine, pineapple, and light strawberry with a hint of resin and pine hops behind. Biscuit malts provide a good support system for the abundant hops. Mouth feel is velvety and grainy, with a medium-thick consistency. With all that combined, it gives this beer a strong presence. Overall, heavy fruit notes with additional hops and minor malts make for one hearty, clean beer.

Two Roads w/ Lawson’s Finest Liquids - Typecast

This one is a little cheeky. It’s a collaboration between two brewers, with the idea that they are doing what they are typecast at… w/ Phil Markowski being “the farmhouse guy” and Sean Lawson being “the IPA guy.” Yeah, this one is a bit nerdy. The resulting beer is a “New England farmhouse IPA” brewed with white cedar boughs, Balsam fir tips, Connecticut hops, and Vermont hops (with those two locations being the locations of each brewer).

I gotta say, the direction here is weird. These two are clearly working together here because they normally work together anyway - Two Roads brews some of Lawson’s beers. BUT - given the typecasting theme of the collaboration, why a NEIPA? People don’t associate either with that exact type of beer. Why the conifer ingredients? What does that have to do with anything? Why not go with the theme and simply brew a saison that’s heavy with American hops? Eyes rolling.

The beer is a very cloudy light dull amber. Minimal head. It feels like an new age IPA that leans toward papaya that also has a resinous quality that I suppose comes from the conifers (which are otherwise not making themselves felt). I’m assuming that the “farmhouse” aspect is related to the yeast, but I can’t say. It sure tastes like this is the case, but there’s so much going on otherwise that it’s hard to determine where one thing begins and another ends. If framed with the idea of this being a saison with new world hops, it manages to feel like it’s still on target.

Interestingly, on the Two Roads website, this beer is featured as a beer unique to a 2016 event - and there’s no mention of “New England.” Was this beer originally designed outside of the NEIPA concept? Has the recipe changed or just the marketing? Either way, this feels like a one and done - a chance for something a little unusual but not much more than that.

Great review, Dave! Like you, I'm blown away by 296. I keep saying it's like a lighter, more flavorful, version of Nimble Giant. Industrial Arts brews such crisp beers that I was surprised by the dankness - but liking it a lot! I'm also glad Chief is back to brewing the experimental IPA series. I really liked 85 and 138 and can't wait to see what he brews up next!

L- The beer pours golden with a very slight haze. The head rises to 2 fingers of off white foam which recedes to a thin ring and central island.
S- The nose is dank and weedy hops of moderate intensity. More weedy than dank.
T- The nose translates to the palate. Hops from beginning end in one long note. Malt is present and the beer ends with a light bitterness.
F-Mouthfeel is medium. Carbonation is light and prickly.
O- Another solid if unspectacular DIPA entry from SIerra Nevada. If you like a weedy hop profile you'll enjoy this one. It kind of reminds me of Hop Bullet in a way.

Appearance- a clear golden yellow/amber/orange color with moderate head which leaves good lacing

Aroma- citrus, pine, lemon, slight booze

Taste- light citrus and slight burning hops up front which gives way into the bitter, hearty, earthy malts and finishes sticky with a hint of alcohol

    Mouthfeel- medium sticky

Overalll- traditional double ipa, very good and I would expect nothing less from the brewers

...Taste is orange, orange zest, mildly bitter pine, and what tastes like sweet lemon candy
...I could see people not liking this as the flavors weren't over the top. That seemed to be what made it refreshing to me and very drinkable. The orange didn't taste fake and the pine element was subdued which made everything else standout really well[IMG]

Happy father's day everyone. I lost my dad to cancer when I was 5 years old. I have already outlived his age by 18 years. Don't feel bad for me, I've never known a different life and I have 3 great sons. I have a lot of memorabilia from my father's short life that make me feel proud.

Moving on to beer. @cavedave also reviewed this today and mentioned too much carbonation. My can seems to be different. The head faded fast and I would appreciate a little more carbonation in the mouth feel.

If you give your beer such a presumptuous name it better be good. And it is. Yes I know that it follows a theme that Industrial Arts has, but I assume they saved this one for their best effort.
Poured to a nonic from a can dated 6/6/18. Hazy but not opaque. Medium head that fades kind of quickly.
    Citrus rind aroma, some melon.
Taste is a progression. Melon start, citrus rind middle, dry hop notes in the finish. Alcohol is masked.
Mouth feel is also time dependent. Cream start, thins out to the dry hop end.
    Really good beer.

Good afternoon and Happy Father Day to all those dads in Ba land. I just got back from brunch with my family where my youngest son actually paid for all 5 of us. I was trying not to fall out of my chair!! As a father I have plenty to be thankful for. My daughter was there who just graduated with her masters degree and was just hired at Citi Bank. My middle son was celebrating his second paycheck as a Registered Nurse and after pounding the OT is doing very well for himself. My oldest just finished level 3 Cisco Certification and has an offer on the table from a large insurance company but has an interview with a government agency next week. Everyone is healthy, together and doing well. It's a nice feeling getting them off the launch pad. Now I just need to get 2 of them out of the house but that's another story. Todays beer was Victory Home Grown New American Lager. I was looking for something a little lower in the ABV dept. and something to enjoy when I was thirsty. I found this one to be a big surprise. It was great. Here is a copy of my review. "I was looking for an easy drinker for a hot day so I figured why not. Poured from a 12 ounce can into a tulip glass. Light golden yellow with plenty of head that dissipates quickly leaving a little on the edge with minor lacing. For a lager the smell was wonderful. The first thing that you get is a fresh hop smell that was unexpected. The taste was surprisingly hoppy but not overpowering. It is floral and refreshing. It tastes like hop oil added to a great lager base because it does feel resiny. Slightly different. Very crisp, refreshing and crushable. A fantastic spin on an American lager. The perfect beer for when you are thirsty."
So have a great day and count your blessings.....

L - the liquid erupts out of the can, forming a massive 4-finger pink head. Body is a translucent purple.

S - blueberry, sugar, molasses, citrus.

T - follows the nose. Sweet blueberries with only a trace of tartness. Apparently there is peach in this too but not getting much of it. Moderate sweetness. No bitterness. No booziness.

    F - light bodied with mega-high carb.

O - refreshing brew to drink in the heat of summer.

First and foremost, cheers to all the BA dads and dads of BAs! I've spoken with both of my kids today. Our daughter is an archaeologist who has worked on a project in Israel for the past 8 summers. She skyped with us this morning. We're traveling there in July to see the dig site and I'm really excited. Our son works in Raleigh NC. He called me while I was driving up the Garden State Parkway from the shore and we had a great, hour-long conversation about all sorts of things. I miss him but am very proud of him.

On to beer. Half Acre's Beer Hates Astronauts hit New Jersey last week and with lots of positive comments from BAs in the virtual bar I had to give it a try. It's very good. It's a simple American IPA featuring Vienna malt and Citra hops. With so many gimmicky IPAs out there, it really hits the spot. Here's my review:

    4.29/5 rDev -2.3%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Canned 5/23/2018 and poured into Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a hazy, golden-honey color with over a finger of fluffy, bright-white head and copious lacing. The nose is fragrant with tangerine, lemon, ripe melon, onion, vanilla, and soft floral hops. It has a really nice flavor opening with tart lemon and a hint of grapefruit. There follows a touch of melon and sweetness from the Vienna malt. The Citra hops add a nice bitter bitter taste but without a strong bite. I think the best thing about this ale is its mouth feel: plush, creamy, and silky smooth; it feels great going down. It has pleasant carbonation and the 7.5% ABV gives it a nice pop for a single IPA. Overall, I really like this ale: in a world of gimmicky IPA's, a simple brew featuring Citra hops and Vienna malt is always welcome. Beer Hates Astronauts is big enough to accompany a meal of seafood or a burger but it's fine for casual drinking. In fact, it's hard to limit yourself to a single can or pour. I'm glad this beer made its way to New Jersey fairly fresh and I'll look for it again.

I hope you're all enjoying your new beers today. The reviews are great!

[IMG] Finally time for a formal review of this treat from @jzeilinger . Pours a very attractive orange yellow with a 2 plus finger sticky white head that leaves a thick wall of lace as it slowly settles. Canned on 5/8/18. 4.5

Smell is guava, passionfruit, pineapple, and some grapefruit rind. 4.25

Taste follows tropical front to back, with some bitter grapefruit in the balanced finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, plenty of life, maybe a tad dry from the crazy amount of hops, and excellent drinkability. 4.25

I'll refrain from talking crap about the Longhorns until the final out, but we're looking great so far. Many thanks to @WesMantooth for this beer here. My buddy is bringing me a rocky mountain BORIS and another BBA version back from his vacation, so I felt I could open this one on this fine Sunday. Cheers fellas and GO HOGS!!!!
