What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2067

This is an amazing beer. @scream was able to get it for me from the brewery.

 

Good afternoon BAs! The sun has been threatening to come out today, here near the shores of Loch Lomond, but thus far they have been idle threats. Today's luncheon beer is one I had on tap at the GBBF in 2007:



Looking through the filter of memory, I think it was better then than now.

 

Easing into my week here with something both comfortable and interesting . . .



Hazy golden color with white cap.

The aroma first struck me as sweet malt overlain with citrus and floral scents. It was after I read the label I realized those were due to the Kaffir lime leaves, ginger and chamomile. These scent tones are not strong by any means, rather sort of mild and very pleasant.

Taste is medium bodied sweet grain with the citrus-floral influence present from start to finish. Rather simple flavors but well combined in a way that each complements the other. There is also a spicy element highlighted by the Belgian yeast notes of ripe yellow fruit and clove. A relaxing and pleasing combination.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation. A bit much carbonation at first (it pours like a Belgian) but all that quickly settles down.

A nicely done refreshing beer that's worth a repeat.

Most of our weekend guests have departed. Down to two kids and two grandkids and they've decided to go to the beach, so we have the house to ourselves. I said to my wife "Fairway or foreplay?", and she said "Have a nice game, dear."
I am enjoying this nice porter from Baxter Brewing.

 

I was greatly saddened to miss yesterday's New Beer Sunday (Week 695), but I was outta town, beginning on Sa morning & CANtinuing into last evening, for a monthly bottle/CAN share at a friend's place near Gulph Mills/Conshohocken-King of Prussia on Sa.

It is a trek for me on public trans, but I find it to be worthwhile. I stay overnight as a same-day turnaround would NOT be worthwhile. Once I rouse, my host & I go to a local or two & then I get back on public trans for the ride home.

Yesterday, he turned me on to Flanigan's Boathouse & Below Deck Bottle Shop & I am in love! The place is not only nautically themed, but they have vintage Navy certificates (Decommissioning & Golden Shellback) on the bulkheads near the heads! I am a retired U.S. Navy sailor & this speaks to me! On my next visit (F, 20 July 2018), I am donating some of my gear. Many people have an "I Love Me Wall" in their home to trumpet their achievements, but mine are gathering dust. This will give them a worthy home.

I am currently watching the Belgium/Panama World Cup match & while I am part of #ADOPTICELAND I am also rooting for Belgium.

This reminds me of the joke about the castaway who is visited by a buxom blonde in a wetsuit. She asks if he'd like a beer & when he assents, she unzippers the suit & pulls out a sixer. He is flabbergasted & then she asks he'd care for a steak. Sure enough, she has one ready to cook on his campfire of jetsam. Finally, she asks if he'd like to play around. :=O "You have a bag of clubs in there, too?!?" Haha. Yinz golfers ...
