Didn't see much for La Jolla in the forum search. I'll be traveling out in July for a week. Looking for some local stops, stores, restaurants and breweries that might be near by, not looking to go out of my way much. Looks like I am about 4 min drive from BevMo!, 844 Pearl St, La Jolla, CA 92037, hoping they have a nice selection. I am coming from Cleveland, OH and coming out for the first time west. Any micro or smaller breweries in that area worth checking out? Nice places with good taps are of interest too. Thanks!
Not to sound snide, but you know La Jolla is right next to San Diego, right? With dozens of good to great beer options? If this really is your first time in CA, you should make the effort to drive/Uber/whatever to SD.
It's been a few years but La Jolla Public House was always a favorite for my wife and I. Great patio, good food, and a great bottle list.
Yeah, as long as we are talking travel time under 30 min, I am all ears. Just looking for more micro / smaller breweries that I wouldn't have heard of back east, and nice shops to stop at.
30minutes gets you basically everywhere aside from alpine, and potentially downtown (only because ComicCon is in July which increases traffic a billionty fold). So pretty much any thread that mentions san diego is what you would be looking at, otherwise we can just link you the westcoaster which has a brewery map. Or this one: https://www.sdbeer.com/locations Or even this one: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1pbR91HVqmpQogZczWzgMFVrIbSA&hl=en_US&ll=32.759167888112884,-117.13080721691892&z=14 Edit: But don't skip over the bigger breweries, like Alesmith. While you may see 394 and regular speedway at your local places at home, the Anvil & Stave area (8-12 BA beers at all times) is not to be missed.
La Jolla is a relatively short uber ride from the Alesmith, Pure, Mikkeller, Thunderhawk, etc clustering in Miramar. That's where I'd recommend.
Modern times is well within 30 min of La Jolla as well. Would be my number #1 recommendation and they'll certainly have cans to go for sale.
Come visit us at California Wild Ales. We are 10 minutes away from you. 10 Barrel aged beers on Tap. [/IMG] https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1070081519822365
Even though the Reaper is their unofficial resident, I agree with Anvil & Stave area (kinda secret spot within Alesmith taproom; but just ask a server if uncertain), especially if it's an off day, you can just sit in there for as long as you like.
