That isn't the title of a crappy movie, it is my life in about a month.

Anyway, I will be in Worcester on a Thursday and Friday coming up. I am doing the obvious and picking up some Tree House cans and probably going to drive to Vanished Valley since they are now open on Fridays, but, any locals with other suggestions? I plan on hitting Armsby Abby for sure.

Looking for not only beer but food and outdoorsy activities.

    Thanks in advance

I went to armsby Abby yesterday and it was amazing. I'd hit up The Dive Bar as well. They always have a great tap list that has HF and Trillium

    Oh boy..

Quinsigamond State Park for outdoor activities.

Mix of bars and restaurants or just spots you need to check out in my opinion apart from AA.

    -Broth
    -Dive Bar
    -The Fix
    -The Boynton
    -Shawarma Palace
    -George Coney Island
    -The Pint
    -Greater Good Imperial Brewery
    -Deadhorse Hill
    -BirchTree Bread Company
    -Choose & Mix
-Smokestack for decent bbq and solid taplist.

Wormtown brewery is a fun time!

If you’ll have a car, not far to Wachussett where you could hike and also hit the brewpub.

I would definitely hit Wormtown if you're there. Worth a quick trip for at least one beer for sure, I'm under the impression they usually have some fun brewery only stuff on.

And the Boynton for buffalo chicken pizza is a borderline necessity.

Is there a rift between Armsby and Wormtown? I have never seen Wormtown on tap at Armsby or Dive. Just found it odd, I know Wormtown is not worldclass but I'd expect Be hoppy and some of their one-offs to make an appearance a time or two.

I'll go the 'other than beer' route as you seem to have it covered. Hit up Fix Burger bar and swing by the egg roll lady for late night snacks. Egg roll lady is a must being home treat . Enjoy .

I personally don't see wormtown on the level as what they get to put on draft. You don't see 3cross or cold harbor either. Either they don't have a good relationship with them or the beer isn't good or as good as the baseline. Probably the latter .

You are probably right but I have had cold harbor, Kent falls, honest weight and brick feather at armsby. Some were good and others not to my liking, but it's all subjective.

Worcester is one of the best if not the best spots for beer and food in Mass.

Wow I had no idea it was such a good spot. I have been looking up tap lists and some of the suggested places and am blown away. I need to move out of the Midwest.

Maddi’s Cookery just opened in the Canal District with a pretty solid taplist.

If you want a feel for Wachusett without going up north, they have a summer long brew yard behind Railers Tavern in Worcester.

If you’re looking for a Byob place Dacostas is imo the best pizza in Worcester- its right across the street from the previously mentioned Greater Good Brewing.

There’s a pretty good bar that opened up across from the DCU center called the Railer Tavern as well. (The Railers are the new minor league hockey team in town) decent mid tier craft offerings.

If you’re into stogies, Michaels is a good cigar bar.

Worcester, like many small cities, is experiencing a little bit of a rennaisance of late. It’s not on the level of Boston at all of course but there’s plenty to do there to stay busy for at least 2-3 days. It would be a good transition from he Midwest to there, but I would recommend Portland ME if you were moving anywhere in New England.

If I was in Worcester for 2 days and I had a car (which it sounds like you will), I would try to do as much of the local stuff mentioned above as I could, but also take a quick (less than 40 minute) drive east to Framingham and hit Jack's Abby and Exhibit A. Then, you are 25 minutes from Trillium Canton which would be a must stop.

And/or, take a beautiful drive on 190 N to 2 west - you are less than an hour from Honest Weight. 25 minutes further west past Honest Weight and you could hit Brick and Feather, then get some food and beers at Five Eyed Fox. A lot of good hikes and outdoorsy activities up this way as well.

You can basically drive an hour or so in any direction and hit a world class brewery. I would also probably stop at Tree House on both Thursday and Friday if I were you, but of course you only have so much time - have fun!

I didn't realize that Honest Weight and Brick and Feather are so close.

Seems like I could just make a circle starting in Worcester, going South to Tree House for cans, then West to Vanished Valley, head North to Brick and Feather then East to Honest Weight and then South East back to Worcester.

And to think, just a few days ago I thought to myself, well, guess I am driving to Boston for fun

Yes, this is a great day loop! If you have time you could stop in Northampton after Vanished Valley for food and/or to go to one of several beer bars in town. Local Burger is BYOB and you could stop at The Foundry or The Dirty Truth (both top notch beer bars) before or after. The drive from Vanished Valley to Brick and Feather is up through the Pioneer Valley - lots of small college towns, restaurants, farm stands, nice views, and fun outdoor activities.

Happy to hear and you're welcome! Last bit of advice then - find your way to Mount Holyoke College from Vanished Valley and then jump on route 47 North. You can head left on 9 if you want to stop in Northampton (crossing this bridge can be a pain at rush hour) but otherwise stay on 47 (you could also head right and explore Amherst if you have the time). Stay on 47 north to Montague and stop at the book mill (has 2 restaurants and local beer to drink outside) - this is a must stop. Brick and Feather is 10 minutes north of the book mill.
