Richmond just got a little more crowded. Basic City bought the old Twisted Ales location as their second location. Enjoy the taste of Waynesboro, they make some really solid brews and Bart is a great guy to chat with.
Interesting decision to join such a crowded market. I drink a ton of BC, and hoppy stuff is excellent. If Three Notch'd can do okay in RVA, I would think BC will be just fine. Seems like a move to Roanoke, the Hampton Roads area, or even NOVA would be a safer choice though...
Currently showing on their website. They do a variety of styles and just about all are done very well and always consistent. Their IPAs, just like many others, are what they get a lot of buzz about. Most are NE-Style. Bask DIPA is phenomenal imo. That is regular rotation and canned every 3-4 weeks. 6th Lord (Citra hopped) is a great go to lower abv ipa with a lot of flavor. I would place that at the same table as the ones Triple Crossing, The Answer, Final Gravity and The Veil any day.Basic City is basically what I consider as The Valley's version of those breweries. @JMUbrewz I agree Roanoke may have made better sense especially since they already have a distro presence there. Not many from RVA know about them and it is definitely getting crowded. I guess the deal was too good to pass up. There's a lot of development in the area where the building is and I think the lact of business is what did Twisted Ales in so they may not see immediate success but if they can withstand the next year or two then it should when all that development is supposed to be nearing completion then it will be a very hot area I think.
Anyone waiting on updates.....if all sticks to plan I believe Basic City plans to open their RVA tap room late next week / weekend. Last update from the owner posted a couple weeks ago was tentatively planning Sept. 6. Not brewing on site yet so expect kegs to be brought down from Waynesboro the first few weeks.
Post from over the weekend. RVA location opening on Friday. Fairly certain they are not yet brewing on site so cans/draft will be brought in from Waynesboro. Good news is just about everything should be within a couple weeks since canned/kegged. Golden Bough (Azacca & Citra DIPA) cans release tomorrow too. That's one of the best they've brewed IMO. ______________________________________________________ "This door for Basic City Beer Co. Southside RVA will open for the public on Friday September 7th! We will be open Friday 12-10pm, Saturday 12-10pm & Sunday 12-8pm. We will maintain this pattern under our VA ABC privileges until our TTB Permit is issued. We will then add our weekday hours. Look forward to pouring you a beer! Cheers, Bart Lanman Zymurgy Synergist"
Basic City Beer Co. is open this weekend, 9/14-9-16. We have just received our Brewer's Notice from the TTB. We now can sell beer both On & Off Premise. We will be open this weekend and next weekend, 9/21-9/23, and then open for the full week starting 9/25. We are still doing some work to the building. Soon we will have a "play room" with ping-pong, pool tables, pinball etc. like our Waynesboro location. The brew system needs some work. It is currently like an amped-up home brew system- which is very exciting for our brewers to get back to the basics. We want to size our new system based on our taproom attendance. We were looking for a potential satellite in C-ville, Roanoke, NVA but when Twisted Ales came available it was an offer that we couldn't refuse. We are very humbled to be in a market that has many fantastic craft breweries. We hope to fit into the scene and offer another option for high quality, consistent and creative craft beer. We look forward to seeing you at 212 W. 6th Street, Richmond, Virginia. Cheers, Bart Lanman Zymurgy Synergist
