Hazy hot and humid day here on Long Island. Just got back inside after pulling weeds from my vegetable garden. First up today is Divided Sky from Gun Hill Brewing Co. Pours a hazy golden color with a quarter inch white head that dissipated quickly and left few dots of lacing. Smells predominantly of citrus fruits with some pine and tropical fruits. Tastes of grapefruit, grapefruit rind, lemon, pineapple, peach, pine, crackers malts floral notes and an earthy quality. Light bodied and carbonation, dry and bitter finish. A refreshing beer on a day like today but nothing special.

This is Space Kitty, a DIPA from Rohrbach BC (with a real kitty in the pic)
This deep amber can pour (15 days after canning) with tan foam offers a light pine aroma. The flavor is malt first with resinous hop flavors dominating. The body is light and the finish is clean. I would not guess that this is a double IPA.

With all the talk on the heat, how about this beer, which goes down with quite a bit of said heat.
Before I get to the beer, a word on the brewery. This beer is from Shmaltz Brewing based out of Clifton Park, NY. For those who haven't heard yet, they have sold their facility to Singlecut, and the brand will continue as a Contract Brewery, which is how they originally started before settling in Clifton Park. This brew, is one of the more unique beers I've ever had, and leads me to wonder, where did Shmaltz go wrong?

    Genesis 20:20
    16.7%
    22oz bottle into Libbey Tulip
No date but from Dec 2016
L- dark brown with reddish hues, thin fizzled out white head
    S- bourbon, cherries, strawberries,
T- sweet super sweet malt, followed by tart berry jam, and sweet bourbon finish
F- thick and syrupy, a real sipper, the 16.7% ABV makes this drink like a whiskey
Overall a real 'different' beer, totally takes Barleywine to a different level, but even at about a year and a half can still use some time to mellow out
    Cheers!

Bar Harbor Real Ale, Atlantic Brewing Company, Bar Harbor ME:

Brown pour with off white head; decent retention leaving solid ring; moderate lace; excellent clarity. 4.75

    Caramel malt nose. 3.50

Lite bitter floral hop taste, followed by semi sweet caramel; very lite nutty finish. 4.0

Medium lite body, moderate minus carbonation. 3.75

Overall a very nice brown ale; well balanced with a lite nutty linger; well made browns remind me that I drink Browns too infrequently. Would drink again, as well as other beers from this local brewery. 4.0

Beautiful upper 70s on this heatwave Sunday, with a strong cooling breeze off the water - Have a great day, and Cheers from Bar Harbor ME!

Happy NBS. We had a few relatives over the past two days, which left my fridge barren, except for one beer. Evil Twin B is for Blueberry.

Pours a very magenta with a 2.5 finger fizzy white head that leaves some spotty lacing on my glass. Aroma is very tart with berry notes, specifically blueberry, and hints of lemon. Flavor really hits with a tartness of blueberry juice and finishes with tart lemon and a touch of saline. Feel is light bodied with prickly carbonation, quite refreshing. Seems more like a very tart Berliner than a Gose. Could use a bit more salt and some blueberry flavor, but it is refreshing.

No other beer in my fridge for today as I watch the skies for incoming sever T Storms in the next few hours.

Some good beers being posted here has me itching to have one as well. One Claw was a little fun surprise for the GF and I on our last trip quite a few years ago to SC. I had it nearer the beginning of my journey into better beers, and after a few beers in between tries, it really held up as a very enjoyable beer to me. @goingbrokeonbeer is steering you right, IMO.

.. pours a very clear orange gold color
..about a medium body and maybe just above average carbonation
..aroma isn't too strong but there's malt, grain, and some bitter floral smell
... Taste is similar, not overly bitter but it is prominent and lingers in the aftertaste
..Overall it's not bad,not great, the lingering bitterness starts to take over too much[IMG]

I used to drink a lot of that one when I lived in Ellsworth in the late 90s. If you haven't tried Cadillac Mountain Stout yet, it's worth picking up a bottle. (Worth driving up Cadillac Mountain, too.) Cheers! :beers:

Hello NBS'ers - been a while since I've posted in here. Today, I have the Reserve Sour Saison by New Belgium.

The body is a cloudy golden color with white head. Aromas are of Green apple, pear, lemon, ginger. The taste closely mimics the aroma with white grapes, lemon, green apple, pear lemon and ginger. The Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation, citrus in the middle, a bit of sourness/tartness and a dry finish. Overall, this is a well done beer where all the elements of the beer work harmoniously. I would give this a 4.25/5.

    Hey what's going on?!

World Cup that's what! Man some crazy results I gotta say...

Been a ridiculous weekend, unbelievably hot so I am happy to just stay indoors and drink. Heh heh.

It's CANADA DAY! Hooray, so thanks to all my Canuck friends and family, salud!

So what's new for our hero today?

Poured from the bottle into a tulip/snifter glass.

Pale orange body color, with a slight bit of rust angles to it. Fleeting off khaki colored head with little depth, and settles to a very thin pencil collar, and then eventually not one at all. Slight whispy top, and somewhat opaque, but you can still see through it but with a glow.

Chewy aroma senses on the nose. Touches of definite buttery like nut qualities, definitely smelling the macadamia off of this. Not so much vanilla and chocolate. Rich smelling body, with touches of boozy caramel.

Palate is a bit unexpected. Solid bold chewy depth of wheat but with a touch more fruity qualities. Hits a little citrus orange, with a good matching citrus hop profile, and pine. Rich booze, not so much of caramel, but straight up liquor. Good touches of bourbon like caramel, but with quite a bit of heat. Light bodied but solid barrel aging and depth.

White Chocolate is one of my all time favorite beers, but this addition of nuts seems to have taken away much of the favorite character and flavor I enjoy so much. It's still very good, but runs hot and has very little white chocolate quality than it's other brethren, with a lighter mouthfeel that isn't as rich an decadent.

    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4 | BA Generated Score: 4

    Cheers!

Greetings, fellow NBSers. Thanks to @cjgiant for getting us underway this Hoopfest Sunday.

That's right, It's Hoopfest here in Spokane. The world's largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament has most of downtown shut down to cars. This year has probably been a bit more pleasant for the players than usual. Instead of 90-100°, it's only been reaching into the mid to high 70s this weekend, although there has been a little rain.

It's been nearly a month since I've darkened the door of NBS. I've been working a ton of extra hours while my employer is massively short-handed, have been ill, and, as for last weekend, I was out of town, visiting my parents in my hometown and then, tag-team driving with them to visit my brother and his family on the coast for my niece's 3rd birthday (for reasons which passeth understanding, I am a celebrity amongst my nieces, so the outcry would've been great if I hadn't turned up).

At times I've been battling a strange case of beer ennui as well (probably from sheer exhaustion) that left me uninterested in reviewing beer,.preferring to just drink the stuff, or just skip it altogether and hit a shot of bourbon before going to bed.
Well, I made a point in trying some new beers this last week. I reviewed a saison my friend Mark gave me from the brewery he reps (Hunga Dunga in Moscow, Idaho), and now, today I'll be hitting at least two new beers, starting with this:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24134/224761/?ba=woemad#review
First from Westbrook, and indeed, my first from South Carolina. According to my genealogically-inclined relatives, the majority of my European ancestors started out in South Carolina back in colonial days, so I should probably someday make a pilgrimage there, but based on this beer, I'd probably wind up making up excuses to hang around the Westbrook brewery. This is great stuff! Thanks, @Dragginballs76, for sending it my way!

I'll be back with a somewhat robust stout from a brewery I visited on Tuesday near my hometown, and possibly a more hoppy beer as well.

    Good day all!

I thought since I have some interesting new beers sent by some generous BAs recently that I might stop by this unstoppable beer thread today and in the coming weeks.

The beer: Barrel Aged Uber Joe Double Imperial Stout

ABV: Research reveals this is 13.8%. (Whew! Buckle up Jim.)

Brewed by: 3 Sheeps Brewing in Sheboygan Wisconsin

Sheboygan WI: Has a population of approximately 50,000 souls. Average family size of 3.06

    Beer label: Not applicable

Beer came to me via: My affinity for The Duvel / through the affinity of @GreenBayBA has for winning Drink with the Duvel Day and his affinity for pleasing the Duvel while at the same time blinding all of us mortals / and MOST IMPORTANTLY his connection to fellow Wisconsinite @scream who gave this beer to him.

GreenBaydude suggested I drink it yesterday evening during the WBAYDN #2079 block party / peaceful Virtual Bar riot, but clear thinking prevailed.

Thanks to both of you because…

APPEARANCE: Look at it. It appears to be pleasing and HIGHLY drinkable!

AROMA: Coffee is brewing with three sugars and a few drops of chocolate sauce already in it.

NOTE: My expectations are now unfairly high.

TASTE: For me thocolate jumps out right before the coffee / vanilla surge. All the Imperial Stout components we know and love are there with a hint of Bourbon Barrel that blends in perfectly. No indication it’s almost 14%.

This is phenomenal! It's going to get better I'm sure, but by then I won't be able to type or tell you about it.

Mouthfeel: Rich, creamy, and coating. Definitely feels like it belongs in my mouth. Has a wonderful lingering aftertaste.

Overall: I’m very happy and getting drunk.

Sadly this beer is retired. Thanks again to GreenBayBA and Mr. scream for sharing! And thanks to BA and all NBSers for this weekly thread.

    Cheers!

SW Ohio weather report: Currently a chilly 58 sunny degrees with a brisk breeze coming from the north. Wife already complaining about the cold. Birds are flying south. The smell of burning leaves is in the air and we have a hard frost warning tonight. Got some fresh Great Lakes Christmas Ale for later.

We actually have 110 degrees radiating off the deck creating a fire hazard.

It's horrendously hot out so I have a (hopefully) refreshing variant of an old fav of mine in my glass!

This is Clown Shoes' Pineapple Space Cake, canned on 6/8/18. It pours a deep copper color with an orange hue to it. Head is initially intense, measuring about 4-5 fingers of white foam. It sinks down to a finger or so, leaving behind some really nice cobweb-like lace as it settles. Pretty much looks like normal Space Cake, which I anticipated.

The nose is very conservative about the pineapple addition... so much so that I'd never believe this was any different than normal Space Cake. That's pretty unfortunate, as it's almost like this isn't even a "new beer" to me at all. I was hoping for big, juicy tropical notes but I kind of just get the typical pine-y, citrusy and lightly tropical notes of Mosaic along with a grassy dankness once I pour the whole can into my glass.

Flavor profile is, once again, pretty much just Space Cake. Good thing I really like the base beer, but I do find it kinda weird that it's only 7.7% now. Not sure if that's a total reformulation of the recipe or if it only applies to this variant, but I like it better a bit leaner and less sweet in any case. Orange rind, grapefruit pith, funky dank notes and light elements of mango/guava. Not getting anything that really screams "pineapple" to me, though. Deeeeefinitely disappointed by that, not gonna lie.

Feel is oily and slick, as SC's typical profile is, and there's some nice bitterness toward the end with a bright carbonation that stops short of being fully-effervescent. The general palate tends toward the medium-heavier side of things as well, meaning this drinks just about a percent higher than it ostensibly is (which would coincidentally put it at the strength of... Space Cake...). I don't really get what they were going for here. Not upset with my purchase of a four-pack cuz, well... it's good. It just isn't what's advertised.

Edit: I just looked this beer up here on BA to see what others thought of it and did not immediately find it. Turns out it is listed as "retired" since it was brewed as a one-off batch last year around April and released in bombers. Reviews of that batch indicate that it is pineapple-forward, which I found interesting. Between last year and the present, however, Clown Shoes was bought by Harpoon and are thus brewing on a new system. Perhaps they decided to be conservative about the fruit approach with this new batch, then, I suppose. Especially because the can says it's "brewed with pineapple" and not something like "with natural flavor added" etc. Just a possibility. I will likely monitor this beer going forward if it's released again and see if they dial it in. I would really like to try this with a proper amount of fruit flavor integrated into the base!
