Exactly! I don't see anything wrong with stupid superficial crap per se, and will indulge from time to time myself :sunglasses:. But there does come a point where somebody's priorities can be screwed up if that's all they're into; I won't exactly be taking culinary advice from someone whose diet is exclusively ice cream and cheetos. Except maybe where to get the best ice cream and cheetos .

What was your impression of the ones you tried Jack? I know it's difficult to generalize, but in comparison to the ones you've tried on the East Coast, what did you think of the ones made out here?

In case you missed it, last night I saw a news report about an ice cream shop introducing Cheetos flavored ice cream... just sayin'. :confounded:

My money would be on "it's not the first time".

The real question will be how long it will last, though. Or when someone turns it into a beer .

I thought they were all very tasty and 'legit'. They all had the qualities that I personally look for in a Hazy/Juicy IPA:
    • A hazy/murky/turbid appearance
    • Not extremely bitter
    • A quality that folks like to describe via the word "juicy"
    • A soft/smooth mouthfeel
Needless to say but having the above qualities in balance is a nice thing. For those hazy beers that I personally do not find to be 'legit' they often lack the aspect of a soft/smooth mouthfeel. I personally value a soft/smooth mouthfeel for these types of beers.

    Cheers!

After years of focusing on ales - mostly of English and Belgian heritage - I've recently realized that I'm missing out on some great styles of lagers, so I've started steering a little more in that direction. So many good lagers out there and even better while the weather is hot.

Since joining BA I think I have done my part is trying to stir up conversation and interest in lagers, mostly Bocks

We visited Suarez yesterday, and tried three different lagers, and I am having a Palatine Pils right now, and let me assure everyone that the lager not only isn't dead, it is alive and well and thriving.

I relate this back to Hot Topic co opting the punk and goth scenes. There will always be people playing to the lowest common denominator for the sake of cash. It happens with EVERY hyped style.
Is using a fruit concentrate a shortcut over using actual fruit then? Or an extract even? Disregarding tired hands milkshake ipa, which other breweries use these shortcuts?

The first one I encountered requested to be consumed from the can :stuck_out_tongue:

Had my first Slow Pour Pils a couple of months ago and I've been pining for more ever since. Top notch stuff.

I personally love real Lager and pilsners. Nothing beats it on a hot summer day. I don't enjoy macro adjunct beer of any type really.

Since fruit juice concentrate and fruit juice are still fruit, like puree or freeze dried fruit, only in a different form, why would they be any different than using real fruit?

Fruit extract is horrible. Anyone that uses it in their beers should be crucified.

I couldn't tell you. Not looking to throw anyone in particular under the bus. Simply making a statement that taking shortcuts usually results in a subpar end product.

This is the mentality I have had in the past, however disregarding an entire style based on speculation and ONE example of a brewery using flour and pectin to make a beer intentionally look like a milkshake is not fair to an entire community of brewers.

Lagers are what got me into beer and craft. When IPAs first started taking off they were a huge turnoff to me until I kept trying them and my palate developed (or depending on how you look at it, destroyed ) but I never totally shunned Lagers and kept enjoying them. Luckily I live in PA where Lagers hung around but I sadly watched as they started to dwindle in numbers, especailly anything new. It is nice to see them picking up steam again and it worried me for a while because economically both on the brewer's end and on the consumer's it was easy to see how they weren't the best value.

For me if you hand me any Lager at any time it is a very safe bet that I will enjoy it, it is really the only style that is this way for me.

I was waiting for you to come bust my chops for crossing over from my hard line stance about haze.
But let's drop the haze and briten this conversation back up, I do think that as beer drinkers become burned out by aggressive flavors that have proliferated the beer world, they will begin to turn towards nuanced beers again. Lager will always be there for these beer drinkers.
