A: Beer pours a black body with a hint of cola like color when held to light. Minimal head at pour that gives away quickly. Typical looking stout just without any noticeable amount of lacing or head while drinking.

S: First thing I notice from the bottle was an aroma of espresso like sweetness. Once the beer was poured into a glass the oak and barrel notes become more obvious. Lots of oak notes and a faint amount of bourbon. Good solid aromas with a good balance.

T: Taste are similar to the nose. Getting a nice amount of chocolate and coffee. The bourbon flavors become more noticeable once the beer warms. Nice flavors all and all.

M: The beer is thinner than I would prefer or expect from a double digit ABV stout. Has a slightly watery like taste. The ABV is hidden well but almost to a detriment.

O: Solid beer, but the thin body keeps it from being more than solid. The bourbon shines as the beer warms. The aromas and flavors are good but the mouthfeel is lacking.

Hey, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us started. That’s a great part of the country you’re relocating to, and I hope the move goes smoothly!
Been enjoying all the reviews so far. Both of my new beers for tonight are from one of my locals, Pizza Boy Brewing. They aren’t technically new as I had both for the first time on Friday, but I have nothing brand new on hand, so I hope these’ll do!

The first is You’ve Got A Friend In IPA-

This is an incredibly refreshing, dank, fruity and somewhat bitter IPA. The name is a play on an old PA state slogan, “You’ve got a friend in PA” which also used to be on our license plates. Here’s my BA review-

    4.22/5 rDev 0%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Look- crystal clear pale golden, almost like a pilsner; 1 finger white head that fades a way to a ring around the edge of the glass; spotty lacing

Aroma- dank weed and grapefruit are predominant but I'm also picking up some hints of peaches, green grapes and tangerine

Taste- peaches and pineapples, dank weed, green grapes, a little grapefruit pith bitterness and subtle bready malt under that

Feel- light bodied and medium carb; nice dry and slightly bitter finish; really refreshing

Overall- surprisingly light and refreshing IPA despite the ABV (7.5%) with nice fruity and dank hop notes, moderate bitterness and a light malty backbone for balance.

    $19.99 retail per can.
    ($16.75 wholesale.)
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 5/4 inch tan head over a very dark brown body with some sticky lacing. Fantastic nose of cocoa foremost, followed by vanilla, with some maple present as well. Tastes of all kinds of cocoa and chocolate, with the maple coming forward, and vanilla in the finish. Aromas and flavors make for an intense dessert experience. The13% abv is very well hidden by the intensity of flavors. Good feel, but was hoping for a bit more in this department, honestly. Overall, the price had nothing to do with the rating. The beer speaks for itself. Cheers!

Noa pecan mud cake stout from omnipollo

Appearance is thick, jet black, and completely opaque even on the pour. Minimal Carmel colored head which recedes quickly

Smell is straight crunchy peanut butter with some chocolate fudge

Taste is quite different than the nose. Some peanut butter, soy sauce, slight acidic quality, sweet dark chocolate, and roasty coffee which sticks around on your palate round out this brew

    Mouthfeel is full and thick

Overall this is a great brew right around 4.5 -4.6 on this one.

My second new Pizza Boy Brew for the evening is Just The Tidbits, an IPA conditioned on pineapple “tidbits,” per their description on BA. The pineapple is strongly there in the nose and flavor, and it works really well with the mostly dank weed notes that I’m getting from the hops (Amarillo, Mosaic, Ella). I really like it, but I’m thinking the pineapple may be hiding some other flavors and smells from the hops, for me at least.

Look- pours an opaque light golden with a whitey head and sheets of lacing

Aroma- predominantly pineapple with dank weed under that; also getting a bit of a somewhat sweet floral note (honeysuckle, maybe)

Taste- follows the nose very closely with pineapple and dank weed, along with just a little bitterness

Feel- medium-light bodied with a long, somewhat sweet and slightly bitter finish

Overall- a two-note beer with mainly pineapple and dank weed notes that for my tastes, work really well together

Thanks for the link! The history of the beer sounds less embellished with the additional context from the site. It seemed like they were being a bit coy on the can.

Good Evening Almost Late Night NBS
Well life keeps marching along here. Rest be assured, we have now gotten our fair share of the HOT weather that many of you have been suffering. Got to 116 here in Orange County. Granted it was "a dry heat." But once you get above 105, it's just plain old hot. Good news is I finished prepping the pool so kids were content.
On a sad note, I lost a dear one who recently came back into my life after many a years. I was so looking forward to holding her and kissing her, and drinking her in. Yes, my one and only CBS took a dive out of my beer fridge. The bitter irony was the glorious aroma that graced my nostrils as I cleaned up the carnage. It was quite a crappy start to my day yesterday. I have a sad and less than ideal relationship with CBS. It was one of those first "near whale" beers I traded for years ago. Yes, I owned one before. Sadly, I sat on it too long. Always waiting for the right time...blah, blah, blah. Then I finally popped it. It was not bad, but it was no where near what I heard it could be. Very subdued, malt notes were not distinctively maple, etc., etc.

Finally, Founders, as we all know, made CBS again. And my bottle shop guy did me the usual solid of setting one aside for me. One. And there she lie, shattered, lifeless, glistening in sanguine demise. I was devastated. Alas, I reminded myself that I can probably trade for another. And I will NOT sit on it any beyond the week in which I hope to acquire this siren.

Anyway, I own beloved European wanderer, @JBowenGeorgia hooked me up with this beauty.

Athena Paradiso W/ Cranberry, Raspberry, Tart Cherry
    by Creature Comforts

Poured from a can stamped 03/15/18.
Gorgeous and opaque, pink to raspberry in color. Fluffy head rises 2 inches or so, slowly recedes to a solid pink tinged white cap. Some clouds of clingy lacing. Ever so minuscule floaties appear. Not yeast sediment it appears to be not. Looks like tiny bits of raspberry.
Smell is amazingly fruity. Raspberry, raspberry, raspberry. And now that I'm searching, I can find hints of cranberry too. Yes, definitely. I could smell this all day.
But, I gotta taste this. Wow. It reallyy is a wash of the three fruits. Starts with cranberry and raspberry, but the cherry comes right in afterward. Moving it around in the mouth brings bright raspberry notes, then an earthy tart to sour cranberry takes over. The cherry is a bit smoother, rounds out towards the end, followed by a finishing swallow that brings back the coupling of cranberry and raspberry. Mildly acidic. Love this.
Mouthfeel is medium carbonation, slightly slick and acidic. Gives that nice "click" in the back of the mouth and tongue.
Overall, love this. I'd like to try any and all variants.

Dear Lord, you speak wisdom. I have drained a whole storage unit, cleaned out a large one bedroom apartment, and 14 containers of Hallmark ornaments thus far. Yet I feel I have not even gone through 1/2 of the stuff my mother (a hoarder, and woman of eclectic taste) left me to go through. Sadly, I feel like the progress I made in the last few years was the easier stuff. I have a lot left.

Happy Return to/of New New Holland/Belgium Beer Sunday (Week 698)!

Whew! What a day it turned out to be! I had to go to a meeting/interview in the AM that kind of disrupted the day, then my computer began running updates that included shutting down & rebooting 8={} & on top of all of that, my stamina flagged in the face of all of these big beers!

This beer is much better on tap. In the can I felt as you do and I think it is more like orange soda. On tap, it is a very lively beer. DOesn't seem to take well to canning and distro, I think.

Good luck with your relocation. If you don't bring the treadmill, where do will you hang up your jackets? That's all ours is good for <grumble>
