I’m heading to St. Louis here in a couple months to find some more beer places. I’ve been before and my favorite was Urban Chestnut. What are the places I shouldn’t miss and that I need to go to? Looking for any suggestions on breweries, craft beer bars, or restaurants with great beer. Thanks for any help.

What styles of beer do you prefer? STL is one of the best beer scenes in the country.

Cugino’s is an Italian restaurant that also houses Narrow Gauge which makes fantastic NEIPA’s. Some of the best in the country, imo. They’ve also started doing some fruited BW’s that are great as well.

Side Project is the best brewery in the world, imo, and they have 2 locations very close to each other (one of which is only open weekends). The best sours in the world are found here under their label and they also have really dialed in their NEIPA’s (under Shared brewing label but brewed there/served there as well). If they have any stouts available to go or onsite under either label (shared or SP) then get them. Will be world class.

Perennial is also in STL. I mainly only like their stouts. Sump and Abraxas are almost always available onsite on draft.

There are many others but these are the top
    3, imo.

If you are looking for traditional styles done incredibly well, check out Civil Life. ITap and Bridge are 2 great beer bars. This city has so many great breweries, it is really hard to find a bad beer.

I came here to post Civil Life. OP, if you enjoyed UCBC then you will very likely enjoy Civil Life. Lots of traditional English and German style beers in a great space with great people. Just an FYI though, it is cash only.

Thanks for the info. I checked Civil Life’s webpage and I think I will have to hit that place. I will have to stop in Bridgeport and Itap. Cheers

The Wine & Cheese Place - bottle shop
Flying Saucer - bar/restaurant with like 100 taps, plus bottles & cans

Narrow Gauge, Perennial, Side Project for sure. 2nd shift and 4 Hands are great as well. Square One and Heavy Riff are pretty decent too. If you're driving from Colorado stop in Columbia, MO (will be on your way) at Logboat Brewing. They have great beers plus the place is awesome.

I'd suggest Side Project is a must visit, Perennial, 2nd Shift & 4 Hands are all great. There is a lot to choose from around here.

P.S., do you know anyone who can manage a MLB team...? Asking for a friend...

Will be in St. Louis last Monday aft - tuesday in the month. Normally a lot of bottles to go from Side Project, and think its stouts and wilds. DO you advice different? Im there the Tuesday at 3 pm to get bottles and drive to Omaha, so having a couple of samples is my capacity. Do they serve 4-5 ouncers?

I will also be in STL the end of July first of August and will be traveling with children (11 and 12). Are any of the above suggestions more kid friendly than others with the understanding that we will not be there on a weekend or after traditional dinner hours?

I just want to throw Heavy Riff in the mix, great food and beer, plus convenient location not far from other breweries

Doubt there are any stouts to go but should be several sours. I’m honestly not sure if they do half pours. That’s a good question. I’ve always just asked for full pours or opened full bottles onsite.

I would do dinner and hops at Cugino’s/Narrow Gauge Monday night for sure. Perennial is closed both days you are in town.

I’m usually only in town for short periods of time so don’t venture much from Side Project/Narrow gauge (unless Perennial has something special available) but just took a look at Heavy Riff on yelp & Untappd and food does look delicious and appears they have some beers that might be worth making a stop for for sure.

Thanks for this recommendation. I will make it a point to check them out on one of my upcoming stops in town.

half pour is better than full pour, but 4-5 ounces would be a flight sized pour

If you go to Side Project then you are only a few minutes drive from Heavy Riff. Definitely check them out

Heavy Riff and Civil Life are both worth checking out. Did not eat at either but purely on beer merits.

Any interest in exploring neighborhoods? I’m a big fan of STL walking beer tours with food as the end game.
