Some folks on the "visiting Bend" thread were interested in the progress on Boneyard's new location. Boneyard posted their own photo on their Facebook page on 5/30. Here are some pics I took while passing by this weekend. Not my best work, but it gives you an idea of what's going on. Looks like they are super close to getting done with the build-out. Fire pit, covered bike parking, big parking lot...looking good.

Super sad it wasn't open when I was in town last weekend. But, I heard that Boneyard got hit by the city numerous times so it's not surprising.

Can’t wait. Love boneyard. Will be down to bend towards the end of July. Hopefully, it will be up and running. Will they be keeping the old location open, as well?

from a June 2017, Bend Bulletin article:
"The company operates the original brewery on NW Lake Place, where it sells growler fills, T-shirts and other merchandise, and a production brewery off NE Empire Avenue. Lawrence said the Lake Place brewery, the former auto shop that gave Boneyard its name, will remain in operation but the retail side will move to Division Street when the pub opens."

The above quote is technically correct as I understand it, but note that means public access may not be allowed. The brewery inside will continue to produce beer, but AFAIK no growler fills or tasters. I asked about the 420-friendly B&B being built next door and whether they’d supply crowlers or have tour/tasting opportunities, and it sounded like they were working on something with no firm details, so there may be a loophole in that “no public access” policy.

Some new pics. Boneyard's new location been open since last Wednesday, July 11. They had a soft launch on the previous Monday. They've been slammed ever since. Especially in the height of the tourist season.

My first impressions. Firstly, best thing that's happened to this street ever. Giant space. Not enough parking to match. Capacity is something like 300 people? there are mabye 30 parking spots. And side streets are small or non-existent. So you need to pick your moment on when to go.

Counter service? not my favorite. Even though I occupied the same bar stool my entire visit...I had to first give my credit card to start my tab. Then when I ordered my food. had to give my name so they could put it on my tab. Ordered another beer. Had to give my name again. Asked for the check. Had to give my name again. Did not get an itemized receipt. just the credit card slip. It seemed to add up, but I'd really like to see if what I ordered was what was put on my tab. If they are busy, and people have similar names...I envision mild chaos.

Beer is excellent. Diablo Rojo does it for me. Food menu...too large and too eclectic. No burgers? No fries or tots? Might be a Type 2 kitchen...where frying an grilling are not allowed...will have to ask about that. I give kudos for an adventurous menu...but at the same time, it's about the beer. Shouldn't have to think too hard about the food. Having said that, I liked the empanadas and the wings with the verde sauce. They could lose two of the other flavor wings easily and add original buffalo style, which is mysteriously absent.

It's early. I usually wait a good month before I visit a new place, but I happened to leave work early and swung by and saw a couple spots open in the parking lot.

I expect they will shake things out and it can only get better.

Thanks for the write-up! Glad to see that they've finally opened after all the starts and stops over the years. Definitely interested to see how they do in that location.

With regards to bolded above regarding the menu, hasn't Tony been adamant over the years that he would never serve traditional pub food if they ever full-service location? I remember some quotes about never doing burgers or wings or something to that effect. Kudos to them for being more adventurous, but I wonder how long they'll stick to that approach if it's not working.

I hope the menu works out also. but i have to remind myself that this is a town where a good many people think Olive Garden is authentic Italian food and Applebee's is fine dining.

Craft Kitchen (former Old Mill location)had an adventurous menu....but it was kind of a trainwreck. Fake southern food, with some BBQ thrown in....and falafel?

I think a menu can be good, but should still be cohesive.

nice! cant wait to visit sometime soon.

I always remind myself that new locations take at LEAST a month or two to work out the kinks. The service at Loyal Legion and Breakside Slabtown were awful at first, but now both are running smooth. i would expect the same with Boneyard.

Popped in there last night to grab a couple of crowlers on the way home after tubing the deschutes. Parking lot was packed, but it didn’t feel slammed in there. Saw plenty of seats (point is and I think someone mentioned it, parking is limited). Only complaint (and it was more from those waiting on me in the van) was it took a bit to get the crowlers, but that’s what happens when they guy in front of you orders 9 crowlers. Overall, much better than their little tasting room down on lake.

Glad to see they're still doing crowlers.

Need to visit Bend again real soon.
