I've been having this thought of just taking off and road tripping and hitting all the great breweries in the US. In all actuality a month would probably never make it for all the hot spots. Maybe a better question has anyone ever done this or thought of it? Give me your thoughts or even your favorite hot spots... I have an idea but maybe a little insight is needed..... thank you BA's

Considering there are now well over 2000 breweries in the US, how many would you qualify as great? Or more so, how many woulsld you want to visit? For instance Alaskan is pretty highly regarded. Do you want to go to Alaska to? How long a trip do you want to take?

I hope you will live to be a very great age because you will need to! Even in this small island it would take several years to accomplish even without having to arrange appointments to visit! Not to mention new ones opening all the time.

I've thought of this and it's on my list of things to do, but I don't know what breweries I would hit up exactly.

Allagash, Vermont, Captain Lawrence, FFF, Founders, Jolly Pumpkin, New Glarus?, Surly?, Hair of the Dog, Russian River, The Bruery, Firestone Walker, Alpine, and Stone are the ones that I have in mind so far, but that leaves out the entire southern half of US for when I swing back to the Northeast (home).

I would primarily want to go to places that have decent tap rooms or where they often have cool brewery-only releases like Alpine often has Exponential on tap.

I hit 21 breweries while moving from the West Coast to the East Coast. It was a lot of fun. The logistics of hitting a lot of breweries, and driving mass quantities was a challenge. I basically got early starts each day and then planned the route so I'd end up staying near breweries at the end of each day.

Lot of problems with doing this - especially all of the people you have to deal with on the highways in between each one. It's tough to hit all of the breweries in a decent beer metro within one week, so doing "all" great breweries in the U.S. is pretty much impossible in one month.

Why not do a regional trip or just hit one great beer city for an extended stay?

I forgot Cascade. I plotted out a trip. There's a couple big stretches (between Vermont and Michigan and between Minnesota and Oregon), but besides that, every leg can be done in one day. I threw in Mount Rushmore to make the distance from Minnesota to Oregon a little less, but it's still pretty bad. It would also be nice to stop at a brewery in west NY, west PA, or OH, so Canada can be avoided :grinning:

If you can get away long enough to do it!
    Good for you!

Like I said this was a idea, and I know this could never be done in a month... just a thought. Because in a reality this would be the ultimate get away as far as a BA vacation, besides Germany or Belgium. But if this ever becomes my reality you better bet I will be hitting everyone up for a joint venture..... actually beer venture

That's easy, six point or Brooklyn brewing in new York. Great lakes and fat heads in Ohio! LOL but as far as western pa the only things that come mind at church brewery or hofbrau house in Pittsburgh

Florida is out of the way, but it would be a shame to miss CCB, Peg's Cantina, and Funky Buddha

Florida is not out of the way.... a complete road trip... as in a circle... all around the US. It would be glorious!

I drove from Indiana to the west coast to go hiking this summer. I was more concerned with buying beer (bottel shops) than touring breweries but I did hit up Schlafly, Liquid Bread, Oskar Blues, Great Divide, and Mammoth along the way.

I suppose it could be done. You'd need about 6mos to a year off of work, suitcases full of money, and a designated driver. I don't know anyone who could swing that.

I would go where there are clusters of breweries, like Western Michigan, Indianapolis, North Carolina, etc.
