Shocking! While I’m sure it will be fun for those who attend, I imagine most who don’t want to make a weekend trip out it will find it not worth it.

I'm kind of curious about attending Darkness Day this year if I could get a general admission ticket. I have a buddy that drives up every year, and bottle sharing at a campground a couple days in a row, plus some hopefully rad metal and fun taps on Saturday sounds like a great time.

Don't really feel the need to cough up that much cash for bottles or variants, but I hope the Fernet variant is amazing.

Only options to attend are the 4 bottle package + camping or the 4 bottle + variants + camping.

    Not only.

There is also the Tier 3 option ($35 admission/campground site pass), coming soon. Just so everyone knows that they don't need to drop $100+ on tickets, to go drink some beer and enjoy some metal.

I was on the fence about attending this. Once I saw that the Murder City Devils were on the bill, I was sold.

Looks like they're going to announce some of the guest breweries each week until Darkness day. Here's the first batch:

    Half Acre, Chicago
    Mikerphone, Chicago
    Bent Paddle, Duluth
    Cigar City, Tampa
    Lupulin, Big Lake
    Odell, Fort Collins, CO
    Sixpoint, Brooklyn, NY
    Fair State, Minneapolis
    Oliphant, Somerset, WI
    Ale Asylum, Madison, WI

No surprise about Oliphant, since Darkness Day is happening in their back yard.

No surprise about any of them other than Mikerphone, they are all available retail in WI.

People see Cigar City and assume, "wow Huna will be available! at Darkess Day". More like, enjoy all the Jai Alai you want.

Didn't Cigar City pour Huna at All Pints North last year? I thought they jumped through some hoops to get a one-day distributorship to do it too.

Maybe you’re right, but I’d be pretty surprised if they showed up to an event like this wo some top shelf stuff. I definitely did not want to go before and am now somewhat debating it. Still think the tix selection sucks though.

Breweries tend to go all out at invitationals. Sought-after breweries that participate in the invitational circuit bring their best beers to each other’s events, but bring the most general stuff to standard beer fests. The expectation is a guest brewery brings top notch beer and the host brewery will do the same if that guest brewery ever hosts an invitational of their own. It’s a cycle of back-scratching that is killing attendance at generic fests. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cigar City brought something better than Huna since Surly pours at Hunahpu Day.

My only point of reference is the one Dark Lord Day I've been to, and the guest beers there were pretty incredible. I'm hoping this new version of Darkness Day is like that and I get to try some beers I've never had before.

I would rein in the doubting Thomas routine until you see the full list.

As anyone found any info on whether or not you can purchase variants without buying the variant package. I won’t be able to camp and really only want the rum barrel aged coconut variant.

I’m wondering the same thing. I’d be disappointed if I bought a $200 ticket and then saw all the variants on the shelf Nov 1st

According to the brewery, they'll only be available darkness day. Whether or not there will be on site sales of unsold variant bottles to the plebs (myself included), who can't justify dropping $200 worth of beer, remains to be seen.
