The problem is you used a glass. Also, did you remember to pour one out for your homies and smash it on the ground afterwards? This guys shows you proper glassware technique

I probably had this poured from a draft beer engine at Mr. Pickwick's here in Stowe, VT years and year ago. They had 3 engines right on top of the bar and most always one could find Old Speckled Hen, a Whitbread Ale, or a John Courage, or a Belhaven. This is not quite the same and I'm calling it a new to me beer.

Poured from 14.9 oz. "Draft Flow System" can.
    Followed directions on can:
"1. Chill for 3 hours. 2. Carefully open can. 3. Wait for the head to rise. 4. Pour into a glass. 5. Relax, savour and enjoy."
Well, I had the can in the fridge overnight.
Pour yields a huge head (3/4 of glass!) so I waited a few minutes for the widget's magic to do its thing resulting in a one inch eggshell white head over a clear brown body with some sticky lacing. Nose of malt, nuts, some hops, and a bit of spice. Taste mirrors nose perfectly with the nuttiness and maltiness in the forefront finishing with a bit of hop bitterness and slight spice. Nice feel which thins out a tad over time, but still better than good. Overall, a highly enjoyable experience and the best Scottish Ale I've had. Cheers!

Hey everyone! Glad to stop my big Sunday projects and relax with a new beer.

Poured to a diagonal cut, stemless tulip from a can stamped "best by 9/15/18". There is a bottled code before that but I am too lazy to decode it.
This us not your hazy juicy, actually quit clean looking (despite the fog on my glass due to the humidity). Mild head that fades to almost nothing.
The aroma is mild, maybe its my nose today, but slight hoppy fruit taste.
The hops are up front on this one, but not what I would call juicy. Some malt balance in the middle. Ends with good bitterness actually, nothing to complain about except the misleading name. Maybe some melon in there. Actually I have hard time with the stated 29 IBU also.
Its a nice beer. Something you can really down as its in a 12 oz. can and only 5.5% ABV (if you can believe anything on this can).

Seems like this beer is a bit sweet and overly fruity for the style...

    Seem borderline cider-y to me...

this one might be my last new beer for the day or maybe not?? Narrow Gauge DDH Sparkle Motion Pale Ale clocking in at 6% it is light and refreshing with nice flavors.

Appearance 4 - Pours dark murky yellow color with thick foamy white head that settles to a rocky cap. Strings of lacing around the glass.

Aroma 4 - Lots of lemon, hops, mango, lime zest and a light herbal aroma.

Taste 4.25 - Taste follows nose, lemon, tangerine, lime, grapefruit and orange zest. Very light mild flavors nothing really overpowers but nothing stands out either.

Feel 4 - Light bodied, soft easy drinking with a slightly dry finish.

Overall 4.1 - A well done pale ale, light flavors easy drinking light tropical flavors.

Pours deep amber, coppery coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smell is dominated by ginger and ginseng, with some light grainy malt also coming through.

Taste follows the nose, with the ginger/ginseng being most noticeable, but also a light sourness from the kimchi cultures, with a bready, grainy malt presence in the background. Finishes with a very light bitterness and some of that kimchi sourness lingering in the aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation.

This is certainly an odd one, but not exactly unusual by Freigeist's standards. Even though I thought that this was slightly better on tap, it still doesn't work quite as well as some of their other experimental beers. Not bad, mind you, certainly interesting, but it just doesn't have that oomph to really make it work. Nicely balanced, but perhaps a little bland.

    Anchor California lager
    ...clear amber color
..medium body as well as medium carbonation
..aroma is malt, grain, toasted cereal, mild aroma of yeasty bread
..taste is very similar to aroma. It seems to be an equal contest between the cereal and malt as to what hits you first.
..overall there isn't anything to complain about. This works as post yardwork, good with food,or would also work for non craft friends and family[IMG]image uploader

Good afternoon, NBS participants and lurkers! My afternoon beer is one from the area my co-host has just left. I believe @lordofthewiens checked in yesterday or the day before from the heartland or thereabouts - we'll see if he checks into our thread sometime today (if not as I'm typing this up).

Anyhow, today's beer is from Allagash, and it's an offering that is in search of a style, I think. It's listed as a wild ale here, but lager and champagne yeast are mentioned - unless champagne yeast is considered a "wild" thing to ferment beer with, I'm not sure that's a good fit. I'm not sure what style to put in a request for change, so Two Lights will sit with that style for now.

The beer's ingredients include 2-row with oat; amarillo, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin, and Northern Brewer hops; the aforementioned yeasts and Sauvignon Blanc must. I have had a few Dogfish Head beers that feature grape must, including their fairly new release Mixed Media. I am expecting this to be a little lighter and more refreshing than the DFH offering, given the brewery's description. Let's find out.

A straw body forms as the contents of the bottle splash into the glass. There is an initial heavy haze that manages to transform into a much lighter version of itself. Objects are visible through the beer before too long. A nice white lid sits nicely atop the beer - sustained by an etched glass.

Nose has a light wine-like side to it. The grain has a little say, but grape, lemon zest, a fruity yeast note (as it warms, the lager notes come out a little more distinctly), and light hay scents really define the aromas to me. Taste is a little sweeter than I expected, and the fruity aspects the brewery told me to expect come through. Mainly the pear - that is what the sweet note at the beginning evokes in me - a juicy sweet pear. There's a lightly herbal bitterness that puts up a little resistance to the sweetness. The light and soft body is a nice touch after a little blast of carbonation up front. The beer dries up throughout the sip - turning the flavor into more of an unsweet apple. A little hay and an even lighter peppery note accompany the beer as it exits my palate.

Definitely refreshing - but would be even more if it were a little drier throughout, in my opinion. It did have a lighter feel and less sticky sweetness than I recall from the DFH brew - but the beers had some similarities in their makeup. I think I like Two Lights a little better than Mixed Media due to its lighter, more refreshing nature.

    Firestone Walker's 21 Anniversary Ale.

Pours a very dark brown that nears black with a finger of khaki foam sitting atop. This pour comes from a 32oz growler filled 2 days ago, and sealed with the regular cap and electrical tape. It was stored in the fridge for the duration of the 2 days. All that to say, head formation may differ out of a properly stored bottle or straight from the keg. Head retention is good. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and chocolate right up front, giving it a welcoming and warming aroma. Roasted and toasted malts add some darkness to it, with bourbon and rum adding to the complexity. As a whole, the aroma is complex and dark, and inviting of a sip. A sip provides a smooth and creamy display of milk chocolate, caramel, and toffee. A hint of coffee in the back adds a dab of bitterness, with roasted and toasted malts further grounding the sweet opening notes, and establishing a good balance. Bourbon and the subtle burn of good rum round out the flavor profile into a complexity of dark, sweet, and lightly boozy. Mouth feel is creamy and smooth. It keeps this nearly 12% complex beer drinking smooth and surprisingly slippery. It has a medium thickness/viscosity which further aids in turning sips into gulps. Overall, a sublime ale with loads of quality notes crammed into each whiff and sip. Certainly not the darkest option from Firestone Walker, nor the most complex, but this one bodes well for those seeking a big hit of quality flavor without burying the tongue in excess.

Many thanks @cjgiant for 'setting the stage' today! My contribution today comes via gift from a colleague after recent travel to Baltimore for a conference. Peabody Heights Brewery collaboration with Healthy Harbor, Mr. Trash Wheel's Lost Python Ale, dated 07/03/18.

L: Pours slightly hazy light golden with almost 2 fingers of medium density frothy head with moderate retention and left mixed lacing.

S: Nose is heavy on citrus, orange peel and lemon zest, with some subtle floral undertones.

T: Follows the nose to a large degree, lacks dynamic taste as most Session IPAs tend towards. Finishes with some bitterness and moderate astringency, astringency lingers on the palate.

F: Low body with medium carbonation, subtle tongue tingling from the carbonation and astringency, slick on the swallow.

O: Its a fine beer for a hot afternoon (like today) but not one that is particularly memorable nor would I repeat.

    BA Score = 3.64, rdev = -2.4%

I said it'd be a sure bet I'd be back...
And here I am, with Pipeworks' Sure Bet DIPA, brewed with honey and mango puree...
Poured an orange-amber color, hazed to translucency, with a finger of creamy white head on top... Was braced for something super-sweet, but this is a fairly restrained beer in that regard - tropical fruits, like mango - come through on the nose and sip, but have a very green character to them - making me think not or sweet, ripe, mango flesh, but rather, the green skin of an unripe fruit... The honey is subdued, too, and there is more of a bitter tang to the beer than I expected, with a little soft honey sweetness rounding off the edges... Medium body has a tautness to it, which I appreciate, but I thought this would be a sweeter, fuller-bodied beer... Had to adjust my expectations as I drank it... I'll have to see if my impression changes with the second half of the bomber, but for my tastes this was really nice - reminds me a bit of a more rugged, more bitter version of a Southern Tier DIPA I had the past coupla days, Help! On The Way!, which also featured mango...

Pours a deep golden coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smells of light doughy malt with hoppy notes of citrus and lighter tropical fruit: grapefruit and papaya.

Taste is a nice balance of doughy malt, citrus/tropical fruit (grapefruit/papaya) and herbal/spicy estery notes, with a lightly dank grassiness as well. Finishes with a light bitterness and soft tartness coming through in the aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation.

This is a nicely balanced Belgian IPA brewed with Saison yeast, which really shows. I'm not sure how much of a fan of the style I am, but I reckon this is a pretty good example of it.
