There are plenty of misers out there that won't spend more than a couple bucks, or $10 on a 4 pack, but there are lots of us that are willing to spend more.

I'm comfortable paying the price for BCBS in its' current format, even if it's not as cheap as it was in 4 packs. I can remember prior to getting into craft beer that a $4 beer was a lot, and $11 was crazy! (Jackie Os in particular made me think this back then.) Now, I don't wince at $1/oz bottles (looking at you, Prairie), I just have to decide if I want to spend it. $30 bombers is where I draw my limit (but that's not the point here).

I can recall when I stopped really looking at the price - it was when I transitioned from mostly German styles (with $4-7 11%ers) and started drinking stouts. I stopped considering whether I would pay the price, and only how much I could buy/what I could afford.

When did you stop caring so much?

I suppose I fit within the miser category?:flushed:

I still look at the price I am paying and I personally refuse to pay the higher prices that some breweries are charging these days (e.g., high teens/low-mid twenties per 4-pack for the Haze Bros beers).

Thankfully there are still lots of high quality beers available at non-ridiculous prices.

    Cheers!

P.S. I wonder if Sam Calagione will be posting in this thread?

Haven't stopped looking at price and I doubt I ever will ... and while I will splurge on something that I want that is pricey, from a brewer I trust, I actually find that I have less tolerance for the high prices these days.

I will ALWAYS look at the price. To do otherwise suggests that there is no bottom line & since I am a man of means by no means, there has to be an upper limit.

What? Money is money. I will always care about how much I spend on something I don't need.

For those wondering - I'm definitely the champagne on a beer budget guy. I saved and saved until I could get the Hard shell jacket I wanted. It was $650, but It's lasted me 4 years already, and will last me another 6 I'm sure. It fits everyone of my needs, and I'd rather have that 1 for 10 years than 1 every year.

In beer, I'm the guy that would rather drink 1 $12 beer that I really enjoy over a larger quantity of beers that are overall cheaper, that I enjoy less.

I won't buy a steak at the supermarket just because it's cheap - I buy the steak that I want, and won't if I can't afford it, but I don't compromise much.

Also, I guess people are reading this differently than I intended. I still look at the price to know if I can afford it, but I no longer get sticker shock and shy away. There was a time when I strongly rejected a $4 beer, and now I don't bat my eyelashes twice at a $4 beer.

So, I was really wondering when people started being willing to pay a premium, and stopped caring so much about the price. Maybe that's the same to everyone, or maybe I suck at communicating =D.

    A 12oz Prairie BOMB! Is ~$13 here.
Hopping frog's products can go up to roughly $25. (bigger bottles though)

I once bought Prairie BOMB! and knew where my money went, its delicious but I still look at price.

OTOH I have my local ''go-to'' beer for 4€ a sixer.

When I ran across a 4 pack of KBS for $22 and change I called BS and walked away. There are many really great beers that are expensive without being straight up greedy.

LOL I had one in hand (Prairie Bomb) yesterday and they wanted $11, my cheap side put it back. I though hum, I can get a 4 pack of day old beer at the brewery down the way for $14.
    Cheers

I'm in the boat with these fellas. Price matters. It is not my first consideration, but it's close. Super premium priced beer, with very occasional exceptions, is going to stay on the shelf. Too much great, reasonably beer out there to pay more. Also, people who say they don't care how much beer costs are frontin' something fierce.

I think I get your general point OP and man...the price complaint threads on BA are some of my least favorite to read...right up there with "what's the difference between a hazy and a NE IPA."

But yes, I certainly do take a look at the price, but if I really want to try something and pay the premium I will, unless something seems like it is who-do-think-you-are-pricing. An example for me would be quite a few of Cascade's sours. It's not that the beers aren't good, or the precise dollar amount they cost, its just not good enough to justify the spend (for me).

IMO, anyone who drinks craft beer is not a “miser”. They’ve already decided to upgrade vs what most undoubtedly drank in the past.

If my wife is with me I look, if she is not I don't.

I don't care much about the price if it is something I want to buy at a brewery. I did start buying less volume at once though. Not due to the price, but more because I end up with too much in my fridge or cellar.

OP has no problems with a brewery vastly increasing the price of a beer....because, he's like not a miser.

I'm proud to be a miser if being a miser means I am not willing to accept something that is intended to line the pocket of investors, while clearly squeezing the consumer
