There are places that actually label beers with a price? That would be great...

When I purchased CBS last year, there was no price on the bottle. After I purchased it, I realized the price and although it was good, I promised I'd never spend that for that beer again.

Price is always important, even more now so. I have cut back some on splurges, those over $20 bombers or $18 4 packs, etc...I do still get them when I can, but I try to avoid them sometimes as well.
The (good?) problem is that locally in the upstate of SC, a few new breweries have come onboard with some high quality stuff, and others are improving their game! Help! LOL...

If you're a regular trader, looking at price means nothing. The time and money you spend finding trade bait and shipping it makes the whole cost so absurd that worrying about a couple of bucks on the beer itself is futile.

The idea of buying a beer (or anything for that matter) and finding out the price afterward seems backwards.

I am conscious about the price but it if it is a one-off of something I want to try, I might let it slide. Depends on what other bills I have to pay that week. I am amazed when I see people post pictures in the "your latest haul" thread of beer on top of beer on top of beer. It must have cost $150-$200 to buy all of those. I just can't do it.

Never. On Saturday I picked up a 4-pack of a hot new local IPA. Realized it was a 4 pack of 12oz cans and they wanted $15 for it. Put it back and got something else.

I absolutely refuse to pay TG's absurd prices for their bombers. I won't buy any IPA that's packaged as a an expensive bomber because the market is flooded with IPAs that are reasonably priced in 6 packs.

There's also no way in hell I'm spending $25 on a bottle of CBS again.

Price is always a consideration. I've had to bite the bullet now and then if it was something I really wanted, but I find that happening much less frequently than it used to.

That said, if I ever see any 2-ounce pours of Utopias being offered around here, all bets are off.

Depends on the style I suppose, with the beers I tend to gravitate to my first look is at the date. No date no buy, and from there it goes to specifics and price. Price being the least significant factor, not that it's insignifant , but not the top priority. If I want hoppy and reasonably cheap why look past snpa for what it is? But we do.

    I remember it exactly.
There was a bottle of BA Old Rasputin I initially passed because of the price. I went back the next day and bought 2. I have never flinched at price again.

Beer is a luxury item and I am lucky to have enough disposable income that it isn't an issue

Many moons ago I spent a lot on beer. Nothing was insane I just had to buy cases then so I tried lots of $60-80 cases every week I bought them. Mix a six a few times a week, growlers and on and on.

I first stopped buying growlers when I realized the same beer in a six pack was less. I then looked at cost per oz.

My big revelation came at some point a few years back that all these expensive beers were really no better than much lower priced beers. Sure, FBS is great but at around $70 a case I'm out. I can still enjoy less good coffee beers.

I stopped going to bars as well. It drove/still drives me nuts to drop $6-7 a pint when I can buy the same beer for $10 a six. Get the atmosphere but I'm past that in my life. Rather hang with friends.

I am the $1 a beer guy. I can still do it . I buy many sale beers and have found things that are real good as well as just ok. I enjoy Hamms and High Life. Mix in a case of Hamms and a sale case of neshaminy creek, ballast point, yards, victory , otter creek or whatever the deal of the week is and it's not hard to walk out with 54 beers for $42-44.

I don't miss the old days of spending insane amounts of cash. I enjoy the big variety I now get at a good price.

To answer your question. I always look at $. I stopped for around 6 years but came back to reality and now look very hard.

If I only drank a six pack a week price would be less important but I drink 2-3 beers a night on average.

    Enjoy

Lol... Miser comment. I’m generally unwilling to pay much more than $14 per four pack or so. I drink a few beers every day, I’ve got a wife, car payments mortgage... It’s not being cheap, it’s being responsible. On occasion, I’ll splurge, but price should be a consideration unless craft beer has become a rich man’s game. Not to mention, there is a point of diminishing returns. If you don’t get double the enjoyment out of certain beers, why spend double the amount to get them?

It's been said, but I'm more of a value guy than a price guy. I'm not rich by any means, but I'll spend what some would consider a lot of money for beers that I perceive (rightly or wrongly) to be a reasonable value. I have my limits, though, which are generally over $25 for a single unit (large format, 4-pack, 6-pack) of anything, Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, and Tilquin notwithstanding, plus a few other exceptions.

As an example, I saw Evil Twin Harlan's Even More Jesus for $40/22oz. bottle. It required some thought since it's rated highly here, I love the base beer, and I love wine barrel stouts, but I ultimately decided that $40 was insane and exhorbitant, and I happily walked away.

When did I stop looking at price? There was a time when I would buy any new/fresh beer and not look at the price.

Now that I drank most of the beer on the shelf price is a big factor. When I first started drinking I could walk out the distributor with a nice case of beer for $40/$45.. nowadays that is like two 4 packs. Anyway I still splurge on some stuff but most of the beer I buy is judged on the cost/quality/freshness scale and I'm not impressed with a lot of the more expensive stuff I have drank recently.

My level of trust for the quality of beer a brewery puts out directly impacts how much I pay attention/care about how much I am spending.

My thoughts exactly. I like trying as many different beers as I can, but I will not overpay for one.

If there's a limited time release that I really want to try I might treat myself, but that's not a daily or even weekly occurrence.

I set a weekly budget for beer and buy what I feel like within that amount. Seems to work. Splurge when out of town /beercation but then that is out of vacation funds I've saved for. Entertainment costs.
