I see zwanze day in Seattle this year will be at the masonry in Fremont, which is really awesome. Anyone have any idea if they'll do tickets or open to everyone shit show?
I miss the "open to everyone shit show" at Brouwer's. Never did the last two at Slow Boat because I don't like the way they do ticketing. Can't please everyone I've only been to The Masonry once, and my impression was it's way too small to host events but somehow they put on Farmhouse Fest so I'm hoping it will be smooth.
Masonry Fremont is pretty big with the outside and back areas. I enjoyed it and slow boat but this should be quite a bit more space.
not sure about tickets/format but in my opinion Masonry seems to have overpriced drinks and bad service so I will most likely be not attending Zwanze this year
Cantillon pricing at their Shelton takeover wasn't too shabby. Hoping they just open up as normal. Other locations really like to bloat the ticket price by packaging a bunch of glassware, food, and other junk I don't want. Expensive ticketing seems to run contrary to the origins of the event.
Kids are allowed at the new spot too right? I've been there many times now, but never observed children there...Not trying to bring my daughter to Zwanze Day or anything, just asking in general.
Given the Oregon location for the past few years and what I can tell from the Zwanze list nationwide, I'm shocked they aren't having it at Holy Mountain. Does the Masonry move a lot of Shelton product?
Yes they do. They almost get the entire WA allocation of Fantome bottles. Also, Holy Mountain’s Taproom is way too small.
Holy Mountain can't legally do it as they don't have a tavern license from what I understand. A brewery license only allows for up to 25% guest taps, they have 12 taps so they couldn't do the whole 5 Cantillon drafts there typically are for the event. I think the space is plenty big enough for it, just can't legally do it. Slow Boat is probably smaller and there was plenty of room last year.
We were approached to host Zwanze on a couple of occasions, but @MorningDew72 is correct that we don't have the proper licenses in place. We're working on a few exciting things, so that may be a different scenario in the future. Slowboat has done a hell of a job and is one of the best beer bars or bars for that matter in the city. Masonry will do a fantastic job I'm sure.
This was fun. Had Nath, Kriek, Rose de Gambrinus, Classic Gueuze, and Grand Cru Broucsella. Rest of the tap list had way too much for a single liver, including 3F Armand & Gaston, Tilquin Gueuze, several from Ale Apothecary including Blackberry Vamanos (yum!), Floodland Pinot Noir and Meditation on Light, Monkish Triple IPA, Jester King, etc., etc., etc. They sold tickets ahead of time that guaranteed you a pour of Zwanze and a glass to keep, but the event was open to the public. Had a separate line to let ticketed people in first to get tables, which was nice. I got there at 10 and the ticketed line was 2 people long and the non-ticketed line was zero. By comparison, when Brouwer's hosted a few years back I arrived at 8:30 and was around the corner.
Yeah, there weren't many people at all in the non-ticketed line, at opening, and everyone got in easy. I ended up waiting in line at the bar for an extra 45 mins though because of the onslaught of orders. I was mainly interested in the Suarez dark mild and Resurgam which didnt even seem in high demand - A&G was already gone. I wondered if I could've shown up later. The beer list was exceptional
