Hi everyone! I searched and didn't see any mention of this. Is anyone a member and if so, what do they think? I got accepted to the lottery and was curious about others experiences. Thank you and have a good day!

I have heard numerous people are not happy/satisfied with it.

Also the price increase is absurd. They'll be putting out $40+ bottles soon.

I'm not a fan because their co-owner is a fan of his beer being resold on the secondary market and they used to operate a very unsanitary brewhouse. I heard up until recently they didn't even have sanitizer bottles or clean their hoses.

Thank you for this feedback. Very helpful. I will say my one visit there in February wasn't the greatest. Bartenders were nice but were extremely rude when I mentioned if bottles were available. It was extremely weird experience.

Bummer to hear both thoughts, I had planned on stopping by next week but am having second thoughts. Might just stick to my regular spots when I visit.

In July, saw a selfie of one of Black Project's production people in the ER after suffering injuries from using plastic kegs, which exploded during transportation.

Also in July the Brew on Broadway had a plastic keg explode in their SUV and totaled the vehicle.

Not sure why anyone still uses plastic kegs after a brewery employee was killed in 2012.....

It's my understanding that last year's still have two member bottles that haven't been announced, let alone delivered, and their membership just expired.

I love the beer I have had and have no personal experience with the membership.

Oh, the challenge coins are dumb :grinning:

The beer is great! I will fully say that. Catsabath was BOMB.

However, how they choose to portray themselves through marketing and social media in my opinion is contrived and egotistical. They love to love themselves there and I'm just not into that with anyone or any business, beer included. The brewery they were prior, Former Future, was not well regarded either prior to them closing the doors in favor of Black Project.

They have done things like partner with Shelton, and then have a limited release in CO to only then have the bottles show up on either CraftBeerKings or CraftShack for sale for less than it cost in CO.

I saw this too as we have many mutual friends and I was shocked they were doing things like that. In this day and age I'd think they'd have the money to pay for cooperage with their hype lines and their Shelton Bros relationship.

I’m totally with you. I don’t care how great the beer is, if I don’t agree with how they portray themselves or conduct business then I won’t support them. There’s too many other great bars/breweries in Denver for me to support a breweries ethics and practices I don’t agree with. I’ll happily order an extra pint at one of the other fine establishments I’ll be at and will be just as happy. IMOF, I appreciate this thread because I’ll now be more happy knowing I didn’t support them.

It would have sucked to have gone there, even if I did enjoy the beers, and then find out about all of this knowing I gave them my money.

Didn't Comrade use plastic kegs a few years ago? I could swear I've had a plastic keg of superpower in my keezer.

I've never had any Black Project beers but I went a couple months ago to pick up a bottle from someone and couldn't get over the old beer smell in that place. I don't see how people were drinking in there. I walked in expecting to have a couple beers and left hoping not to vomit.

Those were one way shells, non-reusable and could not ever be pressurized again after tapping.

The solid black plastic reusable shells were from Plastic Kegs of America and they went out of business years ago after numerous lawsuits that arose from injury or death.

The beer is great. I have had maybe 2 total out of 20+ I've tried that I'd say weren't exceeding my expectations

Don't let my words deter you. I just have heard enough rumblings it is worth sharing.

That's completely inaccurate. All bottles were delivered. And even if they weren't, your statement is constructed in a way to imply that people short bottles wouldn't get them.

Most people that are members, are happy with the membership. The division bottles were all excellent this year. And you don't have to enter the lotteries and "hope" to win for the opportunity to get bottles either. I just went to the member party a couple weeks ago.

Among other things, they had a sit-down session with member before to party to get feedback on how people were liking the membership and potential areas of improvement. They talked about the recent price increases and there was a little pushback there. The party was awesome and free. I think I tried 12 different cellar bottles and they had more than enough food for everyone to stuff themselves.

I quit the membership after 2017 as I was not happy with it in general... I never loved the beers, didn't care for several of the people working there, and everything about the place overall.

It seems to be a very polarizing place for some reason.

I know numerous people who quit the membership this year and were not happy with how it was run last year and got into several arguments with the owners and employees of BP on their facebook page.

I also know numerous people who love BP, love the beers, love the people there and everything they do.

    That's my two cents

Do you know how many people have also left? I heard it was over 15%. So current members may be happy, but that doesn't account for people who have left.

The word is that there are still two bottles left from the year prior membership that have not been released yet because they are not ready. You are saying that is incorrect? I'm not a member.

I am not trying to imply anything, I also don't believe anyone will be shorted.

Two of the member bottles for this past year's membership have not been released yet, and members do not know what they are yet. That's accurate.

For what it's worth — I've found it to be perhaps THE most overrated brewery in Denver. Are their beers good? A few years ago they were among the best, now, I don't personally think so since there's great beer to be had via a lot of different breweries.

Also, within the brewery community I've heard terrible stories about how they treat their staff. Stopped going after hearing this multiple times, from numerous different sources.

As also mentioned — no one loves Black Project as much as Black Project.

There's something about BP's house character/culture/whatever yeast is in there that just doesn't jive with me. It isn't in everything, but I've encountered it in plenty of different beers. It isn't "funky" in a lambic sense, but it's almost like a rotten note. I can't handle it. Clearly other people can, so good for them.
