OK guys I need some help. My wife has just surprised me with a trip to Danbury, CT / Hudson, NY on Labor Day weekend (the night of the 31st in Danbury, and Saturday and Sunday the 1st & 2nd). This is not a surprise romantic trip or anything, just a surprise as I wasn't expecting it.

Normally I would do my own research, and I've done some, but I'm at a loss for time here so I'm tossing the ball to you.

I already have Suarez Family Brewery and Plan Bee on my list so please don't include them. And I've already been to Crossroads and Keegan's.

The first night in Danbury, CT I should arrive around 5 - 6 pm so a dinner will be needed. Any suggestions for beer stores are also appreciated but I won't be traveling far. I should also note, I don't necessarily need a brewery, and I do like to check out funky, low-down bars as well as fancy stuff.

Saturday I'll arrive in Hudson and have lunch at a place of my wife's choosing so no suggestions needed unless there's something open earlier nearby. Again, a suggestion for a place to pick up single bottles would be great. From there we'll meander back down to Danbury, CT with dinner on the way - that would be a very helpful suggestion as I'm lost on that one, but again, it doesn't have to be fancy at all.

Sunday I won't be going as far north, and I'll probably want to head back home to Philly starting by 4 pm. Thoughts for the way back are welcome as well but I do get up to Hoboken, NJ fairly often so that should probably be a good cut-off point.

Much appreciation for your thoughts amigos!

There's some upstate folks that'll do these questions justice, but in the meantime....def hit Sloop if you're hitting Suarez.

If you're looking for bottles I would recommend finding whatever DeCicco's is closest to you. It looks like there is one in Brewster that might not be too far out of your way. I've only been to the one in Armonk but it's top notch and it has a bar upstairs so you can have a couple of brews before/after you browse for bottles. Hopefully someone's BAs who have been there can chime in.

While in Danbury you might only be a 45 minute drive away from NEBCO. A great Saturday nightcap!

+1 to Decicco's. They're all pretty good and have a ton of great bottle and growler options. I personally favor the Ardsley spot. It's easy to swing in on your way up or down.

If you want to take your time going home, cross the Hudson at Newburgh and hit up Equilibrium (and potentially Rushing Duck) on the way back. There's also a DeCicco west of Hudson in New City.

Hudson is waay far from New City. Were you thinking of Croton-on-Hudson?

I just meant cross the Hudson River I think. I could've been more clear by emphasizing the river part of that.

Gotcha. Well, New City still a bit far by my thinking but if there might as well hit District 96 and Cable Beverages and Industrial Arts.

The DeCicco's with the good craft beer selection are DeCicco's and Sons and they're all in Westchester. The Decicco's in New City is a DeCicco's family market which is a different chain. Like Onovomexicano said, Cable down the road is a better stop for take away beer.

Wow! DAnbury, CT. That's the one place I've always wanted to go. You, my friend, are a lucky man.

OEC is a half hour away and a very worthwhile visit, so there is that.

Going further into CT and away from all the other stops but absolutely worth it, one of the coolest and most unique breweries I've ever visited, always lots of weird ass beer to drink and to go. And great bread and other snacks!

DeCicco in Brewster is in the shopping plaza literally across the street ( Rt 312) from the I-84 exit 65 ramp, so that would be easiest on/off beer shopping. Avoid Westchester the traffic sucks, and Brewster is the last town before Danbury so it's super close.

Suarez for the afternoon and Dan’s brother’s restaurant, Gaskins, for dinner. Food is next level, vibe in that little “hamlet” is amazing. Time seems to slow down there. Honestly my favorite beer centric stop maybe ever. I could play cards on the deck of the Central House Hotel while sipping Palantine pretty much all day every day.

For a shop DiCicco in Brewster, right off of 84.

If considering OEC, then I'd second it. I'm in Southbury for work often and try to hit it up when I can. I also stop at a shop in Southbury, Lake Wine and Sprites to get some CT and NE stuff not in NY. Not a large selection, but if timing is right they get some good stuff in.

In Hudson is The Beer Store III. While little to no information is available online he does stock some of the best to go selection in that area. Lots from nyc breweries and even some semi hard to find Westbrooks and stuff hanging around. The only downside could be freshness, so just pay attention to that if it matters to you. It isn’t far off of the main drag of warren street and even if you don’t find anything you want it wouldn’t waste much time.

I know you said her choice for food, but I’ll still suggest a quick stop into Governors Tavern. It could be pre-meal beers/drinks even if you don’t get food there. They have some surprisingly good beers on draft. When I was there a few weeks ago they had some Grimm that had just been released, Root and Branch, and I had just missed some Hill Farmstead. It’s the best bar for craft beer in Hudson.

Also, olde york distillery in Claverack just outside of Hudson is a hidden gem. A great draft list and some amazing cocktails from local spirits.

Other than that, have fun! Sloop and Suarez are my favorites!

Sorry, I have no idea why i was being so snotty. I'm going to blame the bourbon aged stout that i was either drinking or should have been drinking.

Bacchus in New Paltz is back to making and serving great beer. Both original brewers left to open Hudson Valley Brewery two years ago, but the new guy at Bacchus is dong excellent, and again Bacchus is under the radar and is again our local secret. Arrowood Farms brewery tasting room is a half block East from there, and Schatzi's New Paltz location is a half block west. Arrowood is good, nothing crazy, beer, and Schatzi's Pub has excellent food and very good tap list. K&E is bottle shop in town, and it has a reliable, if not huge, selection of beer, including the best and freshest Industrial Arts selection anywhere around area. New Paltz is exactly 40 minutes from Suarez, across the river from Poughkeepsie.

I'll have to let Chris DeCicco know next time I see him, pretty sure he'll be interested in this.
